Hi!

 

I recently started working, so I opened a savings account so I can finally do my trip around Europe, do not know when, but i am hoping for a month-long trip. Given that a lot of the people in the forum are from there and around, I would like to ask you about ideas on what to do, see, touch, eat, photograph, etc and where :)

 

Right now, I have a pretty general list of countries to visit like spain, france, the UK, belgium, germany, switzerland, italy and greece.

 

I am trying to come up with a budget, so i need ideas!!! Any help will be greatly appreciated :)

One month for 8 countries is quite a stretch but I'd go for an Interrail pass so you won't have to spend loads on money on trains if that's your thing. If you're thinking of travelling around Europe by plane, check out Easyjet, Wizzair and Ryanair. They are cheap-ish.

I want to spent a fair amount of time sort of in each place, but probably will not be able to afford longer than that. Iam trying to make it happen on august of next year so that gives me some time to save more money :)

I don't live in Europe so I cannot help you much unfortunately, but I can tell you for just touring one country in a month this summer that your energy will be completely drained and you won't have enough time to truly observe and appreciate each sight if you're popping in and out so fast, so keep that in might when planning. Vacations are meant for leisure!

 

Why don't you give Wikitravel a try, for ideas on where to go? Very detailed and helpful resource.

 

Also, I know of guided tours where you travel in groups country to country along Europe, with discounts on museums and hotel rooms and all that stuff. Exactly the type of deal you're speaking of. Though I can't say about how they're like, just something to look into. They're pretty inexpensive.

I wouldn't go in August because that's when it's the warmest, September would be better and the weather is still nice (except from some rain once in a while) and travelling/accommodation is cheaper in September. Pick 4 countries max that you really want to visit, 8 isn't doable in a month (travelling between places takes up quite a lot of time).

Makes sense! I was looking into spending a couple of days in each country, leaving a day of traveling in between, but I guess I can go back at some other point :awesome:

 

I do not think I would like to travel with a tourist group, even though i would have more info, they only take you to the touristy places, and I want to be able to decide where to go when, most of the times I have seen them aound here, they ignore some places that are really cool because they only take you to where they have been going for years.

Jaja! I was asking a friend that lives in Belgium about the best time to travel and he said that august is when it starts getting cooler. I do not mind the heat, i live in the tropics lol. And it is less clothes to pack. But given that accomodation is cheaper, september it will be. My family owns a time share club thing, so I think I can get affordable lodging from there :awesome:

By bus, check Eurolines and Megabus.

I can recommend Palmers Lodge for when you're staying in London, it's a really nice hostel.

Come in September, prices are generally lower (no kids holiday premium), it is still warm and the weather normally is good.

 

Travelling eats up a lot of time

Your welcome to Germany any time. I would definitely recommending coming here. Visiting a few cities (Berlin, Cologne, Munich) is worth a trip i guess.

Especially Berlin has a lot to offer. A LOT of history and about the same amount of cool things to and see besides that.

Might not be the cheapest (unless you book in advance) but probably the Eurostar is the quickest

Berlin isnt that expensive. At least the hotels aren't. As long as you are near a subway station you are in the heart of the city in half an hour or so.

Public transport is very good and also not that expensive.

There are special tickets for tourists and weekends etc...

 

When are u planning to come over here? Next summer or 2015?

 

(btw, traveling through germany by train is also not that expensive if you know what tickets to buy.)

It depends on where you wanna go. Train tickets can be quite cheap if you book in advance. Coaches are much cheaper but they mightn't be ideal if you don't have much time.

 

Where are you planning to go? I wouldn't just go to London, there are much nicer places in the UK.
