Do you Adjust and Customize your Albums to your liking? Or am I a criminal :)

Hey Coldplayers!

As far as Itunes goes, I am an organizational freak! I always want everything in order, and I always want things to be in their place. This ESPECIALLY goes for coldplay, because they are by far the greatest band, and every one of their albums is so theatrical and cinematic. They all tell a story and they all are so different thematically.

SO, I actually have adjusted my albums exactly to my liking, I have removed songs and thrown them on to B-sides, I have added different songs and B-sides to albums, split up double (secret) songs into 2 tracks on itunes, and re-ordered the entirety of Prospekt's March. lol. I have also changed album covers for MX and Viva, and if you want specifics on all this stuff, I will post my full lists below?

But the main point im making, is: Are you guys at all similar? Or am I just strait up wrong for doing this... :) Go ahead and take a look below:

--------------------------------------------------------

Parachutes: Everything is the same except for the B-side "See You Soon" Finishes off the album, after Life is for Living does normally. I love that track and it made most sense to have it apart of the album at the ending. Also, the album cover has the words COLDPLAY - PARACHUTES removed from the top, its the only album to have the title written on it... Didnt feel right.

A Rush of Blood to the Head: Most everything is again in order, Except in between Daylight and Green Eyes, is the FANTASTIC song Animals. Everything else is in tact here.

X&Y: Most things again are here, as the first 3 albums werent really touched, Except in between A Message and Low, is the amazing song Gravity. And Till Kingdom Come has been separated from Twisted Logic.

Viva La Vida: or Death & All His Friends: Now, this has probably had the most work done to it. Not because anything was really wrong with it, but probably because subconsciously its my favorite. :)

Now the first thing I have done is the titles. To me, or Death & All His Friends is ACT I, and Prospekt's March, is ACT II. To keep things aligned and looking together, the albums are called

Viva La Vida: or Death & All His Friends

&

Viva La Vida: on Prospekt's March

This made the most sense name wise, but, the problem is, Alphabetically or comes after on, so I have OD&AHF listed as 2007 and OPM listed as 2008 so that Itunes will place Prospekts march after in album view.

Next the Album artwork was changed, If you look at all of the Coldplay albums, they all are a fairly solid color, with an object or thing in the middle. No words on them (minus parachutes which I removed). But the 2 Viva albums are the only thing to break this trend. So I made some custom artwork for both of the albums.

or Death & All His Friends: http://i.imgur.com/GEoTInh.jpg

on Prospekt's March: http://i.imgur.com/tfgCXvS.jpg

This keeps the trend and keeps all the albums in lined telling a story.

Other than that, or Death & All His Friends hasnt been touched, minus the fact that I have separated all of the secret tracks. So Lovers In Japan with Reign All The Love, Yes with Chinese Sleep Chant, and Death & All His Friends with The Escapist.

Viva La Vida: on Prospekt's March: Ok, now I basically removed all of the bonus track, music video, alternate version junk from here. So the only thing left is the original songs from Prospekt's March. I also removed Rainy Day because it didnt fit to me, and I have added in 2 instrumentals from the ERA that I think lend themselves well to finish off the Viva narrative. It's easier if I just list the tracklist below:

1. Life In Technicolor II

2. Now My Feet Won't Touch The Ground

3. Famous Old Painters

4. Glass of Water

5. Lukas

6. Prospekt's March

7. Postcards From Far Away

Life in Technicolor II is at the beginning, because Life In Technicolor I comes after a small section of The Escapist, and so it makes sense that Life In Technicolor II, the Full Song, comes after the Full Escapist at the end of or Death & All His Friends. And I put Now My Feet Won't Touch the Ground right after that, because I think lyrically it greatly accompanies the song just as Reign all the Love Accompanies Lovers in Japan. And then I think Postcards from far away is a fantastic and beautiful way to end the entire thing. Subtle, yet beautiful.

Mylo Xyloto: Here, pretty much everything is the same, except I have added the fantastic Moving to Mars to the album in between Major Minus and U.F.O. And if you haven't guessed already, im using the alternate Itunes cover, that just has the MX with the grey background, to once again keep album cover continuity.

Ghost Stories: Here is pretty simple, I've added the 3 target tracks (as I got the target album and they definitely go well will the album) as well as Atlas, because it also fits. I feel like coldplay didnt include Atlas because of licensing reasons... I feel like they would have if they could.

BUT, placing these 4 songs and tacking them on at the end is not right at all. O is exactly the way the album should end. In Fact, I think O (reprise) should actually start the album, its a beautiful intro piece that goes right into Always in my Head. For this reason I have renamed it to A, so the album begins with A and ends with O. If you would like more explaining as to why I chose A then I can later.. but that doesnt totally matter.

Other than that All your friends comes after midnight and before Anothers Arms, and Ghost Story comes after Anothers Arms and before Oceans. And Atlas comes after Magic and before Ink. And then the rest is the same.

So what do you guys think? Am I sick and wrong for doing this, or do you guys do something similar? Tell me what you think below!

See ya later!

Aw come on, not even the Artwork?

haha I think that you're just fine : )

I honestly don't care about order and artworks, though, just the music

one thing though:

I also removed Rainy Day because it didnt fit to me

I disapproves

Haha, I love Rainy Day, theres not a song that Coldplay has written that was bad. I just, Idunno, I just dont really think it fits into the same vein as the other stuff.

I didnt remove it, I just threw it on my B-Sides album, which Im sure is something most of you have.

haha oooh I understand now

I take the thumbsdown back

You're right, I think we all have that B-sides thing

To FlyboyTrevy, I've never heard of anyone doing what you do, it's interesting though, I like how you organized everything :)

Heheheh hi Facundo :D

You're not alone FlyboyTrevy, I've also separated all of the secret tracks (Everything's Not Lost/Life Is For Living, Fly On/O, etc.)

The only other changes I've made to the tracklists were putting Moving To Mars at the end of MX, after Up With The Birds (I find MTM is a better closing song), and I also added Death Will Never Conquer to Prospekt's March.

See Death Will Never Conquer was kind of a battle for me. I was back and forth deciding on whether that should be a part of Prospekt's March. But ultimately I decided it was one for the B-Side books. Its a very different song.

But COME ON. Up With The Birds is not only my favorite Coldplay song but Coldplay is my favorite band therefore its the greatest song EVER WRITTEN! :) How can you say MTM is a better closing song. Lol now thats criminal. The way Up With The Birds ends is bliss. Those final Piano chords were in some Apple product video, and I was HOOKED, previous to that I didnt really pay attention to that song, but after that, it was like, man! :)

Glad I'm not alone though. I think its better when everyone has their own personal take on how the story should be told.

I love Up With The Birds, I just needed to put Moving To Mars somewhere and I think the ending to MTM ends the album perfectly. I think it should've been included in the album.

I like the idea of the B-sides album though, I'd probably just put all the B-sides there but in chronological order.

Yup, what I have done exactly.

IDK, I guess ill give it a shot ending on Moving to mars, But having it come after Major Minus and UFO accompany it thereafter, just made sense to me.

  • 4 months later...

Oh and in case any of you wanted, here's the cover I use for my B-Sides album. (yes I know its the leftrightleftrightleft cover with the color changed and text added, but it worked for me)

Depends on the artist for me. Could never do that to a CP album, would be like killing one of my children.

Haha, great gif. :D

We have a Danish saying: exaggeration creates greater understanding. Though sometimes I feel it's quite the opposite. :P

I Just don't touch them (maybe for an Album Cover change), but these albums are something really awesome I don't like to mix them up or to do anything I just let iTunes arrange them..
