People people people, where's all the love in this world?

Yeah' date=' but it's a fucking lame one. Sexuality has nothing to do with this.[/quote']

gay ( P ) Pronunciation Key (g)

adj. gay·er, gay·est

1. Of, relating to, or having a sexual orientation to persons of the same sex.

2. Showing or characterized by cheerfulness and lighthearted excitement; merry.

3. Bright or lively, especially in color: a gay, sunny room.

4. Given to social pleasures.

5. Dissolute; licentious.

all these threads are gettin on my nerves

ditto

. Dissolute; licentious.

such big words richard

please

explain

Basically, they mean lacking moral fiber ... the usage your were evoking.

IOW, Twix didn't know what he was talking about.

Um..so? that doesn't mean because something is dumb, stupid etc, that it's gay. Sexuality plays no place in something being dumb, stupid, retarded, etc.

Twix: Eric obviously wasn't using the term in reference to Carla's sexuality; rather, he was refering to her conduct, a perfectly acceptable use of the word by it's textbook definition.

It's an honest mistake you made: most people forget about the alternative meanings in the light of the more publicized version.

But let it go.

looking at the context in which eric uses "gay" almost constantly, i don't think he means dissolute or licentious.

No, I won't let it go. I know people use "gay" as meaning usually dumb or stupid now. But gay is a sexuality, so it has nothing to do with being dumb or stupid.

In truth, I think he does but he doesn't know he does.

I don't think he's referring to sexuality (most of the time), but he's not refering to happiness either. Like most people who use the word in this way, they're evoking a valid usage without knowing it.

So really, Eric deserves a little criticize here, but not on the grounds Twix is using.

I think it's clear in this thread Eric is ont saying Carla is a homosexual, nor is he using that in a derrogatory manner. I think he's saying she's gay because her behavior on the board lacks ethics (something I don't necessarily agree with, but know others who would).

And I think Twix made an honest mistake.

yeah i do use it alot

but i mean that's all i hear around where i live

it sticks to you

what should i use instead of gay then?

Dumb, you dumbass. Or simply call them a dumbass. That's usually what I do to Carly.

No' date=' I won't let it go. I know people use "gay" as meaning usually dumb or stupid now. But gay is a sexuality, so it has nothing to do with being dumb or stupid.[/quote']

Contact Webster's. Make your point to them. If people choose to use 'gay' to indicate a lack of morality or standards (i.e., Carla posts in a gay manner) then they can.

So if you don't want to let it go, that's fine, but you don't have the moral or intellectual ground your trying to achieve.

Perhaps you can just say that you don't like the usage and try to move on rather than try to make Eric a bigot? To me, that's a much greater offense than using the word gay the way he did.

Are you so high that you can't allow for a valid usage? I know you're not and I know you won't think you are. That's why I would think you'd want to move on.

If you're trying to make a point: fucked-up, wact, weak, or shitty.

I guess it just depends on the context.

So you're trying to replace gayest above.

How about just lamest? Or weakest?

I don't know.
