LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
Oh yes, I agree. They don't need Jay-Z, they don't need Rihanna or Avicii, they just need to get a grip on themselves.

I vote for X&Y clothing and no curls, but A LOT of awkward dancing on stage and holding his arms in weird angles while singing...and the fairtrade sign and colourful tapes back on his hand ! Yeah ! :D EDIT: Like this http://nme.assets.ipccdn.co.uk/images/2005Coldplay_Getty53049468150115.jpg

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
I really wish they'd read this thread and do the hardcore fans, who mostly long for a style similar to earlier times a favor rather than the mainstream listeners for whom Coldplay is just the band that made Paradise and ASFOS and have these songs on their playlist next to their Justin Bieber and Kanye West and Taylor Swift stuff ! No seriously. ...are there any gifted musicians among us Coldplayers ? We could make our own album (a blend of Parachutes, X&Y, AROBTTH and VLVODAAHF) and release it as "A Head full of Coldplay" by "Oldplay" LOL

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
Thanks for mentioning the Toronto performance, I have to check it out then ! Yes, and I don't understand why Chris dislikes Speed of Sound so much, too. A Message, White Shadows, Low, Talk, Speed of Sound, Fix you, The Hardest part...oh, I shouldnt think about it, this makes me sad when I compare it to now.. :-(

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
My favourite album is AROBTTH (as an album), but as individual songs the X&Y songs are great ! I dunno why many people don't like this album, and why What If is such a underrated song. I just watched the Glastonbury 2005 performance yesterday - awesome ! They should've released a Live 2005 DVD as well...

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
I agree. I also always found it weird that whereas all the earlier songs convey such a range of emotions to the listener, the one album that explicitly wanted to do convey a feeling, namely the emotional state of coming to terms with a love that is gone (GS), imho failed to do so. Honestly, I think they are better at doing albums that are not concept albums. They don't need to define a subject for their album, if they do it well an album full of different songs will always have an overarching theme (Parachutes - melancholy, AROBTTH - urgency, XY - insecurity, VLVODAAHF - life verus death)

I can't give a comment the thumbs up....only DOWN
Hi, got a problem: whenever I want to give a comment the thumbs up, it says 1 thumbs down when i click once on it ! When i click again it is back to the count before (for example 0). Am I doing something wrong ? (I'm talking about the normal online version of the forum, accessed via Firefox).

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
Just to indulge in some speculation too (not that there was not enough of it, but after all that's what the thread is for ;-)) I think LP7 is not gonna sound like any other album before, because none of their albums ever sounded like one that they made before. Personally, I am slightly pessimistic because I just happened to love their first three albums very much, think VLVODAAHF has mostly great stuff too, think MX has some great moments but not as many, and think GS is a low point containing just one great song for my liking (Ghost Story). So for me, it was a downwards trend they were following (I wonder if they are simply weary after so many years in the business and with each of them having had a completely settled life for years now ?? Unlike in their first years, they don't have to prove themselves any more - as was pointed out above, they are so big that anything they produce will do well in sales and charts, which is a problem in my opinion. Their success is granted - too granted !) Anyway, the first three albums that I love so much each have a very different sound and feel, too, so I told myself that the dice are completely thrown afresh each time and an album with a completely new feel will come, and if it is not entirely electronic drums and synth stuff AND Chris's voice sounds better than on GS, where it was irritatingly scratchy, it might just as well be a great one ! Maybe it would be cool if they did indeed work in influences from classical music as has been proposed based on "Waltz in B minor" etc. Pink Floyd is imho a good example of this classical approach leading to wonderful music. (Oh well, I wouldn't mind them going for progressive rock either !) Whatever it's gonna be, I hope it will have some edge and interesting melodies and won't be as bland as Miracles, which was imho dangerously close to mediocrity and elevator music. Just my 2 cents...

i miss coldplay
How tides control the sea and what becomes of me How little things can slip out of your hands How often voices change, no falsetto stays the same Why this great song as a B-Side just would end These are things that no fan understands Yeah, these are things that no fan understands

Oh yes, lenny, thanks for mentioning True Love. I also found the voice very irritating there, and agree it comes off as overdone and the whole song thus appears to be less "honest", less convincing to me ! It might really be due to his getting older, too, as Batman said, although I must admit I'd have hoped that process sets in only with the Fifties or something.... ;) A tiny spark of hope, it sounded a bit smoother again in Miracles than on most GS songs, so maybe he still can do it... By the way, i think one of the best voice samples (alright, there is many from earlier times !) is his voice in Gravity.... EDIT: yes, I never quite understood how great songs such as I ran away, Gravity, Things I don't understand etc. ended up as B-sides ! They are among their best. They should aim for more "B-Sides", lol

I like the melody of Ghost Story very much and Oceans was OK, too, but I just wanted to ask you all if anyone is bothered by Chris's different voice during MX and especially GS ? I can't be the only one who noticed the change. His voice was so pure and perfect earlier. It sounded so raspy and scratchy in GS and to me, his falsettos in Ghost Story or Oceans ("....disappear"/"meet me in blue sky..") were not even remotely comparable to the quality of his earlier falsettos either. I must admit that along with the electronic/synth feel of recent times, this has bothered me the most. I wonder what your opinions are about this ?

i miss coldplay
Me too. I miss the powerful melodies, honest emotions, strong guitar lines and the general non-electronic/synth feel of the older songs. I miss the way Chris was just so embarassed and innocent back in these days in interviews and jumped around the stage like an awkward maniac during shows. And I miss his earlier voice on the EPs till X&Y - something about it has changed since (with GS being the low point so far) I can't quite put my finger on it but it has changed ! R.I.P. LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
i hope so too, but seeing the musical evolution that Coldplay had over the last two albums, i'm not that optimistic, i have to say. And i think just as Chris was influenced by Radiohead etc. earlier he now listens to Katy Perry and stuff like that, as he has said in interviews. That shows in his music. So i fear we'll get more "happy" EDM like ASFOS :-(

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
I wish the resemblance to VLVODAAHF was for real, but i'm afraid the strings and horns are just accessories to EDM/hip hop style songs....what do you think ?

OMG, what do you have against Crazy Frog ? He recalled the message contained the word Embrace, and this briefly made him consider using gravity to pull himself and his teddy out of the picture.

Why not ? OK, maybe next time you will :-) It was a long and dark december, when one morning Chris Martin woke up, looked into the mirror and found that he had transformed overnight into Crazy Frog.

A Head Full Of Dreams Cover Art
i hope they stick to simple artwork, and not do a literal depiction of a head full of dreams either. i like it when the artwork in itself contains a message or connection to the overall topic that is not immediately obvious, that you have to find out for yourself. by the way the recent Pink Floyd cover (the endless river album ) got (rightfully !) much ridicule for depicting an extremely cheesy scene, so i hope they will steer well clear of that ;)
