===The ultimate Oldplaying Thread===S, BS, TBR, P, AROBTTH, X&Y, VLV, PM===
There has been a slight deterioration in his voice but I think this is just a natural process of aging. I think it's not worth discussing because it's hardly noticeable really, is it? Hardly Liam Gallagher levels of deterioration who was once probably the greatest vocalist in rock history during his tender years and who now sounds like kermit the frog.

When any discussion on this forum goes beyond anything other than pure adoration for absolutely all the output Coldplay gives us you get this violent backlash. The apologists so slavishly defend mediocrity. If Coldplay released an album full of chicken noises people would still defend with the usual lines of wishy-washy, vague and utterly irrefutable argument such as : "Everything they do can be justified by experimentation, therefore if you think the experimentation is bad you are stuck in the past and don't want them to evolve" or "If you don't like everything Coldplay do you're not a real Coldplay fan so you'd be better off leaving the forum etc etc." Honestly anyone who dare say anything negative and give fair criticism are immediately ostracized and sent to the Gallows. Any sort of serious discussion is stifled with the typical "We all love Coldplay, therefore we should never disagree!" The factionalism here sometimes is so obvious it's laughable. Any discussion with any sort of depth follows the same formula. People criticize, some people respond to the actual criticism but the VAST majority will just complain about the fact there's criticism in and about itself and then give each all a congratulatory pat on the back for being the divine curators of all things Coldplaying.

Just because I disagree with you doesn't mean I don't value your opinion and contribution, but to me and a lot of others it would seem, This is utter shite. It's very exasperating trying to debate someone who won't acknowledge the obvious flaws to Amazing Day and to go further and try to claim it's just as good as anything on the first 3 albums is just absurd. Bounds of reason please.

Can I just say you have summed it up beautifully. Yes, I also agree the forums can be quite one-dimensional. A lot of the time people seem more interested in the bands outfits, artwork and the "cutsey-wootsey" things Chris says rather than the quality of the actual music. I think there's really a generational gap like you said, Whereas I would have always considered Coldplay a rock band up with the likes of Radiohead, Oasis etc and when I come to a Coldplay forum I expect to speak to other rock fans who appreciate "real" music so to speak. But there is a serious contingent of people who like pop music in the forum, that's perfectly fine I suppose but you end up with this factionalism as two completely opposing groups of fans are constantly debating the direction of the band and constantly goes round and round in a never ending cycle (It's very hard to debate someone who thinks Amazing Day is as good as Clocks )

I'm sorry but it's absolutely not shite. The music on AROBTTH and Parachutes is not even the same type of music! bands evolving is a natural process, but they do it within their own genres and sub-genres. Listen to Radioheads discography, come back and then we can talk about "experimentation" I'm not going to justify what Coldplay are doing by calling it experimentation anymore. I don't enjoy pop music. I love Coldplay because they are a rock band. If you like banal, generic shite like Amazing Day and True Love that's fine. But don't insult by trying to say it's just as good as anything on Parachutes and AROBTTH because frankly that's just ridiculous.

For me this band made 3 masterpieces and one great album after that. Would the band who wrote Politik have brought some Disney princess who doesn't have two talents to rub together up on stage with them?? It seems to me this ill-advised pop endeavor is just a sick joke that has gone on far too long. I have defended Coldplay to the death for years now and they're starting to lose me. For Coldplay to lose me, a bloody Coldplay fundamentalist... that's telling. If AHFOD follows the direction of the greatly bland Amazing Day (and God knows what collaborations we're to expect :stunned:) I'll be ashamed to call myself a Coldplay fan. Think I'll be hibernating in this thread for the foreseeable future.

ELIMINATION #3: X&Y
Isn't it interesting that in all of the eliminations the opening track has won? :) (Don't Panic, Politik, Square One)

Amazing Day
But don't we all love VLVODAAH? Isn't that experimentation? But that was when Coldplay were still a credible band. Coldplay dangerously bordering sell-out territory in my book.

Amazing Day
Like Miracles it's boring, bland (bordering on Christian rock?!) commercial pop song, with generic, cliche lyrics that ride the wave between sappy and flat out ridiculous, squeaky clean production (if it sounds like that live just imagine the album version) that makes it ridiculously grating to listen to. Like stated by Kid A, it's nothing but "lifestyle" music engineered to be played in tesco's and Top 100 playlists. Utterly forgettable and soulless.

This... I'll tell you. I have a pretty long tether, but collaborations with Disney princesses is where I draw the line. What an amazing fall from grace though. From the band who brought you AROBTTH and once did a collaboration with Richard Ashcroft no less! Coldplay post 2009 are an absolute farce.

Except all of those songs do have guitar parts which are quite essential to the overall song. Listen to Clocks without the guitar and come back to me.

Random Coldplay thoughts...
VLV randomly came on the radio! It's mid chorus now! Good omen for tonight I think ;)
-
LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
That may be so.. but It still doesn't justify a collaboration. No collaborations please!
-
*AHFOD* soundcheck theory time!
Preach!

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
They don't really sound similar to me at all. The Clocks = Speed of Sound thing is nothing more than a myth perpetuated by music critics at the time.

I've got to vote for White Shadows. Square One for victory!

Can I ask your opinion on the theory this might be a song from the GS era that didn't make the album?
-
Amazing Day
I also doesn't fit the energetic and bombastic music video we are expecting. Unless the chorus explodes and takes off which is a possibility. I'm convinced it's from the GS era. I could be wrong though.

Sounds like he's just messing around hitting keys, but if you slowed it down and timed it properly it would sound really nice :)
