🌙 Coldplay: Moon Music 🎵 | Out October 4th | Discussion
Yes it has been a long time. To quote an oft-sung Smashmouth song “The years start coming and they simply do not stop coming” lol. Had to think hard for a moment to remember my password. I like Coloratura for what it is but doesn’t give me the Old Coldplay “wow” feeling that the piano driven Viva and PM songs do for example. Also the fact they used the American spelling of colour instead of the British version irks me but that’s just a petty point from me. I can’t even remember the rest of the album, I listened to it once and pretty much decided that I was completely giving up on the band going forward apart from cherishing the older stuff obviously.

🌙 Coldplay: Moon Music 🎵 | Out October 4th | Discussion
Very quiet here on this website, I’d say many old school type fans have just given up on them at this stage. If this new album is just going to be more of the same pop dirge I’ll be giving it a wide berth. I was so disappointed in the direction they went in after EL, Thought they might have turned a corner and reigned some of the pop nonsense back in but alas it was not to be.

That new album is one of the worst albums I’ve ever had the displeasure of listening to. Awful stuff. Emojis as song titles? Jesus wept.

After AHFOD nothing surprises me with them anymore. They weren’t even confident enough to tour on EL and that says a lot about them now. It’s more about staying relevant and packing out the stadiums and grasping on to any old trend going than making heartfelt music. That strategy might play in the short term but it’s really going to hurt their legacy down the line.

I’m going to vote with my wallet this time and simply not buy the album.

🪐 Coldplay: Music of the Spheres 🪐 | Out Now! | Discussion
You see, my problem with Coldplay the last few years (EL excluded) is just how bland and middle of the road they’ve become. I’m not against them releasing a pop record per se, but do it in a way that upholds your artistic and creative integrity. What do I mean by this? Well, lots of people are hearing a slight 80’s vibe to the new single... well if you want to go 80’s then go FULL 80’s synth wave (aha style) Not tik tok rubbish. It’s not befitting of a band of their calibre. For some reason, whether it’s down to the band themselves or whoever is producing the music, great ideas get diluted along the way and become a hard candy mess along the way. As I said before, I’m not even that annoyed. I predicted this after EL came out and nothing surprises me with them anymore, I just hope they go more EL style for the next LP.

Track 02 - Higher Power | Music of the Spheres
It’s just a matter of personal taste. I’ve posted about it loads here over the years but it just seems every time they go ‘pop’ it just gets worse and worse. The new single to me sounds like it could have been lifted straight from AHFOD or any of the recent EP’s. I just find it derivative and crap to be honest. For those that enjoy it, more power to you’s. It’s just not for me.

I expected nothing and was still let down. Seems EL was just a flash in the pan and now they’re back to pop Coldplay.

I love Everyday Life. To me this album is even better than Viva, and that’s really saying something for a Coldplay album released this decade. Long live Oldplay.

If it does happen (big if) I don’t know how it would really turn out. Ken Nelson has a big footprint on that record and without him I think a lot of the songs could end up sounding very Ghost Stories-esque and in my opinion that would be a step backward for that album, not forward. Or Chris Martin could go full new play and have Arianna Grande do vocals on Fix You and turn Speed of Sound into an R&B/Rap track.....

X&Y is the definition of Oldplay so if you enjoy it more than X&Y it’s definitely a return!- Live at the Natural History Museum London 25 Nov 2019
This is scandalous. Life just isn’t fair sometimes. The fact there was only 300 tickets, we never had a hope. This is the third time I’ve missed out on tickets.... agh maybe next time!- Live at the Natural History Museum London 25 Nov 2019
Will they go up on the likes of stubhub, viagogo etc? I’d pay a bit more for tickets but £500 is extortionate.- Live at the Natural History Museum London 25 Nov 2019
No, I doubt I’ll get tickets now. Anyone hazard a guess how much they’ll be going for on resale websites?- Everyday Life - Live in Jordan on YouTube 22 Nov
A R A B E S Q U E- Unnamed LP9 Thread
X&Y is NOT a failed version of anything... and certainly doesn’t need “fixing” : unamused:- Unnamed LP9 Thread
Everyday life was the first LP that got me excited about the band in a very long time but this news coming from record execs hinting that LP9 is more poppy and mainstream is disappointing to say the least. I had this uneasy feeling before AHFOD was released that turned out being correct, and I have it again now. I really do hope I’m wrong. To clarify, I have no real objection to the band doing something that’s more uplifting and happy than EL, but if it’s going to be pop I’d want to see it being more like MX than AHFOD. The live version of some MX songs seen before the album was released showed that the band can do that style with grace and decorum, but Coldplay’s album versions of poppy songs are horrible, bubblegum, saccharine sounding messes that are just down to awful production. So if it is indeed true that EL is not a new direction for the band, I do hope “poppy” translates to a better produced MX with plenty of guitar, bass and a few acoustic gems thrown in, less collaborations and more of the band.- LP8 Thread - Everyday Life
I’ve seen on FB that people have gotten their cd’s/vinyls already. Lucky people lol.- ===The ultimate Oldplaying Thread===S, BS, TBR, P, AROBTTH, X&Y, VLV, PM===
Could anyone link that interview?- ===The ultimate Oldplaying Thread===S, BS, TBR, P, AROBTTH, X&Y, VLV, PM===
I always refer back to this interview with Chris during the AHFOD era: At 10:40 he is asked about the change in sound and pretty much explains their view on writing music. Just because we got a good album with the right influences this time, doesn’t mean we’re not going to get a pop album one direction would be proud of next time round. Hopefully I’m wrong, but I’d dare say just because EL is a return to Oldplay, we’re not out of the woods yet in regards the near future.- ===The ultimate Oldplaying Thread===S, BS, TBR, P, AROBTTH, X&Y, VLV, PM===
https://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/coldplays-record-label-say-they-want-to-release-another-album-as-soon-as-possible-after-everyday-life__27757/ Concerning stuff coming from Parlophone at the moment. from Parlophone’s co-president: “I don’t think it’s a sister record. This is very much a record the band needs to get out of their system” “Get out of their system”!? This has me very worried that EL will be a flash in the pan and the Newplay pop ship will be steered right back on course. Still too early to say Coldplay are back ladies and gentlemen!- ===The ultimate Oldplaying Thread===S, BS, TBR, P, AROBTTH, X&Y, VLV, PM===
It’s exactly what we’ve all been asking for a long time, minus a few minor points on song placement and length, so I was a bit surprised you didn’t like it at first.- Everyday Life Structure: X&Y + Viva
