  1. If not that then Fix You Maybe? The Scientist? Shiver? Help Is Round the Corner?
  2. I know what lyric your referring to... hmm
  3. ^ The Thing is with In My Place, it has a good enough guitar part to keep me interested. It's gorgeous IMO and that's something that can be repeated. Even though all that really is repeated is the guitar riff. Army Of One is literally the same all the way through. Quiet, loud, quiet, loud. At least In My Place repeats two times, then after that they change it up a lot. The guitar riff is a bit repetitve and while very nice loses it's power throughout the song. It doens't become boring like Army Of One but it just loses it's power. Also, the verse and chorus are very different in In My Place. The drumbeat literally never changes in Army Of One, the only difference between the verse and the chorus is different lyrics, organs. Added on top of the drumbeat. The organ's melody changes a bit but not a lot (although it does sound nice). But honestly the verse and chorus sound so similar... it becomes bland and boring. Wheras In My Place changes it up quite a lot. I also like In My Place's sound as a whole, and definetely one of the top songs off AROBTTH for me. EDIT: I was originally going to say this but got sidetracked: In My Place's riff part is repeatable for a while. Army Of One's part gets boring after 2 minutes. Of course the chorus changes it up which helps. Also in my opinion In My Place and Army Of One are two completely different songs with different sounds. The one thing that's similar is that they both start with drums. Oh, and they have the same tempo. The drums are really similar actualy. But as for the rest, completely different. I think The Hardest Part would be a better example. While it doesn't start with the drums, and has a different tempo, it's sound resembles Army Of One easier than In My Place does. Of course it's lighter but they're a bit similar, also in the way how they're super repetitive. Like, The Hardest Part has a sick guitar part at the intro, the piano intro and backing the guitar is amazing, and the first verse or so is actually pretty interesting, and has a very nice sound to it. The part that comes after that is pretty good also. But after that it gets super repetitive, and honestly after that I can't help but yawn through it all. I used to think it was pretty good but after I listened a few times it's actually a pretty weak track in that just like Army Of One, it never changes much. Army Of One is obviously worse, but hey. Same idea. :)
  4. No The Black Eyed Peas
  5. Clocks sounds EDM ish... but heavy XD (talking about 2x speed of course :P)
  6. ^ Yes :D I love the live version even more too...
  7. No... Beyonce (other than HFTW)
  8. I really like the drumbeat at first to be honest, but as a whole the song just gets so repetitive bland and boring at the end as it goes on... the drumbeat sounds so strong in the beginning and then is just fades... dont know why. Also the organs IMO sound like Fix You more than Lost!.
  9. Good because I agree :P Army Of One
  10. ^ I could see that. I do find it much easier to rank a specific type of song than different songs together, you know.

^ I totally agree on DLIBYH (although I don't let that stand in the way of enjoying the song, since it's such an epic and powerful song... so uplifting and dancey (in the good way, I always feel so energized when listening to it)) however I don't know what's wrong with the production on AHFOD (besides that it's a little "clean"...) EDIT: I do prefer the live version of AHFOD however. It sounds much better. Unlike Up&Up however, it's only a small difference in quality so I'm not too concerned about the studio version. But I'd wish that Coldplay realizes honestly what kinds of decisiions they're making on songs now. Yes, the production is getting worse, but it's the bands problem really, because they seem to either be fine with it sounding that way or... no. If they let it on the album they're not just "fine" with it, they know it's the best choice, to their ears anyway, even though it isn't. They like the pop production so they'll let it through. They want that. My view entirely, I think now the blame should be put on the band. The producer gets chosen by the band, and if it sounds the way it is on the album the band likes it. It's a sign of their musical tastes obviously changing to pop because not only are they making poppier songs, they're going with pop producers now. Not really Stargate's fault. To some ears, the production would sound great. He's a pop producer, meant to appeal to pop fans, Not us alt-rock fans who prefer a different type of, slightly "messier-sounding" production which in my (and mostly everyone else's) opinion, gives that feel to a song that.. it's hard to explain. Wouldn't be the same way if it had pop style production. It's on the band, because they wanted it, they're going with it, and they want a pop producer to make hits for them. Sad but true. Coldplay's tastes are turning to pop and that's further confirmed by the Beyonce and Bruno Mars Superbowl thing. Yes that's right. A once rock band is now going with the pop starts. Not that I don't like those artists' music: in fact every song I've heard by Bruno Mars sounds great. Not Coldplay great, but you know. Beyonce's a little pop for me although "Halo" is pretty good :) But I'd like Coldplay to not drop to that level of pop (they've taken another step towards pop with AHFOD, which I'd never have wanted to have happen...) At least they haven't crossed the line with me yet :) Although they're getting closer... However I think this is the closest they're going to get. I see this album as probably the end of their pop era. LP8 will probably start fresh and new with something completely new that Coldplay ain't done before. Maybe an ambient? Ambient-rock? I'd love to see those from the band... it's sure to be an amazing product if they do. A man can dream... one thing's for sure however: Chris Martin is 38. He's not going to be jumping all crazy over the stage for much longer (at least I hope so). Speaking of that, I remember one time I was watching "Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall" on Letterman and he fell over lol! Anyone watch that? One of the reasons he may want to consider not jumping around so much :P By then though, they'd probably switched back to making more melancholic and meaningful stuff. It's nice to have some fun stuff too which I really appreciate but I love that a lot too... we'll see. That's my reasoning anyway, feel free to come up with your own thoughts on what will happen :)
  12. I love ASFOS. It's so underrated I can't help but enjoy dancing every time I listen to it. It sounds so amazing to my ears anyway.... it may be EDM but that don't mean it's bad. Coldplay totally did it right IMO... what saddens me is that they used the radio edit version of the song :( Shorter vid... but I love it much more over the video they released.
  13. I have the ability to rank every song from best to worst in it's own era XD It's difficult tho. My opinion changes all the time and I look at the list and usually change things up because I thought it fit there but it didn't. But usually the songs are in groups. They're in order somewhat but I may change it up. Since I can rank every song from every era I'm actually working on an all Coldplay song list from best to worst... probably not going to be that accurate but I'll do my best :P Ranking songs from eras helps since you can pick the best of the #1's, then you can decide between all the other era's #1's and then the second best from the best song's era... for example you wouldn't be able to pick 3 and you have only to decide between 7 songs or so not that hard for me :P
  14. Ummmmm wouldn't you be voting Army Of One? I thought you hated it so much? Just wondering, you don't have to change if you don't want..
  15. Army Of One I originally disliked HFTW worse and put it below Army Of One but my opinion's changed. HFTW is actually quite interesting and changes a lot, trumpets are a nice addition, sounds super poppy but hey, the chorus is actually soaring and pretty nice. (Not Paradise or Viva-soaring, but soaring enough for you to get into it and enjoy it). Like how the song ends as well. The instrumentation is actually pretty decent. Beyonce, IMO is a very nice addition, fits well with the song (probably because it sounds more "Beyonce" than "Coldplay"). Better than most radio pop nowadays, but to be honest fits right in with them (with the obvious stand-out points like the guitar and everything, it's actually a bit weirder but still sounds quite mainstream, but good). Wheras Army Of One starts out with a really strong beat, and overall the intro is freaking amazing, the organs are nice, however the song barely changes which makes it boring. That section is meant to be put as an intro and it isn't meant to be repeated over and over again, because it gets repetitve and boring. I like the overall sound it's just again it gets boring unlike HFTW which actually changes and is interesting. The sound in Army Of One is like a one-time thing because it doesn't work well when repeated. If Army Of One started out like that but changed a lot I'd be satisfied with it and would be voting HFTW out but it's just so repetitve and boring now I've changed my mind since HFTW is actually a really good "mainstream" song.
  16. Best part of the song. It's what makes my place Politik in my Top 10 Coldplay songs.
  17. No Backstreet Boys
  18. No Avril Lavigne
  19. Sorry, I worded it badly. This is better: Stargate messed it up, and Coldplay liked it for some reason so they put it on the album. You are right in the sense that Coldplay were fine with it so they didn't do extra work on it. Bad decision by the band, as a result they let it through onto the albums themselves technically as it was their decision. So they messed up. Not "it", but they messed up on the decision. As a result we got a studio version that has the unneccesary drum beat in the intro. piano not loud enough. Chris forgot to playing a piano after the intro part (and numerous other parts during the song) , and the singalong is missing energy because 1. the ride cymbal and real drums are missing and 2. guitar solos buried because of the production (which apparently Coldplay are fine with Stargate burying guitar solos like that for whatever reason). Anyway thats how I hear the song.
  20. I miss him, wish he'd come back. Wish Coldplay would hire him again and realize the advantage he is over Stargate. No more ruined tracks please. Stargate messed up big time on Up&Up. Completely ruined the studio version of the song -- haven't listened to the studio version in full yet because I know it'll be a letdown. Live version is just so much better and always replaces the studio version on my player. Or Jon Hopkins
  21. The studio version doesn't have nearly as much energy as the live version. The live version is amazing and always replaces the studio version on my player. I'll always tell my opinion on Up&Up as if it were the live version unless stated otherwise.
  22. That actually sounds soooo good... I never heard that before. I only heard the studio version till now.
  23. The only other Coldplay song that can make me cry other than UWTB. That line hits me every time. I love the background noise or whatever you'd call it that starts right around a minute into the song with the lyrics "Drums, here it comes" The way he sings it and the background noise always make me cry when it comes. That "background noise" always gives me a warm feeling but along with Chris' vocals simply make me cry. It places #7 on my Coldplay list. (And I tell you those other 6 songs are pretty freaking good if it can beat Prospekt's March). I think of Prospekt's March as a sadder, calmer, and quieter UWTB. IMO, it's the saddest song Coldplay have made, with "But here I lie on my own in a seperate sky" being Coldplay's saddest lyric.
