A Rush of Blood to the Head: hurt and heal
It'd be unfair to keep it out for no reason other than it randomly getting lost. Can't believe none of us noticed that lol.. I don't know what it was at before though and I'm too lazy to check. A Rush of Blood to the Head: hurt and heal
It's good and I enjoy it, but I don't see what's super duper special about it... Just an opinion. (I have to admit though, the fact that Chris came up with the riff in the fashion that it happened is outstanding though...)

A Rush of Blood to the Head: hurt and heal
^ I find it incredibly surprising that it's out. I see people praising it left right and center. I personally think it's somewhat overrated, but I enjoy it. No doubt it's a good song, but people are praising it as one of the greatest songs of all time, but I don't see what's too overly special about it... I am currently listening to....
I do agree with what you're saying. It's especially true with modern day pop music, and since around the latter half of 2015 or so there's always been a lot of songs that just sound exactly the same, with the same beat, same synths, etc... No originality, really. I feel like right around 2012 was the last year of really good pop music. Lots of melodic, energetic EDM (not like what's popular today, which is just a slightly more energetic version of pop, and even sometimes dips into hip hop), and really melodic pop music. After that, everything started slowly converging into the electropop style that is far too overplayed and well-known today. The industry has found the perfect sound to please people listening to mainstream music, and for the time being that's what will be popular. We need a new Nirvana or something to completely revolutionize what's popular once again. because all that's popular is this style of music. Back before 2010 you had a variety of songs to listen to, such as rock, normal pop, electropop, hip hop, EDM, R&B, etc... and much more. Now it seems like everything made is a slight variation of electropop music. And the problem is, since 2012 songs have gotten progressively less melody-based and focusing more on harsher electronic sounds placed in a way to make catchiness the appealing point. Not that there's anything wrong with a song being catchy, because that's great, but if that's the only thing a song relies on to attempt to make it appealing that won't work for me, and that's why I don't care so much for pop music as it is today. Also, I've noticed that there's a lot more space in pop music now, making use of short sounds. I feel like that's a way to take away energy from a song to make it more appealing to today's mainstream tastes. Songs with sustained noises like Coldplay still are what I enjoy. I don't mind space in a song but when it's all chopped up and clearly electronically processed I like a song less. I also like more refined electronic noises better than the harshness of what's popular now. Anyway I've gone way off topic and you get my point. I still do think pop music has it's purpose, and some of us are mistaking it, but you're right in the sense of today's pop music. I don't feel like it was that way a few years back now. And even the songs like "Party Rock Anthem" (one of my guilty pleasures) which are obviously not creative or artistic at all have their time and place. I feel like the deeper a song gets, the less I'll listen to it because I like to reserve it for more and more special occasions. I still prefer the "normal" alt rock the best though, and I'm glad listening to other songs on a regular basis., even if I do like deeper songs more. EDIT: I just realised this is the "I am currently listening to" thread...

Kaleidoscope EP
It's always interesting to see how an artist evolves. At first I didn't really like Slide but upon listening to it a few times I actually really enjoyed it. Still don't like that annoying autotuned vocal somewhere in there though. Hmm, interesting about Kendrick. I might check him out, he actually sounds like he'd be decent. I usually don't like the sound of trap beats, but there are a few songs that do it right, and maybe his is amongst them. His new album being rated the highest on Metacritic so far in 2017 gives me hope. (Side note: Some time back I cringed when I seen Sia's collaboration with him before even listening since at the time I assumed every modern hip hop artist was no good, and I regarded Sia as someone who made beautiful melodic pop songs including "Chandelier" and, best of them all IMO "Breathe Me". But now that I know a bit more about Kendrick Lamar I might not be so opposed to him. It's just that it's hard to not assume certain things about modern hip hop since juist about all I hear when I turn on HipHopNation is songs with no melody, annoying beats, and autotuned mumble vocats. I'll definitely give Kendrick a chance thoujgh, haven't really heard or payed attention to anything he's made or been featured in besides The Greatest) I did notice that the effects in Hypnotised were a bit loud. Too bad they distort the track. I personally don't mind them, but oh well. Maybe they would be better done had Brian Eno produced the track - so glad the boys are bringing him back on A L I E N S. This should be a good one. Glad they're finally starting to get serious about making original and unique music again at least. Speaking of A L I E N S... Well, tomorrow is Friday... so there's always a chance we'll hear it soon. :D

Kaleidoscope EP
I've listened to more of his music and you are right about no autotune on him or mumbling. So he is slightly better than acts like Future who do (and it seems like the majority of hip hop artists do nowadays so that's why I made an incorrect assumption about Big Sean). Still though, I'd assume from songs like "Bounce Back" that his music consists of not a lot of melody, or none, a mediocre beat, and poor lyrics. About the Calvin Harris new track, you mean "Feels" right? He had a song some time back that also featured Big Sean (Open Wide). The intro was great, and usually in songs like this that tease me I'd say the rest isn't very good but it's actually really catchy and I kinda like it. I still prefer the Calvin Harris from songs like "Summer" and "This Is What You Came For" though. It's just when I hear hip hop voices like that I automatically assume it's gonna go downhill really fast, but he actually did good. As for Kendrick Lamar, I haven't heard too much of his music but I've heard he's actually good so I might listen to some of his music soon. To get a track like "Homecoming" would be great. I heard that one clip that Big Sean uploaded of Chris Martin playing something (I think) and it sounded decent. Although what usually happens in songs like that is it'll begin great, then some annoying hip hop beat comes in and ruins it. Hopefully that won't happen. Speaking of Hypnotised, I personally don't mind the vocal effects. They sounded weird to me at first though. It would be interesting to hear a version of the track without those effects so hopefully we get it. I think the biggest problem for me in the track is how the piano at the end doesn't go up notes, but it goes down instead. If it went up I think it would be more energetic.

Chris Martins Piano SOUND
I pirated it some time ago. Used Audacity for some time, and still do a lot of the time. And I know quite a bit about musical compostion, I've made numerous short clips of songs on piano so think I'm good there... Thanks for the advice though. FL looks really clean which is why I like it.

Underrated/Overrated Acts
Thought I'd start a thread so we can share what we think is really underrated or overrated music. You can put whatever band/group or singer in here that you want, and however many of them you want. For the sake of example I'll start with three. Underrated: Overrated: Hmmm I'll get back to you on that.In general though, just about any modern hip hop act or pop act (not as much though) is overrated to me. Note: These are only opinions! Don't take it like what I'm saying, or anyone else for that matter, is fact. Because it isn't. Music is subjective and even though we might get upset over some things, in the end it doesn't even matter! ;)

I like the new style actually, it looks really clean and nice but it's too bad some features aren't available with the new system like the shoutbox. I do get nostalgic from time to time about the one vBulletin style I seen when I joined the forum though... Oh well.
