  1. Nooooooo lol my stream is gone but I can still hear it upstairs on the TV!!!!!!!
  2. I know, it's so powerful... My heart goes out to all the victims of the attacks, and I stand with Manchester. This song is the perfect song for this.
  3. Ooooooooooooh what if it's a tease for new song off of KEP???
  4. The one that just played is Don't Look Back in Anger by Oasis. Pretty good This next song is an intro to Fix You and I don't know what it is either
  5. Absolutely fantastic performance! Fix You on now!!!!!!!!!!
  6. Ohh right this is the performance with Chris and Jonny and Ariana of Don't Look Back in Anger...
  7. Great performances by all here tonight. Justin Bieber on now. Especially like the song he's playing now
  8. Anyone else watching the Manchester concert?
  9. At least their being "Honest" about it. "Memories.... Do Not Open", because if you have any, you'll know all the songs sound the same!
  10. Hm, I think these two albums are too distant from each other to sound well one after another, but I'm fine with it. Both are my fav albums from Coldplay anway. A 10 min break should help for sure. I'm up for it.
  11. Still makes me cringe. But the second part of the song makes up for it, bigly. (sorry I had to) The first four words make sense, but I can't hear the "f" in "for". It sounds like "poor". And if it is "is you" then he sings it in a way that makes it sounds like "shoe". Hopefully you're right though, cause that would make me cringe way less in the final version. Maybe it's just a mic glitch or something that makes it sounds like poor... To me it sounds like "I wanna walk into" or "I wanna walk in a tube" :P
  12. Interesting. Will have to check these out.
  13. Absolutely gorgeous. It's like a watered down Up With The Birds, which is great because that makes it more suitable for more regular listening. Up With The Birds is so emotional and amazing I reserve it for very special occasions only.
  14. Facepalm. Live from my favorite era and I missed it... ughhhhhh
  15. Thoughts: The first part is kinda good. Nothing too special though. Drums and lyrics are meh. Guitar is nice, but the bass is what shines here. It works. But.... the second part... Is. Absolutely. Freaking. Lit. Coldplay has delivered an aboslutely outstanding masterpiece in the second part of this song, from when it's just the piano building up, and then Will's drums and the strings join, giving it a and then the explosion of everything, which is probably my favorite part of any song. But this... Usually for Coldplay it's a happy explosion or kind of a sad one, but this one is really dark and emotional it seems, really unique for Coldplay. Jonny and Will kill it on their respective instruments here, and this is probably some of the best drumming I have ever seen from Will in particular. Outstanding fills, and gorgeous guitar work from Jonny. Guy's bass is fantastic throughouit, and as @arushofjacktothehead mentioned it is reminiscent of Radiohead's Colin Greenwood. I like the background strings that round this all off with an otherworldly vibe. Only problem I have is Chris' shouting the same "All I can... All I can... All I can think about is you" Not very original, and when Coldplay did another piano and strings build up with Politik they used a much better phrase that fit more. But that's literally the only downside, everything else is fantastic. Yeah, I hope this don't turn out like Up&Up where it gets turned unlistenable because the live version is amazing but the studio isn't whatsoever due to overproduction. But now that Stargate's not working with them anymore this should turn out much better, and the production on Hypnotised is fantastic. So I have higher hopes this time. But who knows... Mostly I guess, and that's great that it's a proper dark alternative rock song with only strings to support it. But I think those strings give off a vibe that wouldn't be present if it weren't there. So it's a good thing I think. Hopefully this song don't turn out the way Up&Up did in the studio version. Cause I need a good quality studio version of this....Too good...
  16. ?? I've only heard praise for it. I am all for the Eno influence for sure, and I have seen no one dislike it... Agreed with your post for sure though. Too bad they worked with Stargate instead on AHFOD. Now that they're gone and Chainsmokers have only been on one song, for the rest on the EP we're seeing what AHFOD should have been. Just like U.F.O? I wasn't around for the Mylo era, but when I seen that title I expected a heavy alternativr sort of track with electronic influences. So agreed man, all the way. I always listen to the live debut of that song now, goosebumps all over... For me, the studio version of Up&Up is the most obvious instance that shows how Stargate's overproduction on AHFOD watered down a song (and the album), to put it lightly.... Very true. I was at first disappointed when I heard the date was pushed back from what we had seen on the website when they edited the announcement, but if it is to improve the EP then I'm all for it. If it's just for a collab that as a clip I've seen possibly shows that'll be awful, than I'll be incredibly frustrated.... *cough*Up&Up*cough* Please, please, please, please, please no. Work with Rihanna, Beyonce, Tove Lo, Avicii, The Chainsmokers, Stargate, whatever. I don't care. IMO, those are all incredible, fantastic, melodic, beautiful artists when compared to this one. Sure, the artists listed above may not be the most unique, but at least they make catchy music (or produce), have great melodies in some songs, can get you dancing, and are fun to listen to. No matter how generic, bland, cringy, or similar the songs may sound, in my opinion, they will all be light years more original, unique, and listenable than modern hip hop artists like Big Sean are. Don't believe me? Look up "Bounce Back" and go from there if you wish to cause any more pain to your ears. I'm pretty sure no one will want anything to do with this guy with a collab with Chris Martin after hearing the first 10 seconds... ugh. All hip hop is today is a plastic sounding trap beat that anyone can come up with (I have no clue how this style of drums got popular in the first place), anyone can mumble over it as well as everyone does today. and there's little to no melody, and if there is it's quickly replaced with these obnoxious sounding electronic drums that sound absolutely awful and take away the vibe the song at first had going for it. Lyrics are by far the worst out of any genre as well. If Chris Martin actually collabs with this guy I will be blown away, considering the uniqueness and creativity Coldplay have showcased to us with these soundchecks or live performances. Every single pop artist, especially that I listed, at least in my opinion, is far, far better than I can ever see hip hop becoming ever again. At least most have catchy melodies, and the worst ones, not including songs that are heavily influenced by hip hop or trap like Hotline Bling, are listenable without wanting to turn it off after 10 seconds, to put it very lightly. If this does turn out to be a collab, please let this only be a one time thing, and please let it not be Miracles 2. And please, please, please let Coldplay not decide to go this direction for their next LP... not like I could ever see it, especially seeing as they've been becoming more artistic over the last little while and showcasing it to us through soundchecks and live performances of new music, but even use of trap drums in a generic and unoriginal way would really tick me off as IMO they are by far the worst sounding. Now for the people that like hip hop on this forum, please don't take this as an insult to all hip hop. In fact. I like some songs from mainly the 2000's and before that actually had some melody and atmosphere to them, and a real vibe. Like "Changes" (by far my favorite), "What It's Like", "Where'd You Go", "Dead and Gone", and even "Take Care" from 2012, which is in my opinion the only really good song Drake has done, a collab with Rihanna. Of course the next songs in their series of collabs turned out to be awful, and I don't even mind a lot of Drake songs I heard on the radio pre Hotline Bling. When he started doing that trap thing that seems to be all what hip hop is nowadays I was done. But all these songs, or at least the first four, also have a story behind them and a meaning to take from that, which IMO is a vital part of a good hip hop song. They have lyrics that mean something other than being at the club and having strippers dance for you which is pretty much all that hip hop is today. Even back then a lot of this type of music was like that, but at least there were some good songs with it. It's too sad that hip hop went the direction it did. It seems like every mainstream genre has taken a turn for the worse in the past few years, even rock, whether heavy metal, normal, indie, or alternative, isn't what it once was. But hip hop has turned into a totally unlistenable genre, to put it incredibly lightly, over the past few years. One of my friends that was a hardcore listener of hip hop even says that there's almost nothing new that's any good from anybody. TL;DR: Please don't let this collab happen. Hip hop has become an absolutely terrible genre, and it makes pop artists that Coldplay have worked with like Beyonce, Rihanna, Tove Lo, Avicii, and The Chainsmokers look like musical legends in my opinion. End of rant.
  17. Hi, as you know these guys just released their album "Memories... Do Not Open". I posted initial thoughts on their songs on thread "I am currently listening to", go check it out if you want. But this is my updated opinion, so it will represent more of what I actually think of the album now. Upon a second casual listen, my subconscious picked up some things that my conscious mind didn't upon first listen. It seems that the majority of the songs reuse the same hooks, melodies, beats, and chord progressions, or at least similar. They just play different roles, and played in different parts of the song and sound different. Overall, a lot of the songs feel undercooked, like not enough effort was put into them or something... something's definitely missing. Of course the blaring exception is "Last Day Alive" (IMO this is a great song, especially the drop). Young has a nice beginning with the guitar, but if it were more rock based with less electronic elements and kept the intro going this would be a lot better. (Also with better lyric work). Break Up Every Night has mediocre lyrics like the entire album but apart from that it's rather good, it's a stand out for these guys (calling it "indie rock" and "alternative" is pushing it a touch though). The One is nice but should not be the opener, and should have a more organic feel to it in the piano sections. Almost every other song is a blend of some piano and electronic elements growing later in the songs, with similar beats melodies and such. IMO, the worst song is "It Won't Kill Ya". Drop sounds really dumb and it's just not very good at all. Most songs I think are definitely listenable, but definitely not unique, artistic, or unpredictable, which is another problem with the album. When you listen to it... there's hardly any surprises, you know what's just around the corner nearly every second of the album (the most obvious example of this is their signature "one or two instrument fade out" at the end of just about every song), there aren't any hidden sounds really, everything is obvious, and this results in the album becoming as a whole, kind of forgettable after the first few listens. I think if this album had less electronic elements, was a bit more rock-based like Coldplay, sounded more organic (the vocal production on this album gets annoying at points, especially in piano sections), had better lyrics, and had a greater variety of beats, chord progressions, melodies, and hooks, this would be a much better album, or at least to me. I took a listen to Ghost Stories (@SprayCanSoulGuy's "Rehaunted" edit, at that) and it was really refreshing, actually. There is tons of variety in the songs, the lyrics are nowhere near as cringe, none of the songs annoy you by teasing some great piano intro then replacing it with unnecessary electronic elements... Ghost Stories is an example, at least to me, of a really good electronic album with mainly a pop influence, although some others in parts. Hopefully these guys learn from this and do a bit better of a job next time. It's definitely not an album I wouldn't listen too, as I've listened to it about 4 times by now and I've enjoyed it, but there are definitely lots of areas where this needs work. Definitely not "unique" or "artistic", or at least for the most part. It seems to become a bit more boring each time I listen to it, as well. Guess this is yet another example of how cheap pop music sounds catchy at first, yet quickly fades. Oh well. Maybe one day they'll go back to making actual great music like "Roses" (I know a lot of you really do like this one, as do I). Meanwhile, I'll be mainly enjoying "The One", "Break Up Every Night", "Young", and "Last Day Alive". For the record, anyone who hates this album isn't alone. I've seen numerous Chainsmokers fans take a strong disliking to this album, wanting more talented content as they say they used to make. I guess the guy in that video up above was right.
