  1. I agree, @MC01Coldplay did a great job of improving the album. I especially like what he did with Everglow with the rain. It feels so raw and emotional now, even more than before.
  2. I checked and it is actually 2:20 in length. Finally got around to downloading these videos in mp3 so I can listen to it whenever. It seems so bizzare that this would be one of their recent songs though... after an album like AHFOD, we get this Viva era style song.. I wonder what the final version would sound like. I like how the song slowly evolves over a semi repetitve drumbeat. It draws me in, kind of hypnotises me in that way. It's kind of a happy song but the guitar in bits also seems sad. Certainly more unique than just about anything off AHFOD... I wonder, if all Coldplay needed was someone other than Stargate or some other big pop producer, and this album would have been a lot better. Saying this as a fan of AHFOD btw. It's not that I don't like the album because I do, but I feel it gets unoriginal in parts and especially some songs feel like they could have been made by any modern pop rock band, which wasn't the case even just a few years ago. I feel like some tracklisting choices were off (especially Everglow to AOAL to Fun) and the middle part just feels like it drags on. Some of the songs themselves are great though. But I do feel if Coldplay worked with a better producer, maybe we would have had something better... I mean, yes, in the end Coldplay allowed these songs to go through in the first place, and we do know especially Chris Martin has poppier tastes than some of us would like, but now we're hearing these new songs and soundcheck audios that sound refreshing.... It's like what AHFOD was meant to be, with these really diverse influences we were all getting hyped up about pre AHFOD. And I think mine, and other's hopes are starting to get up for KEP. Let's hope the band doesn't disappoint, which so far for the most part they haven't, even with SJLT I was extremely surprised with the amount of praise that one got... let's keep in mind though that this is a Chainsmokers song with Coldplay, not the other way around as well, so just Coldplay will be expected to be better for most of us. Thinking this could signal a new direction for the band... I mean Prospekt's March didn't come out that long after Viva and even that showed a hint of a new sound. KEP is coming out a year and a half after AHFOD and as we've heard so far there is quite an evolution in their sound since AHFOD, and for the better. And yes, for the past two eras excluding AHFOD I know that the B sides and extra songs have recieved more praise for being more unique than the album songs, and this era seems to be no different so far. But I don't think it's a coincidence that now that Stargate is gone, their sound is improving. And when it's just Coldplay they've sounded great so far. Even though Chris still wants to work with pop acts I'm glad that when they're on their own they seem to sound really good recently, in the one song we've heard officially released and the soundchecks alike. I think this is gonna be good.
  3. This is such a great idea, why hasn't anyone noticed this in a month? I'm sure you all know I'm the type to enjoy this. :)
  4. ^ What's funny is that I just started thinking of that song a minute before I seen your post. Currently the intro is playing in my head :D
  5. Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I just heard that an artist named "Dua Lipa" has revealed that she is working with Chris Martin on a new song. Looked her up and I'm not convinced this will be the best collaboration, especially for those of us who enjoy more unique and original content.... But I guess we'll just wait and see.
  6. Great thoughts. Too bad about the "all I can" being sung over and over again, it does feel bland and uninspired. Not very original. A Moon Shaped Pool is freaking amazing by the way. I don't know how they do it.. it's absolutely perfect for listening to on a cloudy day, and it's not like it has super memorable melodies but I think the production is absolutely freaking fantastic on it, which really puts it up there for me. For me, if music gives me a vibe I really like, I'll like it, and I can respect that the legends Radiohead can pull that off in the most unique ways possible, as they've done with this album. I do agree that the new soundchecks reminds me of AMSP in a way.... definitely didn't think of it on my own but I can see the resemblence now that you've mentioned it. Also really reminds me of Viva in a way, especially that one soundcheck with the relaxing, almost hypnotising by being repetitive guitar line... I can't remember exactly since I haven't listened to it in a bit of time, but I'm sure everyone knows what I'm talking about. It is relieving that this won't be some typical pop song. We got close enough to that with SJLT, as you've mentioned (even though I really do like the track). Also, I completely agree with you. I can't believe that Chainsmokers put this on their album and so has Coldplay. I have no idea how this song is supposed to transition into SJLT at all... A rather unique song with a completely different vibe transitions into this... Hmm... There wasn't really a need to put SJLT on KEP anyway. Not sure why they did. Interesting though, that there is the same song on two different works... I haven't seen anything like that before. Agree with your thoughts. Great guitar work by Jonny, and IMO the only thing I find wrong with the drumbeat is that they already did that before. Doesn't really fit with the song either. I can't really describe what the song feels like to me.... I do know that it is slightly reminiscent of Atlas in parts. I agree about the repetitveness. Some repetitive songs are actually really good and there definitey is a right way to do them but this is the kind of song that would get incredibly boring if done that way. Slower songs need to evolve and change....otherwise it gets boring. About the lyrics, definitely could be better. Repeating "all I can" isn't very original. I really do hope that other track is Aliens. Sounds amazing. Totally need more of it! Hopefuily it doesn't get too repetitve in the final version on KEP. I personally thought it was fine but I guess saying "all I can" over and over doesn't help. I think the absence of Stargate really opened up Coldplay again to less poppy ideas and more original ones. With Hypnotised we truly got a taste of what I felt Coldplay was really trying to achieve with AHFOD. It's a truly dreamy, unique track, that slowly builds up to an outstanding finish. (By that I mean the near end of the song, the way the song actually ends abruptly, I am not a fan of that.) Now we have this new song which would have also never made it under Stargate. Of course they did work on the Chainsmokers with SJLT, but really that's their song, it's sprinkles of Coldplay on what The Chainsmokers usually do. So I don't really know why it's on here when this EP seems to otherwise be a more original and unique take on AHFOD. I can't see this new song transitioning into SJLT very well... But we'll see. Aliens sounds amazing, if that is in fact the track. Still waiting for the other song...
  7. Interesting, just got on and seen the twitter post! Exciting. Seems kinda bland but kinda nice. Low quality of the soundcheck won't hold a candle to the final version, so we'll see. Defintely do like them playing around with unique chord changes and notes though. Overall I like it. Sounds like he says "horseshoe" in one part though lol
  8. Meh, listening to it right now and giving it a shot cause I like some of the Chainsmoker's other songs. I was going to do it a while back and I seen the audio tracks pop up on my YouTube feed since I'm subbed and remembered hearing about this album somewhere else and the release date, and was going to listen to it athough I forgot till now. These individual reviews of the songs are done as I'm listening to them on the first run through, with some edits later on after I'm done. The One doesn't make any sense for an album opener but hey it's okay. As I've mentioned before would be a lot better if it feeled "realer" and didn't have all this electronicness in it (although the second part seems kinda cool regardless). The production certainly doesn't fit with that piano ballad thing they were trying to do in the first bit of the song. But they're not the type of group that's fit to make that anyway. Break Up Every Night sounds really good at first listen. Certainly a departure from that overused Closer sound so that's upside at least. Almost has an electronic Fray feel to it, like something from Helios but poppier and faster. Very good song imo, I like it. Bloodstream sounds interesting. I definitely do like it. Vocals in some part is too reminiscent of Closer though. Would like it more if instead of the shorter sounds in the chorus there was a longer more sustained sound, you know, in having more of a synthpop feel. I feel that's a big thing that pop music misses nowadays, especially with Chainsmokers music (Closer and SJLT are other examples) Don't Say has a really good sound in the intro and a few other places.. Great song melodically. F major is an amazing key to make music in, and definitely makes this song more interesting for me. The drop, apart from the beat, sounds unique to me and is IMO great. Overall, good song. SJLT I already know, and I do like it. Surprised even a few Oldplayers like it. Of course there was some backlash, but that was anything but unexpected with a song like this. Seems a bit too similar to Closer and Roses however. The beginning chord progression is the same as Closer, and the drop uses the same beat as well. The last drop is certainly great, wish it was even more atmospheric though. Also wish the melody in the drop didn't start and stop. But oh well. Overall I enjoy it. My Type sounded really great at the beginning. Piano feels a bit too electronic though, as is the case with this album's piano in general. That girl's voice is also way too clean and up front. That's a part of the problem with these guys trying to do songs with piano, the production style with the vocal is too EDMey for the genre. As for the chorus, it's good, but definitely kind of underwhelming, there should be more isynths to make it feel denser, again to give it a more synthpop feel. Also it doesn't feel like it belongs in the song. However, this song is written in a really nice key, B flat if I pick it up correctly, and that is my favorite key with F major second... it's just so amazing and it works great for writing songs that sound like they should be listened to at sunset. It has a sad feel but also kinda happy in a way... It's hard to explain, I'm sure anyone reading knows it. Anyway back to the song itself, overall it's alright but this piano deserves to be in a song in an alternative rock format with different lyrics and a better production style, the re used song would then sound phenomenal. It Won't Kill Ya... again, a great piano intro, but there's too much autotune on the voice. I really like how this song makes you wait for the drop... just when you think it's about to hit, you're left hanging and have to wait around 5 seconds for it. The drop itself isn't that great though, although I do like that voice in the middle. Like the build up as well. Just wish Chainsmokers would stop teasing us with wonderful piano intros then going all electronic... not like they'd make a full blown ballad or anything, it's just annoying that they begin a song with a beautiful piano than take it all away rather quickly. Also, the bridge is really nice. Overall, it's alright. Paris I've also listened to before. Like the intro, but I think it could have evolved into something much more creative...Also, they've already done the "let's make the repetitive catchphrase of the song something other than the title" trick with Closer. It's catchy, overall I like it. Haven't listened to it a whole lot, and I'm going off of what I know. So it may be a bit inaccurate. But oh well. Honest... I don't know what he said at the start, but that echo at the end was interesting. And.. there's that piano again! Gorgeous melody. Meh lyrics though, as usual from the Chainsmokers. Don't like that weird synth though in the beginning, although the second time it's alright.. Seriously, these piano melodies though. Wish they didn't have to be implemented along with the electronic feel of the album... if they were implemented in actual alternative rock songs it would be gorgeous. Overall, a great song melodically, the production isn't great however, and neither is the lyrics. E flat is an amazing key though. Might be my third favorite! Wake Up Alone... Okay, featuring someone who's last name is Aiko? That can't be a coincidence. That's amazing. Just saying. But hey, at least this time they didn't tease us with a great piano intro. The intro sounded a bit weird, but it got better as it went on. If more of these songs didn't have piano in them I might not be as annoyed since I wouldn't see the missed potential in those melodies... But oh well. I do like the synths in the last drop though. I especially applaud them for that end part.though. Never seen that coming. Not the typical one or two instrument fade out they did in their popular singles. Young... beautiful guitar, but no need for that background synth. Once again, I find the vocals too up front. Again, so unfortunate it's replaced with electronic noises in the drop. Vocal melody is great, but the lyrics ain't great. Don't find a real need for that weird robot voice late in the second drop either. Piano throughout sounds nice. The bridge is especially beautiful. For a song that got the most views out of the non singles so far, it's great and I hope it becomes popular, since I do see it as a bit of a step up from what's popular. Really do like the last chorus though. That's what I mean by sustained synths and a synthpop feel... I really wish The Chainsmokers did that more. It seems like they do it more in the bridges. Aaaaand we have the overused one instrument fade out, yet again. They do that way too often. Can see why it's more popular though... seems to be more of a typical Chainsmokers song. Last Day Alive... Ooooh, Florida Georgia Line.. . Remember those guys from their "Cruise". Like the Nelly remix. It's a great song (none of you would prob like it though...) Anyway, the drop is so hot! Sustained synths.... thank you guys! I would really like more of that. Turned it up right when I heard it. Man... this drop though is so amazing. Atmospheric in a way, it just sounds epic and energetic... Needs to be longer though. Sooooo amazing though. Sounds beautiful. Overall, the song sounds unique, especially for these guys..... Woah! A fourth drop? Not something you see often! But something we need here, since it sounds so beautiful and unique... It kinda reminds me of modern day Hedley, but even a bit better. (For those who don't know: A band that once made great music but has unfortunately degraded into making electropop. Their last album has grown on me, but it's still nowhere near what they used to do. Super popular in Canada. Those who don't know music well that live in Canada would have no idea that they are in fact not world famous. Surprising, since they do make the type of music that would surely seem to get them there... Too sad they hardly reach outside of Canada. :() Anyway, you get my point.... IMO it's probably the best drop of the album. Only problem is it wouldn't be my choice for album closer... I personally think The One would be the best choice, but I don't think there's a true album closer in this album unfortunately. Overall thoughts on first listen: I think it's a good album. Definitely nowhere near as genius as Viva or any album like that, but I do like it. Melody wise, these guys did a fantastic job. Enjoyed some of the vocal melodies and definitely the piano melodies, and the guitar in Young.... It's too bad they had to be used along with the electronic elements of this though. Would have worked much better in actual alternative rock songs, as mentioned a few times up above. These guys do need to improve their production though. Vocals seem way too up front when there is piano, meanwhile it works well in pop EDM music, which is what they're supposed to be doing... It just is unfortunate that these beautiful melodies had to be used in these types of songs, I mean I'm not bashing this type of music since there definitely is a right way to make it sound really good but unfortunately teasing us with piano won't do the trick. And yes, there is again a riight way to implement piano and make it sound great, but opening it with a piano ballad feel and then switching to this other style of music doesn't work the best for me. Oh well, I still do like those songs. Just... there is much more potential in it I feel that hasn't been revealed... I know these guys would never be the type to do alternative but seriously these songs would sound great in an alt rock style.. Okay yes I know I'm saying that way too much now lol. Anyway, this album seemed to go by so fast... Not sure if it was the flow of the album, which is great except for the opener and closer, they should have picked something else for those two, or if it was the songs themselves... It says almost 45 minutes this album, but it seemed to go by in 20... I know I did skip two tracks because I already know them but still. But I think there's also something different about these songs that feels off... I know the lyrics definitely aren't the best but it almost seems undercooked, like some songs aren't completely finished yet. Sure, there are some unique moments in here but still something doesn't seem quite right.... Oh well. It's their debut album, and even though they have had since 2014 to evolve their sound a bit (and as we've heard it just got more generic amd similar) we should give them a break and wait and see what they'll do. I know this isn't the style of music most people like on here, so there will be some dislike understandably. But these are thoughts from a person who likes a very large range of music, including the Chainsmokers so I'm giving as most unbiased thoughts here as possible. Not a great first outing, but good. Excited to see what these guys do in the future. And yes, I know. This group is probably directed at teens judging from the lyrics, but still. I'll follow these guys throughout their musical career and see what they'll do. Maybe they'll grow up a bit more, who knows. We'll see. Oh, and one more thing. I can definitely hear the Coldplay influence. Somewhat in their melodies, and in the use of piano. Definitely very melodic, I think that's The Chainsmokers' strong point for sure. I do think I read something about these guys seeking to use piano in their never works and I guess this is what we got out of it. It's understandable that it sounds a bit off, I mean I do applaud them for trying something new, you know. They might get the hang of a better sound eventually, but they're still discovering this new world to them, and it's no surprise it sounds this was as they do come from an electronic background. Oh well. Okay, now I'm done.
  9. Any Coldplay song done with this artist will be absolutely fantastic. Too bad that probably won't happen, as you said... This is part of the problem with pop music nowadays. Not necessarily that it's bad (although some pop songs are definitely not very good) but the same old tricks keep being used, and as a result "new" songs feel too similar to older ones, and don't end up feeling as fresh. Random rant about the Chainsmokers and how their music relates to this whole discussion, skip if you feel like it. (One of the most obvious examples today? The Chainsmokers. Since Closer a lot of their songs have been using either the 3 chord trick increasing then falling (beginning of Closer is an example, they also used this in a different key on SJLT), the Roses beat for the chorus (also present in SJLT), a certain song structure which is The Chainsmoker's twist on verse-chorus except the bridge repeats the catchphrase of the song (do do do's in SJLT) over and over again until the final chorus which is richer in sound and features more instruments like extra strings in Closer or the guitar in SJLT. This is present in Paris. I've also noticed for certain Chainsmokers songs another one of the trends being the fact that the title is said in the song but the catchphrase that everyone remembers really well is the true focus of the song ("we ain't ever getting older" in Closer, "let's show them we are better" in Paris). Last one I'll mention is their new song "The One". It's a great first attempt at a piano ballad for them, but it sounds wayyyyy too clean and the chords are nice, but it just feels generic... those chords have been used way too often in ballads I feel even though they're nice, and in this song it just feels kinda generic and definitely predictable. Production wise, IMO piano ballads need to have a warm organic feel to them, and as we all know The Chainsmokers produce mainly electronic music which tends to have a cleaner sound to it. When this squeaky clean "perfect" production style is applied to piano ballads, it ends up making them feel manufactured almost, which is the case for "The One". Anyway, random Chainsmokers rant over) The piano loop trick is an example, although less annoying than some others. I really like the "piano loop" tracks and it's always an easy way to make a really good track but would like to see more diverse songs like the ones you mentioned as well.
  10. Nice find, the studio version I found had Violet Hill Instrumental at the end of it. Interesting, hopefully not from someone too pop oriented... This is the question we should be asking because we never know. I mean, they collabed with The Chainsmokers and Beyonce, so much more is possible than before that could be sub par choice. Don't worry too much. I think it'll be fine. Key word. usually. Faultline collab. Ron Sexsmith. And Tove Lo on Fun. Noel Gallagher was a great idea on Up&Up. I personally like PoC, and while HFTW is definitely not a masterpiece and many of the older fans despise it I like it a bit. That's probably the worst of the Coldplay side of collabs that has been done. By this I mean songs that Coldplay released, we know of the horrendus True Believer by Avicii where the vocals aren't even CM but there was a version done or something that did have him on it. And of course Avicii had to do with Coldplay's ASFOS. I wish Coldplay would work with Jon Hopkins again. One of the most unique and greatest artists of our time. Viva era was really good for working with people like that, I mean Brian Eno was producer. Funny how they went from that to Rihanna in the next album, Avicii next (with Jon Hopkins involved in that same album!) and Stargate as producer 3 albums later with Beyonce and Tove Lo on the album. (And then various other artists playing smaller parts) Coldplay collabs to me are rather interesting... I did talk a bit about more or less who they worked with in terms of production but still fun to think about
  11. I want and I need more of this!! This sounds like a masterpiece already. As @I ran away mentioned once the rest of the band joins in (if they do) this song will be even better and will have such a beautiful vibe to it. Definitely sounds like some Oldplay style material here and I'm sure more than one of us would be very happy to hear it. If this song is in fact the album opener than just like Fun this will be the complete opposite of what I expected. That title sounds like the next big pop hit, maybe that won't be the case!
  12. 10pm is fine by me too :) Is 3pm where I live
  13. Oh and also due to changing circumstances I have updated my times, I am now able to make both of the most popular times. And sure I'm good if we have a break
  14. I don't have it
  15. Nice find! Unfortunately would be hard to put into the studio version...
  16. I really hope someone manages to make an edited version of UATW that has this extra section in it... That would be a really awesome idea.... Is there a recorded version of this other time they did it that you speak of? Would be interesting to hear. It's really interesting to see how songs like UATW progress over time. It seems like for certain songs like these the evolution never ends for them, even after they're officially released there can be changes in the live performance. I know chances are slim, but it would be epic if the band released an extended studio version of UATW with these lyrics so it doesn't have to sound a little off, I mean there's only so much we can do with editing programs. But I'm sure if that doesn't happen someone will find a way to not make it sound too off and edit this in :D
