  1. :laugh3: My story is far less exciting, unfortunately. But I was arrested for "hindering an officer", because I supposedly picked my brother up from a party where there was underage drinking, and the cops were in the process of arresting him. When the cop cuffed me, he said I was being arrested for "obstruction of justice", at which point I thought to myself, "Holy shit, isn't that what they charged Scooter Libby with?" :D I guess the judge reviewed the charge and corrected the cop, because if you look up "obstruction of justice" on Wikipedia you can see that the only way to be charged with that is if you're a government official, and I'm just a citizen.
  2. Fantastic FDR video. Nick, next time you get a chance pop online, I've got a cool story to tell you. (I was in jail these past few days for a crime I didn't commit...)
  3. Nope, I saw it submitted to Digg.com! I hope this thing goes viral...
  4. Nick, I'm sure you're gonna love this as much as I did: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmKHUUkhkzM]YouTube - White House Press Secretary Defiles The Office of The President[/ame]
  5. I hate when I find an awesome shirt or jeans on the discount rack, and when they scan it in the computer it turns out it's not on sale and it's like $700,000 or something ridiculous like that.
  6. More Chris Evans, cause I can't get enough of this guy:
  7. Dang! My home cost £400,001. I guess I'm out of a house, now! Governments make the dumbest arbitrary rules.
  8. Dude we should totally go! We could get it sponsored by Adagio.com and the Mises Institute for Children Who Can't Read Good and Who Want to Learn to Do Other Stuff Good Too.
  9. America is only really good at blowing stuff up, so sorry, you're out of luck this time! ;)
  10. Timon! Where's Pumba? Here's another cute picture: http://www.indyzoo.com/pdf/DolphinDog-PaulRiley.jpg
  11. Rick Santelli is my hero! I loved that guy even before I knew he was a libertarian. I've never seen someone get so excited about something as mundane as Treasury bonds! :laugh3:
  12. There are two very silly things in this world: clowns, and central banks.
  13. http://www.newsday.com/news/politics/wire/sns-ap-ubs-secrets,0,3291173,print.story Here's another interesting story I saw on DrudgeReport. It looks like the IRS is stepping up it's efforts to find tax cheats. When you're running trillion-dollar deficits, every little bit helps, I suppose. My sympathies lie with the "cheats", and I'll go on record saying it's quite a noble thing to do to hide your money from the government. Go Switzerland! They make good cheese, too.
  14. 6 Year Low in the DOW! Our GLORIOUS LEADER will surely summon the strength of the Proletariat, combined with the shrewdness of corporate welfare and the tenacity of the printing press... to overcome any perceived weakness America might have! In fact, it would not surprise me if this was just a trick, to fool America's enemies into believing we are unfit to fight! Their comeuppance will be swift!
  15. And the inflation starts... http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Wholesale-inflation-takes-apf-14410311.html Just like they've done in the past, so many times! :laugh3: This is going to get REALLY bad. I was flipping through the channels last night and I settled on Jim Cramer (even though I find him obnoxious) because I heard him talking about Warren Buffett's recent comments about "buying American" and investing in American businesses. Apparently Buffett had been calling for people to go out and buy US stocks, but his SEC filings showed he was actually selling huge amounts. And these aren't just little businesses here and there, we're talking Johnson & Johnson, Proctor & Gamble, GE, the big names. Buffett secretly thinks America is going down the crapper and he's not willing to say it.
  16. You're probably right on this... the government is wary of people getting mad about their evaporating retirement accounts, and you can only place so much blame on the evil capitalists before that little ruse begins to wear thin. So use a little magic dust to prop up the price of stocks to create the illusion of wealth! I imagine our dear leaders probably have contingency plans in place - freezing trading, creating fake buying pressure with offshore funds that appear to be foreign-owned but are in fact financed and operated by the US government... Nick, you sent me on another conspiratorial tangent. I couldn't help myself. It's too easy!
  17. Hm, maybe they know the Fed will raise interest rates soon... or that other currencies are so weak on a relative basis that it makes sense to hold dollars in the short term. Either way it sounds like a trade, not an investment strategy.
  18. *swoon* Say more anti-social stuff! It's dead sexy. :D
  19. Still going down... And Obama hasn't even signed the bill into law yet! :D Nick, I wish your "false rally" theory were true so we could at least make a little money from this volatility, but so far it looks like the market has made up its mind! EDIT: And talk of bank nationalization begins in earnest: http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/2ad3b750-fd27-11dd-a103-000077b07658.html?nclick_check=1 DOW finishes the day near a ten year low, losing 4% in trading hours. Looks like the market has registered its opinion of the future of America's economy under Obama's stewardship. Obama talks about increasing the number of troops in Afghanistan. +17,000. US Automakers want more taxpayer money - $35 bn. All-in-all, a good day!
  20. http://www.news.com.au/perthnow/story/0,21598,24659589-5005369,00.html Aha! Now we see the politicians are coming to the rescue, just as I predicted. A new tax will solve our problems!
  21. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/7839361.stm Here's a more recent chart. And Bart is right, we should draft young men into the military to artificially lower the unemployment numbers! And pay them with printed money.
  22. The real unemployment rate is typically much higher, because governments want to make themselves look good.
  23. Why on Earth are these guys claiming they're the dad?! They should be embarrassed to admit they slept with that skank! Plus they should want to avoid the possible child-support they'd have to pay. Chavs' minds work in mysterious ways.
  24. Here's a new tradition men should start: women ask men to marry them, and instead of using a ring, they give him a Ferarri or Porsche! I'm sure Jeremy Clarkson could get behind that.
