  1. And don't even get me started on wedding rings! Diamonds are practically as common as salt, but De Beers inflates the prices so young men get screwed into putting down two months of their income on one. Cubic Zirconium FTW!
  2. Arg, this article is riddled with false assumptions about causality. Where to begin? 1. Average cost of a wedding is 20,000 pounds, and that's what keeping you from getting married? Last I checked, one of the vows you say while you're getting married is "for richer for poorer". Sounds like the participants don't actually believe in that, at least when it comes to having their fairy-tale wedding day. 2. "Marriage" (in the eyes of the law, anyway) is just a legal contract that is basically the man saying to the woman: "I love you so much, I'm willing to sign a contract saying that if we ever decide to split up, you can keep at least half of my stuff." It's really a dorky thing to do, but everybody does it so you should too! Otherwise society will fall apart. 3. Then we get to the thing where governments reward you for getting married. You're treated better by the tax code! Basically what I'm saying is, marriage has always just been about money. There isn't any less love in the world these days than there was 20 years ago, just more lawyers and politicians - and smarter young couples.
  3. If I end up going to Hell, I'm going to blame it on this thread. We're all ganging up on this girl because of how fugly she is! :laugh3:
  4. The baby is probably going to grow up to be like... Albert Einstein 2 or something. :laugh3: It could be turned into a made-for-TV movie called "Two Wrongs Make a Right".
  5. What the heck, lol. *shudder*
  6. Umm... not to sound conspiratorial, but it almost sounds like that would be the perfect way to get revenge on an enemy - frame him for wildfires and child porn. He'd be the most hated man in Australia. Sounds a little too good to be true!
  7. There needs to be a DNA test done. Honestly I don't think that boy is the father. I don't even think he's 13. And why don't they just give the baby up for adoption? It's all so strange... there must be something we don't know.
  8. That girl looks like a cross between Shrek and Gollum.

  10. I'm ready for Valentine's Day to be over and it's not even here yet. Obviously my oxytocin levels aren't high enough.
  11. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Stocks-tumble-after-govt-apf-14314444.html Every time Tim Geithner's mouth opens the market falls or international relations with trade partners become strained. This is like watching a comedy of errors. EDIT: I'm adding a link to another interesting chart, I'm not sure how accurate it is though: http://timeswampland.files.wordpress.com/2009/02/joblosses26091.gif

  13. Well that whole circumcision thing kinda sucks, too. What is it with people always trying to screw with the meat & two veg?? :laugh3:
  14. Well it would have happened sooner or later... you can't have hot summers and a lot of dry kindle sitting around for years and years without a wildfire occurring eventually. I just hope this isn't turned into some rallying cry for a new tax to combat "global warming" or whatever. And it's about time we get those terrible 4 year olds off the streets... they should be locked away forever! EDIT:  He's milking this tragedy for all it's worth.
  15. Wildfires are a natural part of the ecosystem, and necessary to prevent the buildup of a lot of brush. Kevin Rudd's government is preparing to get vindictive over deaths that were basically accidents.
  16. Wildfires are actually a good thing, sometimes, because they thin out the brush that has accumulated over time. Still, the deaths are terribly sad. Australia's king is being an irresponsible idiot for comparing this to terrorism. A lot of good his government did protecting its people!
  17. First there was that woman who carved her name in the guy's shoulder, and now this... I'm pretty sure this is why God invented cats.

  19. I think the effect will be instantly negative, especially on the bond markets. If the stock markets were rallying now, I could understand the belief this will help the economy right away, but they're not. Traders are wary of the spending. Either way it'll be awesome. Like I said above, I feel like I'm back in the Physics lab with my professor setting up an experiment! :P
  20. I just wish they'd go ahead and get the damn thing passed so we can watch it's effect on the economy. I'm sick of this political bull, like suddenly the Republicans give a sh!t about how much money the federal government spends. :laugh3: Someone should set up a website tracking every dollar and where it goes. This will be a fun experiment, akin to watching a drop of red dye slowly diffuse through a glass of water. I've been waiting for socialism to be put to the test in virtual laboratory conditions.

Never see the movie "My Best Friend's Girl". Absolutely horrible.
  22. Aussies have had a really hot summer and this is yet another reason you guys must be looking forward to fall.
  23. This is the Bush administration on steroids. The question is, as the economy gets worse, will the public's support of Obama increase or decrease? If history is any indication it will increase and his policies will become more extreme.
