High Speed and A Whisper are both awesome tracks! And I disagree with the sentiment here from most people... it's probably healthier to have a moderate skepticism about how good this album is going to be, that way you'll be pleasantly surprised. A wise professor once said, "The key to happiness is low expectations." In our modern society, we want everything to be perfect or we're unhappy. Instead, we should approach life like a child (for whom everything is new and different). I remember the first time I listened to X&Y and I was so critical of it because I was carefully picking it apart in my mind as I heard each song, and comparing to to the other albums. This time I'll just give VLVODAAHF a passive go-through where I'm dividing my attention between it and something else... if the album is any good I'll know.

I watch the Live 2003 shows on the DVD and wish I had been there so bad... The atmosphere was so perfect and the set list was phenomenal.

It's possible they could be worth that much, particularly if they invested wisely and have iron-clad pre-nups. Wealthy people are called "accredited investors" which gives them the legal right to invest in far riskier (and far more rewarding) things than average Joes. While your mutual fund probably returns 10% a year on average, a decent hedge fund can return anywhere from 30% a year to 80% fairly consistently. So done right, they could be doubling their money every 2 to 3 years. Not bad.

As a whole I think X&Y does get unfairly knocked. But there are some songs on it that I just never listen to, and don't inspire me emotionally. Maybe they've got a good hook (pretty much everything Chris Martin & Co. come up with have awesome hooks) but the lyrics and production are lacking. I hope this next album sounds bohemian with tons of different influences and noises you don't hear every day - the kind of thing Brian Eno would encourage. More emphasis should be placed on the lyrics, too.

"Star Wars" would make for a cool band name but I just Googled it and I think it's already taken.

Bands like Coldplay sort of roll off the tongue. Of the ones you mentioned Pilotview is the best, though... it conjures a mental image of a high altitude horizon or something pretty.
