1. I don't go and see Coldplay anymore and have no wish to see them on their next tour. Sad as I used to follow them on tour in the mid 2000s.
2. I do wonder how much of AHFOD direction was influenced by the record label wanting a big hit. The surprise release of the Birds video I've no doubt is to boost flagging sales in the UK.
3. I wish Coldplay would to take inspiration from a real innovator like David Bowie and go totally left field.
4. Have to disagree, I find them very "dull" these days. The music in the main is just structurally poor, bland and boring to my ears. All the other multicoloured stuff is just gloss.
5. True, although my wife usually tracks every move I make!
6. Does anyone else feel like a whale after Christmas and New Year?!
7. Yeah, I agree. The start is quite catchy but it decends into an average song at best. Really doesn't go anywhere and lacks a lot.
8. So I was listening to the Radiohead James Bond theme earlier today (wow, what a track) and this to me really shows whats involved in interesting music, it's quite dissonant and there's so much going on in it, you could listen to it a hundred times over and hear something new in it each time. Coldplay used to write interesting melodies with strange chord structures which were sonically great also like thjs. I just can't believe they've now gone in completely the opposite direction and are now giving us generic songs with such dull structure that gets boring after a few spins. It's a complete devolution of songwriting.

Yeah, I agree their output has declined a bit in the past 10 years. I've not seen a better band live ever however, they're just on another level to everyone else, difficult to explain unless you've experienced it. On this tour I've been 5 times (and spent a silly amount of money) and it's been good but not as good as the Zoo TV tour which was their pinnacle I would say (the first of their tours I went to). They've always had massive audience and multimedia involvement, the hanging/ swinging trabant cars on stage on the Zoo TV tour, Dana Carvey playing the drums on screens with them on that tour etc etc and they've always had audience members on stage. But yeah, if you've not seen them live before I'd put it on your bucket list, they're raw and energetic and just something else :-)

Hmmmmm, U2 kind of invented the multimedia "connecting with fans" stuff. Zoo TV, Pop tour, Bono jumping into the crowd and bringing fans on stage during concerts in the 80s. It did make a big comeback on this tour though as they'd kind of stopped it to an extent during the 360 shows.

So, so difficult my favourites change all the time. I've been back listening to their early stuff (which is just amazing) so for now from their first 3 or 4 albums it's. My top 14 (hehe)... I Will Follow Electric Co An Cat Dubh I Fall Down (just discovered this one and it's really great, sounds like early Coldplay). Seconds New Years Day Gloria Unforgettable Fire 40 Bad Pride A Sort of Homecoming Sunday Bloody Sunday Out of Control That's just from their earliest stuff but their back catalogue is just crazy good. 12. The solo in True Love is dissonant, off the top of my head, I can't think of any others at the moment..... Oh, AROBTTH is another.
13. You should listen to the U2 back catalogue, there's a heck of a lot of stunning stuff in there right back to their earliest albums. Almost 40years they've been going and you can hear the influence they've had on various bands and music of their era. Much of early Coldplay can be traced to U2, piano with guitar sounds New Years Day or I Fall Down by U2 are good examples. Just a shame Bono is a bit of a knob as I feel it takes away from their legacy as a lot of people don't like them because of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyZrcyfxypc Mobile Link: https://youtu.be/tyZrcyfxypc
14. Chris is soooooooooo hunky, look at his muscles and colourful t-shirt!!!!! chrisizlifexxxx
15. Wow,10mins?! Kind of makes sense considering the quality of the song. Asking for requests is also pretty lazy. I really do wish Chris would pick up his game, I wonder how much the drop in quality is caused by being lazy and complacent.
16. Why are you on the Oldplayer thread?!?! Anyway, enjoy your dull music and Merry Christmas :-)
