Just cant agree at all, I hear nothing in it. There's no craft or anything special in it. Aside from XMTS to me it's the worst Coldplay song I've ever heard. It makes me cringe when I hear it.

I think the melodies have gone downhill quite rapidly also. I also think Amazing Day is a terrible song which would have fallen badly pre 2008. It's boring saccharin Coldplay by numbers.

I agree. What I would say is that If they want to make an experimental album, make a full experimental album, don't put 1 or 2 types of differing songs all over 1 album. Keep a theme to the whole thing and keep it coherent.

Chris still at times writes good hooks and melodies, AHFOD and U&U are catchy. The piano part in Everglow is nice but the song structure is poor and it's Coldplay by numbers in the end. Amazing Day is so bland Coldplay by numbers mixed with a terrible sugar coated production, Fun and Birds are nice but they're basic, average songs. I just don't hear much true creativity at all in the new album. There's so many things wrong with the album but ultimately I think Chris is just going through a dry writing period mixed with some strange production decisions which are perhaps driven by the fact he knows he's struggling with creativity.

If Coldplay evolved and still had good melodies and songs whilst using new production methods then that's great. The problem is the basic songwriting and melodies have gone and what's left is at the heart of all the multilayered production is poor songwriting. You can't hide the fact that the basic songs just aren't there in the latest Coldplay music. I'm not saying it won't come back but at the moment it's gone.

Such a terrible video. Artistically because of the motion capture great but as a Coldplay music video it's terrible, the dancing, handiclapping monkeys and the Beats pill in it.... Urgghhhh horrible.

There's nothing wrong with pop music as long as it's good and creative. I actually think that Bruno Mars/Mark Ronson track from earlier this year for example was really great. It was a great catchy pop tune and did everything a good pop track should. Most of the stuff being mention here is bland and banal and in fact most of the tracks on the new album are bland and banal and do absolutely nothing creatively.

Best digging about all the albums that Coldplay drew influences from around that period. Anyway, I'm away to listen to some Kanye to get up with good modern music!

That is brutally bad.

They produce songs noone will listen to in 10-20years time. Radio friendly chart fodder that has no depth. VLV for example has amazing depth and you can find new, good things in it over and over again. The bands Coldplay drew on initially have that depth about their music. Why is Chris wanting to take his band into radio friendly bland music territory that noone will be interested in 5 years down the line? It's a mind blowing decision from him especially when you know the talent he has.

A good artist with a good ear? Are you joking? His songwriters are talented for getting him to where he is but he's a joke. People praising this album need to go away and listen to good music and the bands Coldplay originally got their influences from. This album is a mess.

Even the two or three decent songs are ruined by dreadful production. Bring the great guitar solos to the front on Up & Up, don't muffle them away in the mix. Don't have stupid drum synths for the sake of trying to be different and "new" sounding.

Trying to chase the top. It's failing miserably. Amazing Day is so horrible like a clichéd old Coldplay by numbers Christmas song that has no invention, craft or anything. I cant bare to listen to it.

Why are they jumping around as Monkeys in a CGI video for AOAL? It's embarrassing for the band now. I really don't know what's happened to this (used to be great) band.

Man, AHFOD is such a disappointment. The songs apart from a few are poor, the production is bad and it's just a bad album. What's going on Chris?!

I've even met Chris and the band and followed them around touring I really dislike and am disappointed by the album but I'm still a massive fan.

What's the deal with the Fun production also? It sounds awful like sugar coated crap. The vocal arrangement is horrible too. Makes me wince when I hear it.

Which is very strange because I think the album is very, very poor I don't know how anyone could see it as anything else. I guess it's all personal preference at the end of the day.
