  1. The lyrics are embarrassing for CM. I can't think what possessed him to think they're acceptable, same with the "drunk and high" lyrics and the "Turn Your Magic On". A heck of a lot of the album has cringe worthy lyrics which make it difficult to listen to and I can generally gloss over the lyrics if the music is good but not on AHFOD.
  2. Nailed it.... http://drownedinsound.com/releases/19154/reviews/4149648
  3. Put ma hands up to the skai ah feelin laike Got a rocket ship that ah wanna ride!
  4. Just as an aside, U2 are by far the best live band in the world. Noone even comes close to them. I've seen them 8 times since 1992 and every time you're completely blown away. Coldplay (until the MX tour) for me were a distant second best live band in the world.
  5. You're 10?! Fair enough, I thought you were in your 20s or something. Discotheque is a dance type song, it's probably U2s most comparable song to what Coldplay are churning out these days and probably not U2s finest moment but it's more rock influenced dance than cheesy HFTW, XMTS, AD, Fun etc etc. Someone above said there are about 3 dance type songs on Pop, the rest of the album is heavy and not at all cheesy pop, which most of AHFOD is. Mofo from Pop for example is more Chemical Brothers like and so is Miami, the Chemical Brothers were never mainstream cheesy pop, more niche dance. Another example of this would be Noel Gallaghers collaborations with the Chemical Brothers, Setting Sun and Let Forever Be, heavy dance type songs with rock influences, a million miles from AHFOD.
  6. That's just nonsense. I would've said Coldplay up to MX could have to gone on to U2s musical heights. Since then they've fallen so badly. They might make another amazing album at some point but their output at the moment is shockingly bad. Covering up poor music with production and video gimmicks is exactly what they're doing. Also, the fact the U2s Pop album isn't actually pop isn't opinion, it's fact. Go and listen to it again, there are dance production elements to it but it's not at Coldplays current levels of cheesy pop output. U2s Pop album is actually quite heavy.
  7. None of the above, he just doesn't write good music anymore. That's all.
  8. Pop by U2 definitely doesn't have a mainstream pop sound and didn't back in the 90s, it tried to go into dance territory on some songs but 90% of the time didn't.
  9. I'm struggling to hear them under the layers of production "noise".
  10. It would be nice if the rest of the band came back for LP8, they're non existent in LP7. It's like CM feat. electronic sounds and special guests.
  11. The sales difference from GS to AHFOD is big, that's a lot of sales to lose in the space of a year.
  12. First Week Sales, AHFOD sales to date. Looking like the lowest selling first week sales, don't see it catching up with GS sales in the days left, too much to catch up with. VLV = 700k MX = 447k Ghost Stories = 383k AFHOD = 190k
  13. Hey oldplayers (real music experts). So I listened to the new album for a few days solid last week then haven't since or felt the want to. I went back and listened to it today and there was something about the songs I thought I liked, AHFOD, U&U, Everglow and Birds, they sound totally "off". ok, the rest of the album is poor songs and production but why do the good songs not actually sound enjoyable? Is it the mix and production or is there something else? Very sad but I could delete the full album, never listen to it again and not even care, when I listen to all the classics on the oldplayers music thread, the difference in quality is so striking!
  14. U2 live (and on record) are just incredible, I've never failed to be blown away by them. They're head and shoulders above any band I've seen live (and I've seen a lot) . It's hard to explain until you experience one of their concerts, they just have such a raw energy and spirit on stage and it's totally uplifting.
  15. I just can't get into, just feels so forced and it's like a parody of Coldplay. It's just not that good a song either. Honestly think it's the worst Coldplay song I've heard, worse than XMTS.
  16. Yeah it does sound like a Christmas song but it's just so syrupy and horrible and I can hardly listen to it. Its so Coldplay by numbers with little or no craft or invention, yuk. Christmas Lights is 100 times better.
  17. I'm with you, it's a horrible, clichéd, cheesy song. One of the worst Coldplay songs I've heard.
  18. Good article, there's little difference between Adele, Ed Sheeran and Coldplay these days, all quite bland and manufactured for the mainstream and aimed at the mass audience. A sad state of affairs for the music industry and sad that Coldplay have decided to go in this direction.
  19. Most of the band are drowned under the production and you can barely here them. It sounds a lot like a Chris Martin solo album.
