Tell me something about coldplay
Ever wondered if Coldplay will be as popular and looked at as legendary 15 years from now the way U2 is now?
-
So... the "Best of Coldplay" CD...
or we can make a nice two disk set of all the best, since not all the songs are best of material (SITS is kinda crap, and green eyes, etc.) plus we could make a bonus disk with b-sides. or we could just wait for coldplay to make more music thatn ten times better than anything they've made in years. if they are supposedly the next U2, they still haven't even made their Joshua Tree. but if they're going to be the next oasis, they should quit while they're ahead, because their Morning Glory has already came and went with the AROBTTH era. either way, i'm tired of these best of threads. just enjoy the individual albums, people!

U2
The funny thing is that most people who don't like U2 didn't really like X&Y as far as my observations show. But then again, people who love U2 also thought of it as a bust.

The Oasis Thread
I don't know. Oasis are definitely the kind of band I would like. I heard live forever, cigarettes and alcohol, stand by me, the importance of being idle, lyla, rock and roll star, and a few others. But none of them I really liked that much aside from the other two. It all sounds really hazy and annoying. But I guess if you guys can see beyond all that, maybe they do have some talent. But in my opinion, they're really overrated and if anything, their sophomore album was somewhat of a fluke.

The Oasis Thread
I personally think Oasis isn't as great as everyone says. I honestly did try to get into them and listened to them with an open mind, but unfortunately they have only two good songs: Wonderwall and Morning Glory. And they truly are extremely cokcy bastards.....well the two brothers anyway. Oasis are dead. They've been dead for almost a decade. Even the Rolling Stones have more life in their music right now. And they've been makng music since the Beatles.

Incubus
"Further down the river...." These guys will never get the recognition they deserve.

The best albums of the last 60 years.
Silverion, if this is worldwide we're talking about, then lemme burst your bubble. Linkin Park's "Hybrid Theory" has sold around 17 million copies worldwide. And I'm pretty sure other albums of this millenium have done even better. But if you're talking about USA only, then mention it when you post these stats. Because America is not the world.

U2
U2 have a lot of good albums. The Joshua Tree deserves all the acclaim it got, but it's far from their best. War was easily their first great album and 40 is probably my favourite song by them, but (I know you might find this as a bit of a surprise) I think that nothing ever compares to All That You Can't Leave Behind. Nobody said a comeback album can't be an artist's best, and it's true for U2. Most people think the only good song on there is Beautiful Day, but pretty much the whole album is stock full of singles. Stuck In A Moment is a really good ballad, Elevation is another great rocker, and the whole album proceeds in this manner, one good song after another climaxed by New York.

I talk shit about Coldplay
danielle, i truly feel what you feel about being mocked because of coldplay...but not just coldplay, u2. in my art class, since it is at an advanced level(college level, i get college credits for taking it) we are allowed to do what we want, so to ispire myself, i bring music. as many of you can imagine, coldplay is a big part of my life so i listen to them. in this class we are assigned in groups, and the people in my group, as soon as they got hold of my ipod(those nosy bastards) just to see what my musical taste was..they were impressed by my huge coldplay collection, and my u2 collection as well(not as big). they started commeting on that movie 40 year old virgin, saying how chris is a crackhead because he is too happy, how their music is nonsense and that MTF is just a publicity stunt. they also said that u2 should retire and coldplay should do the same early. now everytime i see them, although i hang out with them all, they always slip a comment of being a "save the earth" followers, mocking me for liking bands that actually care for this world and those who live in. sorry if i wrote to much...i just needed to say how much it angers me people taling shit about coldplay. no other band in this world is as criticized nowdays...   Yes, there are so many more. Linkin Park are definitely more hated than Coldplay. So are Staind (mainly by the media, though). So was Creed before they broke up. So was Nirvana, which this messageboard incidentally has a passionate dislike for. And many other "overrated", "overplayed", "talentless" bands who just so happen to make great music ehich may not be to everyone's satisfaction. If you don't like a band, don't slam them unless people ask you if you like 'em or not.

Which song sounds most "U2ish" to you?
Forget Coldplay sounding like U2. City Of Clinding Lights sounds like it could have beet penned down my Chris and Johnny. And considering it was made in 2004.....I think the influence goes the other way here. :P

Which song sounds most "U2ish" to you?
 I was going to start a topic just like this! Oh well, I guess I'll just add to it. White Shadows is very U2-ish. It's extremely reminiscent of New Years Day, with a little bit of Where The Streets Have No Name at the end. Moses sounds a lot like In God's Country as well.

Your least favourite Coldplay song
For all you fans who like hardcore Coldplay, lemme tell you this straight up. There is a REASON why Green Eyes and A Whisper were put on A Rush Of Blood To The Head. To give it VARIETY. My least favourite Coldplay song is Swallowed In The Sea. You know why? Because it's one of the main reasons why I don't like X&Y as much as I would have. Coldplay made a hell of a great album. Only problem? They made a few mistakes. Mistake #1: even making SPEED OF SOUND in the first place, let alone making it the first single after three years of hearing CLOCKS on the radio. Mistake #2: Making Fix You the second single off the album. This was supposed to be the grand finale. The next Clocks. Intead it's become an absolute bust. (Debuting at number four on the singles charts? Come on, this is Coldplay we're talking about!). At the very least, as the Cokemachineglow review nicely points out, it should have been saved for the holidays. Great music. Bad decision-making. And finally, mistake #3: Swallowed In The Sea. It sounds so much like Fix You, only less touching and way shittier lyrics. Some variety, huh? I love Coldplay, and if you don't want to try and listen to their more experimental music, how can you say they're not putting any effort doing so? You're the one who should do a bit more exploring on their CDs, and then you'll learn to love them a bit more.

Cokemachineglow X&Y review (not for the faint-hearted)..
Yeah, I'm kind of getting bored of the album myself. *starts listening to "Sheep"*

The Sun: Sex & Y
"Some get made and some get sent" Chris is talking about eggs.

Best 4 albums of the year
No good albums this century? Try Parachutes and AROBTTH for starters. That's something we can all agree on. Now let's get deeper in. Hybrid Theory (Linkin Park), A Crow Left Of The Murder (Incubus), Break The Cycle (Staind), One Day Remains (Alter Bridge), and The Green Album (Weezer) are a few of my faves. As for this year, X&Y and Staind's new album, Chapter V, have been standouts. But Billy Talent's new album shouldn't disappoint either. A lot of people here are still living in the days of the Beatles. They're awesome musicians. But put in some stuff a little closer to this day and age too. You'd be surprised how much new talent there is out there.

Videos : fix You vs Speed of Sound
Fix You is better. Both vids are lame (all CP ones are actually), but Fix You's scene at the bridge when he's swinging the cable is magnificent. Everything up to that is a ripoff of U2's SYCMIOYN.

10 reasons Coldplay rules
Hey why don't we do a list like this for the Beatles, or U2? And let's put 100 reasons for them, cuz they're ten times better.
-
The Sun: Sex & Y
Easy To Please? Sparks? Shiver? High Speed? Such A Rush? AMSTERDAM???
-
10 reasons Coldplay rules
Most of these reasons have absolutely nothing to do with the actual anthems themselves. :/ And who the hell puts "amazing music" at number 4???
-
The Sun: Sex & Y
Chris just keeps saying stupider things every day. It's no surprise almost everyone in America hates him....
-
and the 3rd single is...
If Swallowed In The Sea is the next single, I'm going to throw out my X&Y CD.
-
and the 3rd single is...
You know what this means, right? If they release Talk as a single on the 23rd of January, it squashes any possibility of there being a new album by the next leg of their tour. And will people just give it a rest about Square One? If it ever was a single, it would have been the first! Besides, it's not really radio-friendly anyway. People would think it's too repetitive, and that would definitely help them in this time of backlash, wouldn't it?
