  1. Yay, happy birthday Parachutes! :nice: I can barely believe it's been 10 years. :stunned: I remember when I first got Parachutes (after robtth) when it was on sale at a local music store. I had only heard Yellow and Trouble, but I decided to give it a try. Shiver blew my mind. I ended up talking to my brother online and told him about how I had bought it and how amazing Shiver was (this was the days before I had annoyed him into not liking them :embarrassed:) and he was really, really confused. It took me a while to figure out that he was also talking to my best friend, who had also bought Parachutes that day and was also raving at him about how awesome Shiver was, so that he was having trouble figuring out which conversation was which.
  2. *sticks fingers in ears and closes eyes* Don't tell me anything about it! Keep that trailer away! I want to for once in my life see a movie as a blank slate with no expectations, and Nolan is pretty much the only director I trust enough to try that.
  3. Anyone seen this yet? Best fanvid I've ever seen, and very funny (DT era spoilers, obviously) [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dHkbdMYpSA]YouTube- Tenth Doctor: The Musical[/ame] You should probably at least watch the early Moffatt episodes of the season then, before you watch the finale... they are really, really important to what happens, and it might not make much sense without them. --->'The Eleventh Hour', 'Time of Angels', and 'Flesh and Stone' There's a bit of a mystery going on about Amy that will be solved, and the hints are in those 3 episodes. Duck Pond with no ducks, Amy Pond with no....? Don't want to don't have to can't make me.... :snobby: Can't. :uhoh:  Matt Smith's first TV role was a costume drama called "The Ruby in the Smoke" with Billie Piper, and then it's sequel. It's how he got the role on her other show. ...Some would say it may possibly also be how he got the 'Who' audition- wild unsubstantiated rumors time- they may have dated briefly irl a few years ago before she met her current husband. The tabloids managed to dig up old pictures of them holding hands in public anyway, once they suddenly realized who the then-nobody in the pics with her was...
  4. Hmm... don't tell Crests about your favorite TV shows, you'll never be able to keep up with the thread again. :P (I kid, it's good to see it alive. ;)) Have you macro spammers found ihasatardis yet? Years worth of good stuff there... but watch out, some nsfw/slash, and plenty of pure crack. http://community.livejournal.com/ihasatardis/ Some of the old episodes are great, even if they look bad. You have to watch them like a stage play- great actors, some wonderful stories, and occasionally great costumes, but minimal sets and very old very silly effects. The ones with the Third Doctor and Sarah Jane are my favorites, especially 'Planet of the Spiders'. 'Genesis of the Daleks' is the best one I've ever seen, though. Christmas can't come fast enough. :sweatdrop:
  5. Holy Crap! I can`t make my head stop. It`s like the answer to it all is really obvious and right there and I can`t figure out what it is. :bomb: `I`m thick! I`m old and thick! My head`s too small, I need a bigger head!` Aaaahh! WATCH THEM IN ORDER! The season arc this year is MASSIVE and every episode ends up being important in the finale, but you need to watch them in order to get the bigger plot, and that bigger plot is (so far) awesome (and complicated). The 11th hour, The Beast Below, Victory of the Daleks, Time of Angels, Flesh and Stone, Vampires in Venice, Amy`s Choice, The Hungry Earth, Cold Blood, Vincent and the Doctor, The Lodger, The Pandorica Opens, The Big Bang (not aired yet).
  6. Funeral is one of the most beautiful albums in existence, imho. :nice: Neon Bible is very interesting.
  7. I got my wisdom teeth out just before the world cup started. The plan was 1 week home to recover and watch lots of games. But those freaking horns magnify pain by about 10x. :cry2: I`ll always watch England`s games anyway, but I haven`t been able to watch any of the others. :(
  8. Yay! More browncoats! :nice:
  9. Looks like tomorrow's ep is going to be a corker...
  10. Homestar Runner! :D I haven't watched that in aaages. Some of my friends used to be obsessed.
  11. Hey Rosetta! W00t!!! :D And in the top 70. :shocked2: Ace job so far.
  12. Erm... doesn't the DVD come with a cd?
  13. If you get a chance sometime after the results and you don't mind, could I please have a copy of that spreadsheet? It sounds like you're entering and calculating your data differently (and faster) than I do... I'm actually still remarkably satisfied with mine all things considered. But then I also spent months agonizing over it and finally had to accept that not everything would fit. Aw, sorry to hear you won't be around. :(
  14. Yay results! :nice: Thank-you :D If you ignore the order, there's a whole lot of really good stuff on here so far. I'll have to get around to looking up some of the stuff I don't recognize.
  15. Sounds like a textbook form of OCD to me. It isn't about neatness- hoarding is a form of ocd- it's about repetitive compulsive behaviour, often from nervous energy like with the tapping.
  16. Would you prefer that it was the the third doctor running around in nothing but a towel... again? :P [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ob_z5-WIxCc]YouTube- Doctor Who Spearhead From Space Part 5[/ame] He even still sings the same 7 regenerations later- I think the scene may have been played as a bit of an homage to the early days. RTD was probably responsible for more innuendo than any other writer on the show. He was just coming at it from a very different point of view and was perhaps a little bit more subtle about it so it went over most people's heads. Basically RTD grew up in love with the Doctor and liked to write from the women's perspective. Moffat grew up wishing he was the Doctor and thinks the Doctor should be all cool and popular because he's the hero.
  17. ^Have you seen Amy's Choice twice yet? Did it completely change the second time for you? I really liked that one. :nice: Though it is a little heartbreaking that the Doctor would think so many horrible things about himself.
  18. ^Dude, the very thought of it resulted in dancing. :P I would be dissapointed if the actual album didn't.
  19. Ooh, there's a new album? I shall have to check that out... ...Yes, I'm horribly out of the loop for almost everything lately. :disappointed: *sigh*
  20. Wow. So five years ago tomorrow morning, I was standing outside HMV in the pouring rain waiting for it to open before I ran off to class. Wow. Well, the weather hasn't changed, it's pouring rain. Neither has my writing portfolio. That class I ran off to was the beggining of 3 years and change of stress induced writer's block. The last time I got something half-finished was for it. But my word has my music collection and tastes changed. X&Y was a very big beginning in a way...
  21. Ok, that last one was SO beautiful. I feel like I should go dig out my Van Gogh prints I have tucked away just to look at them. Also, Amy might not be the merrying type now and it never would have worked, but my word their children would have been beautiful...
  22. Wait, is that the same one they loaned Noel Gallagher for that charity show they did together or just a lookalike? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBIy3K8N7O0]YouTube- Chris Martin & Noel Gallagher - Live Forever[/ame] Either way, awesome.
  23. Well, that was a good enough way to end it all if you're capable of letting go, but I still feel like I just had a book ripped out of my hands right when it was getting really good. YES. *feels sorry for all the Law and Order fans* The networks will lose all their viewers if they keep doing that. *Oh yeah* they already are. But seriously, who in their right mind is going to invest their time in a show before the second season if all the good ones keep getting canceled. It's not worth trying. Yes. Sort of. Most of the best TV writers have either fled to pay cable like HBO where they can have creative control, or are being silenced by suits who say they won't spend money on things people don't already like. CSI Alaska, here we come. That might be a good idea... I'll have to track it down sometime...
  24. I can swallow most things without water, even big ones. But there are tricks, it took me a lot practice, and yeah those big bitter horse pills that dissolve too fast are the pits. Sorry if this all sounds a bit pretentious (or gross), but it's how I learned to do it and you asked: For little pills the trick is to stand up straight, build up a good layer of saliva on your tongue so the pill doesn't stick, and place the pill as close to the back of your tongue as you can without gagging. If the pill is long point it toward the back of your throat. The most important thing is to relax while you swallow. Focus on the muscles in your throat and tell them to relax. It's a little like trying to sing a low note- you have to relax your muscles and vocal chords so that your throat opens up and you can get that low note out. The bigger you make your throat the easier it will go down. It's ok to think about it, but if you visualize it getting stuck you'll tense up and then your throat will be too tight for the pill to go down. Try visualizing swallowing where you're relaxed and in control and the pill goes down easily. If you have that image in your head you won't tense up when you actually swallow. Now the big pills. I couldn't swallow anything at all for pills when I was little. So what I did was I would stick my finger on my tongue and try to relax so that I wouldn't gag. It taught me muscle control so that I wouldn't gag even when the pill got stuck. Slowly I could control everything with my finger further and further back. You feel that little twinge like your about to gag, but then you tell yourself it's ok, relax, nothing's going to happen. The further back you can put the pill on your tongue, the easier it will go down. Practicing might help you. With the bitter uncoated ones, I just tell myself "yes, it's bitter. That doesn't matter." and then I compartmentalize it and focus on swallowing rather than completely ignoring it because ignoring bitterness makes it more bitter. If the pill is getting stuck, building up a lot of saliva on your tongue before you put the pill there is really important. It's sticking because it's absorbing the moisture in your tongue. For some reason it doesn't absorb saliva as easily as water, so it should go down easier. Drink some water. I didn't start going without water until I got really good a swallowing with water. When something is so big (or half dissolved) that even I still have trouble, I keep a very large glass full of water handy and I chug the entire thing in one go. Sometimes I tip my head up too. Between all that water and gravity, it eventually goes down. When you learn the mechanics of controlling your throat muscles, swallow fast. It keeps the pill from having time to dissolve at all. But don't panic swallow. Stay in control. If you do choke or get it stuck on your tongue, wait a few minutes before you try again. You'll be too tense to swallow it on the second try otherwise. If a pill is making you really miserable after lots of tries, remember that swallowing the pill on the first try is easiest, so it's ok that you're having trouble and the next time you need to swallow a pill will be better. It will keep you from psyching yourself out next time. Anyway, that's all I've got. Maybe some of my madness makes sense?
