  1. Good grief. Those are terribly addictive...
  2. Exactly, it has to be original studio albums released since December 1st, 2008. So no live albums, no reissues, and no compilation albums.
  3. Ok, reposting: For your information, our points system- Rank your albums from 1 up to 25. Points are awarded based on rank: Rank: Points: 1 - 500 2 - 425 3 - 375 4 - 325 5 - 300 6 - 275 7 - 250 8 - 230 9 - 210 10 - 200 11 - 190 12 - 180 13 - 170 14 - 160 15 - 150 16 - 145 17 - 140 18 - 135 19 - 130 20 - 125 21 - 120 22 - 115 23 - 110 24 - 105 25 - 100
  4. She's wonderful. :nice: Yeah, I thought she had a very shortlived thread here a while back, but maybe I'm imagining things... :uhoh2:
  5. Yes- rank them according to what you think is best, or what you like the most, or which albums you think should have the most points. I usually rank them strategically- I let the really big albums take care of themselves and give my top spots to albums I think need the points and attention. But you have nearly 3 months to finish your list, so no hurry. Most people are just sketching out which albums they want to have somewhere on their lists so far. You can edit your list at any time up to the deadline.
  6. Yes, you have to rank the albums, then points are awarded based on the rank. Heh.. haven't gone by Erin in a long time- my real name is Mo... :laugh3::laugh3::laugh3: Yeah, there's a reason for that :P And thanks... If you ever get to it.
  7. The provisional deadline is Sunday, December 6th. Please make sure you finish your list well ahead of time if this will conflict with your exam schedule. I've added links to all of your lists so far. Please use those posts to edit your lists, or give me a heads up if you want to start again. Remeber, you need at least 5 albums on your list for it to count. (Though more albums make the final list better- hint hint ;))
  8. I can't watch that video on this phone, sorry. But it sounds like you've been misinformed. They triage things. Need a new heart? You get one as soon as it's available. Need a new hip? You're going to have to wait. Nova Scotia is a "have not" province. We have the worst wait times and doctor shortages in the country. I know full well how bad it can get. But I'd still gladly take NS healthcare over US. When you really trully have a need here, you get help. The more desperate the faster. And your family doctor is free and available as long as you have one. Which makes a huge difference in prevention. Good night.
  9. Lies. All lies. They get sugery first. It's electives that have long lists. There are problems and concerns, yes, but I have yet to hear of anyone dying... they'd be a martyr for the media if they did. Lawsuits would abound. Now since I'm typing on a phone and pretending to be asleep, I suppose I should try to get some real sleep. I have to see a doctor about this flu in the morning. Deductable free. *coughs*
  10. "We're sorry, we can't cover your claim today, it's Tuesday and we cannot honor claims submitted on days starting with "T" or on which it rained." "We're sorry, it doesn't matter if there were any complications, your policy only covers one day in the hospital after a birth, so you will have to leave". Insurance working how insurance works, and what is best for the person and the general health of the public are often two very different things though...
  11. That's because Canadians like their heath care so much that they're terrified that even having a private option would destroy all health care. So they use the US as the second tier. Many countries with a public system have their own second tier. There is also private schooling available in most countries with public schooling. Kids with learning difficulties can often find the private option more useful. That doesn't mean public school is a bad idea. Not half as scary as the US propaganda machine says it is. Not even a quarter. And at least we can get those tests and treatments at all. If you let all the people in who needed it your wait times would probably go up too. You just solve it by leaving the poor out. Probably because you've let hospitals pay exorbitant fees to steal other countries doctors away and drug companies sell you endless designer drugs... which leads to: Yes. But then what about the people who still can't afford it. You're still making your system work by screwing the poor on a basic human right.
  12. word. You know, the whole paying for it all thing... beyond the where tos and the why fors and the whole big partisan mess, the one thing I don't get is, if a basic elementary school education is a basic human right, something that is provided to any American child no matter if they can pay for it or not, why is health care less important? Because if I'm 12, I have cancer, and my parents have crappy low paying jobs and no insurance, all that school is kind of pointless without my life. The whole having life thing would matter far more to me 20 years down the road than the education thing. Say what you want about Canadian health care, I know it has problems, and there are probably far better public systems out there. But when I was having an atypical migrane that masqueraded as a stroke (they do that apparently) I walked (or more accurately stumbled) into the emergency room with nothing but the clothes on my back- not a single cent or scrap of paper to my name. I had forgotten my purse at home that day and there was no time to go get it. I never even saw a waiting room. They stayed with me in triage looking after me until a bed was available. They gave me IV stuff, and a CAT scan, and a lumbar puncture and everything, with nothing to go by but what I claimed was my name and address. If it had been for real, I would have been dead under the US system.
  13. Well, at least the Polaris Prize is still picking great albums so far- this years nominees are great from what I've heard of them. It kind of makes sense to me that she won from that one song. For the genre, the girl seems to have a way with words, and she seems to be solid without being scary (Lady Soverign) or slutty- at least in that video. It is a jury prize, after all. It's about which album the jurors liked best and thought should win- not which one was most popular or highly thought of or lasting.

^ Lovely. Maybe if you all took a deep breath and started over again things would be better. Because you certainly seem to have started off on the wrong foot. Personally, I have a policy about trying to be nice to newbs until they give me a good reason not to be. It usually works quite well. I still think of this place as the nice board, and I'd very much like it to stay that way if that's even possible in this internet age. I've found people tend to treat you the way you treat them, and that even goes for kindness if you keep your wits about you. Remember that the next time you have to deal with some blathering idiot that you're dreading in real life- it does work, it just takes a lot of patience.

Hi, I don't think we've met before. I'm Mo. You seem a little lost and confused... Maybe if you chilled out a bit and avoided making new threads it would help a bit. Sorry about the name calling brigade, they seem to have been at that a lot lately. Don't encourage them and they'll go away. :hat:
  16. You can thank twitter for that... it alerted the authorities and they clamped down from what I'm hearing. Nothing like a searchable public database of chatter to find all the major links and exterminate them. I don't know personally that it's real, but yeah, it's apparently the whole thing.
  17. No, sorry. It needs to be new work, so live albums, compilation albums, and album reissues are all out. The one exception is compilations of mainly previously unreleased material, like Elliot Smith's New Moon, or Sufjan Steven's The Avalanche.
  18. Heh... #museleak is one of the top topics on twitter right now... :shocked2::laugh3: Made me do a double take. So much for leaks being halfway secret for at least a day any more ...on the bright side, maybe all the people scratching their heads over it will become fans...
  19. ^^^ Thanks guys. ^ That is a very good idea. :D And I'm glad you just volunteered because the nessesary scope of it boggles my mind a little bit. :P :dizzy: But yes, up to 2010 might be better... but on the other hand... this is when all the decade stuff will be happening... ... ...Oh my word, y2k was almost 10 years ago. I'm old
  20. You can if you want to. If you do, you can edit your list at any time for the next 3 months, and you can post as many as 25 albums if you want to. I always start this thread very early because some people like to have time to listen to lots of suggestions from this thread before they make their own lists. And by the way for anyone short on cash and squeamish about downloading (it comes up alot), check out grooveshark: http://listen.grooveshark.com/ It's free, relatively legal (they pay license fees from ad $) and has an amazing amount of even new/obscure stuff. Thanks :nice:

Thanks. Had the idea before you :p Let the games begin...  http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=61599
  22. Yeah, I guess I'd better for everyone who wasn't around last year, huh? I'll update the first post in a bit. For now, the idea is that you make a list of between 5 and 25 of your favorite original studio albums (no live albums, eps or rereleases, sorry) released this year and in December I will compile all this lists to find out what Coldplaying's favorites are. You can use this thread to sketch out some ideas, talk, or post your list (I'll put a link in the first post). You can edit any list until the deadline. (Think Decemberish after exam season.)

  24.   Deadline: Sunday December 6th at 7:00pm EST. (12:00am GMT) Timeframe: Any original studio album released between December 1 2008 and December 2009. Please NO: live albums, rereleases or reissues, compilation albums, or EPs. Points are awarded based on Rank. Discussion Threads: 2006 2007 2008 Countdowns: 2006 2007 2008 Incomplete List of Albums released this year: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_albums_released_in_2009 (Be careful, that usually goes by the US release date. We go by the US and UK release date here- whichever is first.) The deal: make a list of at least 5 and as many as 25 of your favorite original studio albums (no live albums, eps, compilations, or rereleases, sorry) released this year. Eligibility is determined by the original release date. An album released in 2008 in the UK and 2009 in the US will count as a 2008 album. (Long list bonus: add 5 extra albums at 50 points each for a total of 30 albums.) In December I will compile all this lists to find out what Coldplaying's favorites are. You can use this thread to sketch out some ideas, talk, or post your list. You can edit any list until the deadline. Lists linked in the second post of this thread are the lists that count. If you want to start again, please let me know so I can add your new list. The 2009 countdown is here
