Best unreleased song?
In full or just a section of it?

I've just listened to it on Twitter. It sounds quite ghostly. I get the comparisons to Death and All His Friends' ending. If the soundcheck isn't us being fooled by muffled sound and it sounds as good or better it will certainly be an interesting listen, It's worth noting that there is a distinct possibility that the song just doesn't sound that good once/if we get a studio version. We prayed for years for a studio-quality version of the AHFOD version of The Race to be found and once we found it, it just didn't sound as epic and energetic as we'd been lead by the bad documentary recordings.

I assume Raining in Manila is one of those songs they write for shows in different places?

Best unreleased song?
I think Viva La Vida was the final album with proper thought written into the lyrics across the board. There were great songs after that mind you. Fly On is very well written, and despite Coloratura being quite silly at times the lyrics are still quite charming - in fact, the section of it in Overtura really helped me when it came out, on what was the worst day of my life so far.

Best unreleased song?
When it comes to Coldplay songs, particularly in recent years, the appeal of most of them is not the lyrics. I don't think much of the lyrics of The Race and I think the lyrics of Life Is Beautiful are downright stupid, but both songs are brilliantly written when it comes to the instrumental, which is why I like both of them.

The Race (unreleased song)
I like both to be honest. While the ending of the AHFOD version is brilliant, the brilliant guitar solo of the second Ghost Stories version is also very nice. As for the 'bulk' of the song, it's a narrow win for the GS version in my eyes. On my computer I have an edited version, which is the GS version with the ending of the AHFOD version added on the end. It's preferred way of listening to the song now.

This is interesting. With the third part of MOTS being cancelled it seems, I have two thoughts. First of all, with Aeterna being a B-side as of this interview, it might be the case they've recorded more for MOTS2 than they actually needed and are now releasing the extra, possibly MOTS3 stuff alongside MOTS2. And then the other question is an alternate take on the same idea; what if the musical is MOTS3? Of course we don't know about the fates of songs such as Robots, One World and A Wave. While the recording on YouTube of One World and the AI improved version of A Wave are great, a studio release would be really good. Plus there are other songs tehy really should release that are in their back catalogue like Life Is Beautiful and A Ghost that are also worth releasing, albeit perhaps not now. I guess my main thought with that is to do with the final album, Coldplay. We don't know that much about the album other than the general 'old Coldplay' theme, and it would be a lovely treat if they rerecorded some of their older unreleased songs for it. Perhaps we can finally get to properly here A View From The Top, because as of now there's only two versions of it uploaded to YouTube as far as I know; the first is terrible and the second is less terrible, and I am the one who uploaded it. I guess there is potential for AI to come in and improve these songs. A Ghost will be easy since we already have a studio recording, even if it's low quality. Life Is Beautiful should be possible, but I have little faith in AI being able to make a good version of A View From The Top.

Music Of The Spheres - My Final Thoughts
It's close to two years since MOTS (1) was released and I was one of the seemingly few people who actually liked the album when it came out. And two years later, I still like it. However, my thoughts on it are different compared to other albums. Other than Coloratura, I don't think there's as much range in the quality of the music here than in other albums. In Coldplay's first three albums, there are songs I absolutely love (Everything's Not Lost, The Scientist and Square One for example) but in each there are a number that I don't like as much, and occasionally don't like at all. Viva La Vida, Mylo Xyloto and Ghost Stories had the same effect but to a lesser extent, where I like every song on each album but like some especially. On A Head Full Of Dreams, there are a few songs I really like, such as Kaleidoscope, Army Of One, Up&Up and Hymn For The Weekend, and some I tolerate, and some I don't like, but my overall feeling is that the album is not produced well enough and almost everything on it could be so much better if they'd taken more time working on the album. Everyday Life only has a few songs I'd listen to out of context, but when listening to the album in one go I think it's probably the best album Coldplay have done, even if I think they got Everyday Life and Champion Of The World the wrong way around in the track listing. Each song on MOTS is worth listening to out of context, but as an album it doesn't work as well. I think I remember seeing some reviews calling it a 'collection of songs' which fits I think. So, let me go song-by-song and give my thoughts like I did with my previous Everyday Life review. Music Of The Spheres 1: MOTS1 was one of the first songs from the album to be heard even if it was only released when the album came out. It was played at some concerts and was uploaded to YouTube early on, alongside Human Heart and a weird version of MOTS1 that was modified to incorporate different sections of other songs including O. The song itself is a very good opening to the album, if not one to Higher Power. On its own I love how atmospheric it is - I remember when it first leaked playing Cities Skylines and inspecting my city at night in the snow. The two fit perfectly together. Higher Power: Higher Power was controversial when released but I think its reception has improved over time. I like the song; I think out of the pop songs Coldplay have made Higher Power is probably the closest to their traditional sound that they've done. Humankind: Silly lyrics aside, Humankind is a great song with the highlights being its choruses. I know it sounds ironic but my favourite part is the ending which I find is a nice exit out of what is a fast-paced song. Indeed, beyond this point in the album it gets a bit slower for the time being. Alien Choir: Leading on from Humankind directly, I don't think Alien Choir is as good an interlude track as MOTS1, there's just not much going on. I reckon it would have been better if it was cut down and just used as an ending to Humankind. Let Somebody Go: I think this is the most heartfelt song from the album. However, I think it only becomes memorable at the climax of the song, otherwise it would be a slightly pathetic collaboration with Alex from Waverly Place. Overall it is a good song, even if it feels like it would be better on a Selena Gomez album rather than a Coldplay one. Human Heart: Human Heart is a song with a very good base but I feel it goes on for a bit too long, which is odd for a three minute long song. After the first chorus, it feels like the song is repeating itself, and not in a good way like Daft Punk. People Of The Pride: Seeing people's thoughts on this song, it's either one you love or hate. I think the critic reviews of the song were a bit harsh, I think the song does a good job of being aggressive and possibly their best effort at it depending on how you compare it to other aggressive Coldplay songs. Biutyful: This is a song that a lot of people hate - naturally, it's one of the songs I listen to the most from the album. When it first came out I did treat it as a bit of a meme song but eventually I came to like it by itself. My biggest flaw with it is that they never released the extended version. MOTS2: Unlike almost everything else on this album, I would not listen to it on its own as its only justification for existing is as an intro to My Universe. In fact, if I remember correctly the leaked version of the song included MOTS2 inside My Universe, and that worked a lot better. My Universe: My Universe is a song I like. I know that's a controversial take but I find it to be completely fine. Not bad, not amazing. Do I think The Astronaut would have been a better choice? Absolutely. Ironically I prefer the Supernova 7 remix and would have preferred that to be on the album instead of the normal version, but I'll survive either way. Infinity Sign: This was another controversial one. While it connects to Coloratura I think it's best listened to on its own (although I do listen to it as an intro to Coloratura as well) and on its own I find it fits in well with other semi-nostalgic sounding electronic songs on my playlist. I'd rather have it than not have it. Coloratura: Nobody expected Coldplay to make one of their best songs, if not their best song entirely. It's a very complex song that's best listened to with good headphones in a high quality. I'd recommend buying the single on iTunes for that. I think it's best listened to in one go rather than skipping to the 'good bit' (of course, the entire song is a good bit!). I have more thoughts on the song but that's going to have to wait for the next section. The Lead-up to MOTS: Prior to its release the community was busy speculating, and boy did we get this album wrong. Not only did our predicted track list be entirely wrong, songs we expected to be definitely on the album... weren't. Oh well, maybe The Race will come on the next album... However, something that I was most interested in was Overtura, the trailer for the album. The day it released was one of the worst days of my life and to be blunt it probably did help me from doing something stupid, but more on that later. Each song was previewed in the trailer, but not all in the most accurate light, mostly to do with My Universe and MOTS2. Let me explain... In the trailer, MOTS2 was not actually MOTS2. Instead, what was played was the (very nice) bridge between the main part of My Universe and its reprise. Then, My Universe's preview was the reprise (from the instrumental version for some reason), and when the song came out I was disappointed to find My Universe sounding completely different to the preview except for a short section at the end - or as I like to call it, the best part of My Universe. Other disappointments included Infinity Sign. Close to release there was some brief excitement that it might actually be a renamed and reworked version of Life Is Beautiful, which other than the backing track being the same was not the case. I like Life Is Beautiful, and am disappointed it was never released or had a high quality recording. Going back to Overtura, the format of it was very good. While it was horribly compressed, the presentation was lovely and Coloratura's section was brilliant. It felt nostalgic even though the song was new, and I listened to that section on repeat that day and it helped me feel slightly better. Ultimately, MOTS is an alright album in my opinion that may also be partly responsible for me being alive today.

Leaks, interviews and performances mainly. The title of the album was given in an interview quite a while ago now. Most of the songs assumed to be on the album have already been performed, with the exception of Robots which was confirmed by Coldplay in an interview but has not been heard yet. There is no official confirmation on a tracklist yet, but there are some songs that are more likely to be on the next album than others.

It's hardly uncommon. Radiohead Amnesiac was made up almost entirely of songs rejected from Kid A. The next album will certainly have songs that were cut from MOTS or earlier albums. A Wave, for example, was definitely written during MOTS' recording, although whether it's on the next album is yet to be seen. I hope it is though.

I expect it means both. We know Moon Music is a MOTS sequel album, so that lends itself to being the trilogy we expected.

That's really good. More of the song can be heard like the bass-heavy parts which didn't come across in the live recordings. That said the section starting at 1:10 sounds different and not very good. I'm not sure how the uploader got the clean audio (soundboard or AI maybe) but either way hopefully the studio version isn't like that. EDIT: Having listened to the version with headphones, I definitely don't think it's the perfect audio that the name promises. The guitar sections (the weird bits I pointed out after my first listen) are given higher priority than the rest of the song, making a backing track the main part of the song. I've tried editing it in Audacity but it's a problem with the recording itself. I assume the IEM in the title refers to in-ear monitor. If it's true we still need a proper soundboard upload. While it's not an amazing recording and not even the full song, the Sao Paulo upload is the one I believe will be the closest to the future studio version.

Japanese Bonus Tracks
I'd have to listen to both to hear any difference. I'm listening to Orphans from the normal UK release of the album (ripped to WAV files) and it sounds nice and clear. I have come across badly mixed CDs but it doesn't sound noticeably bad, Could you give some specific examples? I also have the high-quality MP3s included with the record release, which is slightly better than the CD one but not majorly. I only have Flags on iTunes.

The only place I can find this lovely version is a 14-year-old upload on YouTube. Was it ever put on a CD release? Is there a download somewhere? There used to be one on here but I can't find it.

That said it doesn't explain what the new information actually is, so at the absolute minimum it has to have something to do with the tour. Other than that we're free to speculate. Performing a new single live? The new album in its entirety live like with Everyday Life? Performing with Radiohead for the next leg of the tour? A new 20-minute version of Coloratura? A live show dedicated to scrapped versions of The Race? We will find out this time next week.

I am disappointed Coloratura wasn't a proper single. Imagine the insanity of releasing a ten minute rock opera ballad in an era of... Well, My Universe. Imagine how cool a Coloratura music video could have been - maybe the video for Talk x10? Overall the novelty of Coloratura itself (and hopefully its quality) would have carried it, but alas we'll never know since there was basically no marketing for it. I think what you say about Higher Power and My Universe can be applied to quite a few songs which I find to be underwritten. We Found Love by Rihanna is one of those - it is a good song but just ends out of nowhere and could have been written to last longer and feel more satisfying. Don't get me started on the ending of Birds. My conspiracy theory is that it was late at night and they were recording Birds but ran out of space on the computer just before the ending, meaning the true ending of Birds was lost and they couldn't be bothered to rerecord it because they wanted to go to bed. But that's just a theory... Ultimately it can also be applied to a lot of Coldplay songs. There are too many good Coldplay songs that could have spent a bit longer in the oven and come out much better. Army Of One; great instrumental but feels a bit empty, but I think that's down to the terrible mixing of AHFOD. Hymn For The Weekend: the buildup and chorus in the live version is amazing, but the studio release just sounds narrow. All Your Friends: needs a bit more going on. Not that interesting as it stands. My Universe: the ending is amazing, but based on Overtura we were lead to believe that was how the song sounded and I wish Coldplay had done a bit more with that ending. And going deeper into my tangent, there are songs cut from albums where I wish they'd included them. Moving To Mars would have been a fan favourite if it was on Mylo Xyloto, but in the end it was on a digital-only EP that was named after a different song, hence why I don't see it mentioned much or remembered. This is a controversial opinion, but there are a number of songs on A Rush Of Blood that could have been replaced with I Ran Away. Miracles is a great song and could have been great on AHFOD or Kaleidoscope - certainly better than X Marks The Spot. Gravity is a beautiful song, and again there are songs on X&Y I'd easily choose to ditch in favour of Gravity. Then there's much of Prospekt's March. The Osaka Sun Mix of Lovers In Japan should have just been how Lovers In Japan always was; Life in Technicolour ii would have been a far better opener than its instrumental version on Viva La Vida. However unlike other Coldplay albums there aren't any songs on VLV I'd cut in favour of Prospekt's March songs. That said, I did come up with a Kid A Mnesia-esque tracklist for what a VLV rerelease could look like, splicing together VLV and PM, plus other releases from the time: Life In Technicolor ii Cemeteries Of London Lost! 42 Lovers In Japan (Osaka Sun Mix) Reign Of Love Yes Chinese Sleep Chant Death Will Never Conquer (this is the first instance of a song being put into the album which interrupts the flow of the original - I found having Chinese Sleep Chant and Viva La Vida together was a bit too fast and Death Will Never Conquer serves quite a good palette cleanser) Viva La Vida Violet Hill A Spell A Rebel Yell The Goldrush Strawberry Swing Death And All His Friends Postcards From Far Away (serves as a replacement for The Escapist and a bridge between VLV and PM) Glass Of Water Rainy Day Lhuna Christmas Lights Prospekt's March / Poppyfields Now My Feet Won't Touch The Ground The Escapist I did make this a long time ago and there are some placements and inclusions I'm not sure about, like where A Spell A Rebel Yell and The Goldrush are placed, and whether Lhuna should be included, but ultimately it's okay. I even burnt a CD as close to the tracklist above I could get using my rips and iTunes purchases and it is a fun way to listen to the album. Anyway, I apologise for going on such a massive tangent.

Which is annoying, since I found it to be much better than My Universe (I don't think I'm alone on this), although the Supernova 7 Mix of My Universe was a tasty tune.

Perhaps. It could be a hidden track but I'm not certain about it.

"One World", new song in Sao Paulo
Having now listened to it, I'm not sure where to put it. To be honest it gives me the vibes of a song that they'll only play once or twice and forget about, which is ironic since Life Is Beautiful was a full (and very good) song that they left on the table. I'd like to see One World (and Life Is Beautiful by extension) come back but I think A Wave is more likely to be on the album.

I haven't listened to it yet but its performance brings up the number of possible MOTS2 songs to at least three. One World A Wave Aeterna The Astronaut (maybe?) Also keeping hopes up for The Race but I know it's a pipe dream... Either way, these four songs seem to have had a very positive reception individually, but whether they work as an album is up for debate. A Wave is produced in a similar way to Aeterna but could only work if they were far apart. Aeterna directly into A Wave would be horrible. If The Astronaut is included (I know it's debatable but my previous comments about the timing of its performance still stand; it may be more than a coincidence), it could be a good song to come right before the end. Therefore, here is my predicted track list based on the four possible songs now: One World Aeterna The Astronaut A Wave The Race (hidden track) The Race (Ghost Stories Version) (hidden track) A Ghost (hidden track) My though process behind One World's placement is under the assumption it's a bit like Human Heart. Again, I haven't heard it yet so I can't make a final judgement. Aeterna would be the introduction to the second half in my mind. And yes, the hidden tracks are a joke... Even if I wish it came true... PS: I went to edit the name of a previous MOTS2 thread I'd made but apparently I made this thread. Did admins change the name?
