Really? Yippes. Could you elaborate on the sorts of problems you've had? I would think that most of the problems that could arise would stem from who is managing the account. The paypal account is under my name, and the account is going to be mutually managed by myself, Victaniac, an_cat, and Frostbite. I'd like to assure you all that your donations will be in safe hands, but if anyone has any doubts about our sincerity, please feel free to PM us with any questions or concerns you may have.

The paypal situation needs some further thinking. I worked out the math, and if the minimum $28.00 was met each month (the minimum for Sponsor a Child), with everyone just giving the minimum $1.36, we'd lose $9.33 in transaction fees!! For each transaction, PayPal keeps 2.9% + 0.30 cents. The 2.9% isn't the problem...it's the 0.30 cents...because 0.30 out of one dollar is a huge amount, and it would add up quickly. Basically, we wouldn't be hammered as hard if people choose to donate more than the minimum. To give an idea, if just one person donated $28.00, we'd only lose $1.11. See what I'm saying? If some people are able to give over the minimum....like $5.00 instead of $1.36, it might work out okay. We will have alternatives for people who don't feel comfortable donating through PayPal. For example, an idea that was proposed early on was that people could donate directly to the charities themselves. Then forward email receipts to a specific email address so we can keep track how much is being raised for each charity. Kind of make sense? Like an_cat (danielle) said, for those who don't have credit cards, we could accept mailed in amounts. There is more planning that needs to be done obviously...and hopefully it will all be ironed out soon! :nice:

Hey guys, sooo turns out we missed Earth Day by 2 days (:(), but it's not too late to celebrate it! Take this Ecologocal Footprint Quiz to measure your 'ecological dent' and estimate how much productive land and water your lifestyle requires. This is quite an eye opener! We could say that Western consumption culture has created a world where mass production of foods and material goods is the impetus for our society’s progress and growth. But by saying this, we are merely transferring the blame to a socially created ideal. We, the people, are the creators of our consumption culture, so the change needs to come from root levels. Hope the quiz gives everyone something to think about! :-)

This evening I got a PayPal account ready for the CCC's first 'donation box!' I will post all the details tomorrow, but essentially we are going to begin a $1.00 campaign (or 1.00 of whatever currency it is you use in your country) to raise money to sponsor a child. The idea is that small actions can lead to big differences. You will find a link about the Sponsor A Child program in the first post of this thread....I encourage you all to check it out so that you realize how we will be making an impact in the life of an impoverished child. Sadly I do believe the guarentee has expired. :( I got my shuffle when they first came out on the market. The nano is cute and compact, but I'd like the 60gb model so I can take my videos and photos everywhere. :P Thanks for your advice tho! :)
