Así es como Jonny Buckland, guitarrista de Coldplay, define su nuevo disco, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, que lanzarán el 16 de junio a nivel mundial. En él, explica, está muy presente la idea de la muerte, al igual que en la obra de la artista mexicana Frida Kahlo, quien inspiró el título del álbum. "Al pensar que hay que morir, decides que lo que hay que hacer es vivir. Cuando tuvimos el título, supimos que queríamos más color en nuestra música, algo más visual. Queríamos expresar temas oscuros, pero con mucho color, como Frida", dice Buckland en entrevista exclusiva con Gente! en Londres "Ella nunca pintaba en tonos grises, porque son deprimentes. Siempre se agarraba a la vida", agrega. Agrega que el cuarto álbum de la banda británica, liderada por Chris Martin, es el más experimental de los que han realizado hasta ahora, en parte gracias a la producción de Brian Eno (Depeche Mode, U2). Esto, porque en los 10 temas del disco se mezcla el flamenco ("Cemeteries of London"), pinceladas africanas ("Yes") e incluso música sacra de órgano ("Lost!"). "Ha sido divertido y muy interesante mezclar todo tipo de influencias con Brian. No había fronteras de ningún tipo en lo que escuchábamos. Ahora, con la internet, se puede tener acceso instantáneo a todo. "Y sería una locura no estar influenciado por muchas cosas. Pero fue difícil decidir qué canciones poníamos en el disco, porque no queríamos repetirnos, sobre todo emocionalmente", asegura el músico. Confiesa que este nuevo trabajo lo tiene preocupado hasta cierto punto, aunque no es para alarmarse. "Éste es el disco que me pone más nervioso, porque hemos dejado de utilizar todos los trucos de antes. Queríamos probar formas diferentes de hacer música y nos hemos sentido liberados". Y aunque anteriormente los miembros de Coldplay aseguraron que sus tres primeros discos eran una especie de trilogía, Buckland se muestra dubitativo ante la idea de que Viva la Vida... sea el inicio de una nueva era para la banda. "Supongo que sí, aunque no estoy muy seguro de qué tipo de nueva era. Nos dimos cuenta de ello cuando terminamos de grabar. Habíamos explorado una vía, y llegó el momento de ensayar otras cosas". Para promocionar el álbum, el grupo echó mano de los recursos tecnológicos, regalando el primer sencillo, "Violet Hill", a través de su página de internet antes de ponerlo esta semana a la venta, junto al tema "Viva la Vida", en iTunes. Sin embargo, regalar el disco completo, como lo hizo Radiohead, parece ser otra historia. "La opción de Radiohead, que cada quien pague lo que crea por el CD, quizás podríamos considerarla, pero la disquera va a decir que no (risas). La idea me parece bien. "Creo que son muy interesantes los cambios que se están produciendo en el mundo de la música", considera. ¿Cuál es tu postura ante el hecho de que la gente baje la música de internet sin pagar? Es algo ante lo que nosotros no podemos hacer nada. Yo ni siquiera tengo una copia de nuestro disco; así no lo puedo perder. Pero hay mucha gente a la que le siguen gustando los discos. ¿Por qué la idea de ofrecer conciertos gratuitos en Londres (16 de junio), Barcelona (17) y Nueva York (23) regalando los boletos en su página oficial? Por la misma razón por la que pusimos gratuitamente en internet "Violet Hill". Queríamos hacer algo que escapara al cinismo. Tan simple como eso. Queríamos darle la vuelta. ¿Qué expectativas tienen de la nueva gira mundial, que arrancarán el 29 de junio, en Filadelfia? Una gira puede ser difícil, pero también es muy divertida. And even though the band said before that their first three albums were sort of a trilogy, Buckland doesn't feel that 'Viva la Vida...' it's the beginning af a new era for the band. "I guess so, but I'm not sure what kind of new era we're talking about. We realised that when we finished recording. We've had explored one way, and it was time to try different things". To promote the album, the band use technological resources, giving away their firs single, "Violet Hill", through their webpage before putting it on the market, along with the song "Viva La Vida" on iTunes. Although, giving away for free the whole album, like Radiohead, is a whole another story. "Radiohead's option, to pay what you think the record's worth, may be considerable, but the record label's hoing to say NO! (laughs). I think it's a good idea. The changes on the music business are very interesting". -What's your opinion on the fact that people are downloading music for free? "It's something we can't do anything about. I don't even have a copy of our new album; that way I won't lose it. But there's a lot of people out there that still likes having CD's". -Why are you going to have free concerts in London (June 16), Barcelona (17) and New York (23) giving away the tickets on your webpage? "For the same reason we put 'Violet Hill' for free on the internet. We wanted to do something that escaped from the usual. As simple as that. We wanted to turn it around". - What are your expectations for this new that launches in Philladelphia on June 29th? "Touring can be tough, but it's also a lot of fun.We enjoyed tremendously our tour in South America, like when we were in Mexico. (translator's note: JONNY!!!!! MEXICO IS IN NORTH AMERICA!!!) i really don't understand why people go all the way to create an account and just make one lousy post about a fake coverart.... I'll tell you why it's fake: if the art department in EMI thinks as an actual art department, they wouldn't use a painting for a single cover art, since they didn't use one for the VH single, and as an art department who cares about your artist, you should keep a line of artwork and make all of your releases for the same album as equal as possible... anyways, it's just a graphic designer's 2-cents.....

From that small clip, and from listening to Lost? I can say that this song is not going to be one of my favorites...didn't liked the acoustic version, and not liking this full band version either

Oh ok, sorry, didn't see that one.... so I guess it's going to be some sort of "Madonna - American Life video" situation, where they have both videos, but since MTV probably won't play the one on the official page, they will release the "normal/boring" version for TV and keep the "alternate/politically charged" version for the web....
