  1. - Koyaanisqatsi (this one is #1, the rest are in no particular order) - 2001: A Space Odyssey (wait, I lied, this is definitely #2, but the rest are in no order) - The Deer Hunter - The Shining - Forrest Gump - Back to the Future - Sideways - The Big Lebowski - The Royal Tenenbaums - This is Spinal Tap - Dancer in the Dark (because I'm a Bjork freak and an admirer of Lars von Trier) - City of God
  2. They played a couple of songs that are on the new album the last time I saw them. And they sounded pretty much the same as what they've done up to now (the "Ba Ba Ti Ki Di Do" thing excepted, but that was for a Merce Cunningham thing anyway). But that show was also well over two years ago. So who knows how they may have changed and morphed. I'd say they're definitely pretty popular here in the U.S. too. I didn't even try to get tickets for the presale because I hate having to rush for them. But they've been pretty popular here for awhile, both times I saw them were sold out shows, and both times were in moderately big venues, and that was several years ago. I have faith that their new album will be as good as those that preceded it, but I refuse to read any reviews for this one, because I've just about had it with braindead critics comparing them to glaciers and geysers.
  3. A thread by Albie that made me think a little! Hell has frozen over. I guess I would say fall too. I don't know if that's my "best," but it's definitely the most comfortable for me.
  4. The Tweeter Center is small? Are you kidding me? It's waaayyyy too big for me to really enjoy seeing a show there (except for the time I managed to get tickets to see Radiohead there in the pit).
  5. Yeah, as I've said before, liking any kind of rock or pop music and not knowing the Beatles is like being a painter and not knowing what the color red looks like.
  6. The Beach Boys The Flaming Lips Built to Spill John Coltrane George Gershwin Bob Dylan Tortoise Wilco Stevie Wonder And a bunch of other ones that are also not in that poll. :P
  7. "this is so dorky" I have a friend who's a fan. And she's the only reason I've ever actually watched it. All I remember is that MacGyver is in it. And I remember that MacGyver has much grayer hair now, and isn't nearly as cool as he used to be.
  8. My meal schedule is: Lunch: 8 pm Dinner: 12 am And that's it. I generally just have a growly stomach for most of the day.
  9. Grilled sesame chicken. Would have been good except it was COLD. And there were way too many noodles and not enough chicken. And it was way overpriced (because I got it at the Philadelphia Orchestra show tonight, where everything is overpriced, but my eating schedule is so erratic that I consider it lunch). Damn. That lunch sucked, now that I think about it.
  10. I have to disagree with Johnny Depp doing a good job. He ruined a great character! He's the only thing out of place in the film. Tim Burton did a fine job with it, Johnny Depp managed to turn Willy Wonka into a freaky Michael Jackson type. Overall it was better than I was expecting, but Johnny Depp is definitely the weak link in the chain. There's something I never thought I'd find myself saying.
  11. awwww I love me some Nick Drake.
  12. I haven't eaten any fast food in years, to be honest. Oh wait, Taco Bell is fast food. Never mind. Anyway, I was probably in high school the last time I ate at a McDonalds. It was bad then, and apparently it still is. McDonalds to me represents everything that's wrong with capitalism. They have no respect for their customers, on a customer service level and in what they're serving people, because they know that for every person who gets fed up with the consistantly low quality of service and appalling content of the food itself, another person will say, "Hey, it's a vaguely chicken-like sandwich for cheap!" And for every location that gets shut down, three more seem to open. So there's no incentive to actually change anything, other than pretending to offer "healthy" meals (have a salad with your fatburger instead of fries!). And their advertising campaigns are beyond annoying. I've never seen anybody try so hard to channel "urban" culture (or their focus-grouped version of it: usually black people or latinos with sass) and fail so miserably. Everything about that company, from top to bottom, is a joke. And yet they still make money every year (even if it's been less money recently), and they probably still will long after we all die.
  13. hahahahahaha  I see the resemblance!
  14. Ok, I got their new album, and I'm sad to say that after a few listens, I'm pretty disappointed. They kept the warm electronic spacieness, but there are no breathtaking songs like "Eple" or "Sparks" or "In Space" on this one. Atmospheres and glossy production can only get you so far, especially when you're dealing with a sound that's pretty much been done to death already. It's just track after track of more-or-less average electro-pop.
  15. Yeah, same here. Here's my always-hot list: - Beatles (duh) - Dylan (duh) - Beach Boys (duh) - Boards of Canada - Tortoise - Stevie Wonder - XTC - John Coltrane - Syd Barrett - Flaming Lips - Philip Glass - Miles Davis - BJORK!!!! I used to be one of those people who could never shut up about how great Radiohead are, but I've kinda been off them for a couple years.
  16. I don't really know who Coldplay like, but I find both of those bands average at best and don't really understand the huge hype around either of them. But you know, to each his own and all that. :D
  17. Paul's had as many good solo albums as John or George. He's just had a lot of bad ones too.
  18. Probably both. She seemed like she'd be into that "pretty-boy pirate" thing he's got going on.
  19. Arular is a pretty good album... not great, but pretty good. I'd like it more if 2/3 of the songs didn't sound more or less the same. But it is pretty infectious. And "Galang" is a hell of a single.
