Coldplay are now a pop band
Vote, and discuss if you'd like to :) I won't post my own opinion quite yet, as i'm really looking forward to hearing what others think.

You are most right, my friend :) Though, there's nothing to be shocked about a gal who manages to get the whole of the o2 rocking almost single-handedly!!

^^ The press have had loads of good copy from Coldplay over the years. Any band that gets as much space in The Sun as Girls Aloud and Lily Allen must be doing something 'right'!!

Thanks so much for your post, it was a fascinating read, exactly what I'd been wondering about :) I guess Coldplay just aren't seen as having enough 'attitude' or are enough 'street' for many people in England, and that i'm lucky and privileged enough to come from a background where these things aren't important. I do wonder if it's just coincidence that everyone around me either loves them or at least likes them, including my aunt who's in her late eighties!?

What do you think?
LiJ is one of my very-favourites, but the OSM is just horrible to my ears, I don't know exactly why. I think it may be because it's far too 'busy'. A real shame they didn't put the acoustic on Prospekt's March, that would have made the EP perfect.

Lovers of Japan
It's still my absolute favourite :)

A remix of the two would be really interesting.

Eh? It's the middle of winter in Japan, as it is everywhere else in the Northern Hemisphere. Or have I missed something?

Just a hypothesis fella, but I find it extraordinary that everyone I know around here loves the band, from toddler to pensioner, while there are apparently a lot of people who are scathing. In fact the only person I know who is openly hostile to the band is from Lancashire. Got an alternative theory - would love to hear it?!

I think it's all too easy, even a lazy response, to turn one's nose up at our favourite band, which is a great shame. I'm a huge huge music lover, not just a Coldplay fan, but for my money they're easily the best band in the world right now in terms of recorded output and live shows (a bit short as they may be). It's a real shame that class and/or regional affection should interfere with peoples' enjoyment of the incredible music. ???

I meant more where you live (and so the people you're surrounded by) than where you originally come from. I just can't believe all this negativity, as I've never, ever seen it myself.

Maybe it's a northern bias against Coldplay then? (You're from Liverpool Alison, aren't you?) I went to uni in Yorkshire and can see how our nicely-spoken middle-class boys might be dissed up there, while bands with more attitude like Oasis get respect. Seriously, I have never never once had a negative comment about being a Coldplay fan, the worst I think was my friend saying he didn't really want to come to a gig with me because he wasn't a huge fan of Chris' falsetto (more fool him!) His partner was friends with Will at uni and went to the band's very first gigs (Laurel Tree and Dublin Castle). Not that that means anything, but something to mention to make my post more interesting perhaps :laugh3:

I would like to suggest a new project for this board - 'Lore's from far away'. We all donate a pound/dollar/euro into a kitty and get this Coldplaying.com legend to join us at the gig in September. Good idea? I'm serious btw.

:laugh3::laugh3::laugh3: Knowing Britain the Olypics will have to be cancelled because we have the 'wrong kind of rain' that causes everything to collapse :embarassed: I couldn't agree more about the 'comedians'. Kylie is a class act and I felt embarrassed she had to put up with that idiot beside her. But how old are you? I've been a huge Coldplay fan for seven years, and have never been laughed at or had a bad comment even once about them. All my family love them, even my aunt who's in her late eighties can only praise them. Where are all these Coldplay haters I read about on here, I'd be fascinated to actually meet one!!

As I wrote elsewhere they really haven't played enough large-scale gigs in the UK to raise their live awareness throughout the public. Though the boys have played incredible buzz gigs in the Uk and nurous radio slots for which we're extremely grateful, after the Brixton gig in June (which only a few thousand people could attend) we had a six month wait to see them again. The main focus this year has been America, and that's been reflected in the fact that the band won Grammys but not Brits. I'm not sure that LiTii flopped, but it certainly would've been a bigger hit if it had been better promoted. Like LiJ and even The Hardest Part from the last album, it almost felt like it was a 'secret' single that you had to go out and search for even to purchase. I have no idea why the band take that road, but I absolutely agree it deserved to be number 1 and probably scoop the single of the year prize, it's that strong a song.
