The Strokes
OK actually you can't listen there anymore...it looks like the radio station pulled the songs, probably because they weren't authorised to post them yet. This is the SECOND TIME this has happened regarding this album, seemingly. But the songs are like...everywhere on the internet already, haha. Check Twitter or Tumblr if you have them and you're bound to find them... (I'm perfectly aware my Tumblr is filled with fangirlishness, OK :P)

Listen to Machu Picchu and Taken for a Fool HERE! Both written by the BAMF that is Nick Valensi :wacky: In theory they shouldn't be my vibe because they're so...poppy and 80s, but I think I love them :bigcry:

[10-July-2011] Coldplay @ Oxegen festival, Ireland
Exactly, I was really hesitant to do it because I'm also going to Coachella and Sweetlife in Washington DC this year (and I live in England, haha, so huge travel expenses). But I told myself that I would regret it for the rest of my life if I didn't see my two favorite bands of all time play the same stage on the same day and I could feasibly go...and compared to California, Ireland is right around the corner! Once I put it that way, it was a no-brainer. As much as I hate camping, I wish I could see the Foo Fighters and Arctic Monkeys as well, but I think I made a wise choice by going for Sunday only. I have to prioritise myself, haha.

[10-July-2011] Coldplay @ Oxegen festival, Ireland
I'M GOING. I just bought my Sunday-only pass. The reason I had to go was because The Strokes AND Coldplay are headlining the same day, the SAME STAGE. The Strokes will basically be opening for Coldplay, and I am just as nutso about The Strokes as I am about Coldplay, even moreso lately given the fact that they're releasing a new album and Coldplay's been quiet. It was like a sign from the universe for me, not only that they were both playing the same festival, but that they were both playing the same festival on the same stage on the same day. I'm still in shock. I've been doing this all night: :bigcry: OK, needed to get that out of my system . Who else is going?

When do you think LP5 will come out?
...If the album's as far from being completed as it sounds, they wouldn't mix it in March. If they mixed it so soon, it would almost definitely be out around May, and she said it wouldn't be. I think we kind of have to take her word for it, since it's official, and stop trying to find loopholes. Not to be a Debbie Downer or anything :P

When do you think LP5 will come out?
YES, some decisive answering! As much as they want to keep things secret and private about their work, with all the ridiculousness that surrounds them sometimes, I'm glad she decided to just put her foot down and answer some things. I take "will not be released in May" to mean that it will not be released around May, either. I'm really gearing up for October, here, personally.

Gwyneth...
About the whole Jay-Z thing....did she or did she not already sing with him once? Live, I mean, not on record. Obviously she meant on record on the Red Carpet, but I feel like everyone's making such a huge deal out of that one quote when she's kind of already done it before at the Royal Albert Hall anyway. As good as she looked at the Oscars, she needed some damn color. All three of her dresses were the same general color as her skin and her hair. I totally agree--I think she's got a decent voice, but this is not her forte, and it's just putting her in everyone's faces all the time, which doesn't help her image. She's already got pretty much everything, I don't think she needs a somewhat undeserved record deal as well. I was surprised that she was a competent singer, and I do think she can hold her own voice-wise, but not enough to make a new career out of when she's got a pretty lucrative, seemingly enjoyable, successful one already.

When do you think LP5 will come out?
I don't trust the tabloid or the falafel source for a second...but I do think they're probably right. I really don't see them playing new material this summer except maybe one or two new songs at best. I could be entirely wrong, but I think that's a kind of logical, realistic assumption based on where they are in the process and what other powers that be will have to say about them previewing new material on the road.

The Strokes
I have kind of mixed feelings about "You're So Right" because it's less "my style" than "Under Cover of Darkness," but I do really think it's a grower. I just kind of had to get over the creepy vibe first. The 30-second previews are AMAZING, though. I think they show real promise, even if they're kind of a bit less classic-sounding than I was hoping for. My instantaneous impression was that it sounds like most of it was recorded in 1986, in the same way that Is This It sounds like it could have been recorded in 1977. Two of them, I won't say which for people that want to save the surprise, sound almost like rip-offs of preexisting songs, though, one of which has been referred to in the track-by-track reviews.

"You're So Right," the B-side to "Under Cover of Darkness" (which is also on Angles, so it's a kind of double-A-side), will premiere on radio TOMORROW, Sunday 2/27, between 9 and 10 AM EST. This is the blog post about it, and you can listen live here tomorrow!

Tim Wheeler and The Pierces talk about Coldplay's LP5 recording sessions
I agree about how it doesn't sound great that they've been starting and stopping, and I'm not exactly keen on collaborations outside of live gigs for the most part, but I don't know, I think the stopping and starting thing sounds somewhat promising, like they're taking this really seriously and not just making another album to put out by a certain date because it's time. Not that I think they're just in this for the money or are puppets for the label, but sometimes I worry about them in terms of quality and influences and their "big ideas," and if they're taking their time and really considering what they're doing before putting anything out, it makes me feel a bit better . Probably not a popular opinion, but at least they're not rushing it.

When do you think LP5 will come out?
I think they could break the mold a bit about where they tour when...who knows, Lore, they could start with a bang in Latin America! :P I know it's unlikely because of the money thing, but they're Coldplay, they earn big bucks wherever they go, which keeps EMI happy. And it's spring in Latin America then, right? I think if they do an October release, the touring schedule could be a bit different from usual anyway--they might only do a few places in October/November and save the big things til January 2012 so they can do it all in a big sweep without having to break for Christmas.

When do you think LP5 will come out?
Another reason they should go off-label...more control over gigs and the like :D (OK, I know they probably never will, but they're the exact type of band that could pave the way for everyone else to be more in control of their own business dealings for the better of the fans). And yeah, the US has crowd-control rules that make GA areas smaller in big arenas...they could never do a Wembley where the whole field/pitch/floor is standing in America, for better or for worse :blank: "Magic Times" just makes me . I don't believe it for a second, but if it ended up being true, I would probably just hang up my dignity relating to Coldplay forever .

When do you think LP5 will come out?
Ohhh, how I wish Coldplay would break with EMI after this and start pulling crazy stunts like that . I don't know, I think they can and will play Viva stuff again at all these festivals. I think at most, they might play one or two new things and keep the rest to the classics, a kind of mix of all four albums equally like they did at the Crisis gigs. I think this is partially because EMI might have something to say about their biggest cash-cow giving a lot of previews of new things, partially because I don't know if they're ballsy enough anymore to have a festival be the ground from which they reveal new material, and partially because they're playing festivals and not their own gigs, and that they won't want to alienate non-Coldplay fans by playing new things they're not familiar with or interested in hearing yet. I consider festivals to be a kind of step down from their own tour, where they don't have as much leeway with what they want to do onstage. Yes, I know they've played new things live and at festivals before, but I think they're a bit of a different band now, and certainly one with a different perspective and different influencing factors on that decision. I don't really see the big deal with a winter tour, either...queuing is more fun in extremes! :P (and watch me die of heatstroke at Coachella :uhoh:) But yeah, big US arenas don't usually do as much queuing because US venues don't allow as many people to do GA, in general.

When do you think LP5 will come out?
I think October makes sense based on what the label has said as well. I originally guessed June, but I think that's a bit early for where they seem to be in the recording process right now. I also tend to pay a bit more attention when this locust7 guy speaks because he's been right about these kinds of things before... I think if that we're really going to get the album any earlier than July/August, we're going to start getting more news very soon, like in the next four weeks. March was when all the exciting news about VLVOD was coming out, and on average bands seem to start releasing concrete info around the three-months-before-release mark, so if people are still clinging to the hope of a June release, I think the month of March and early April is kind of a litmus test. I'm surprised how patient I am for this. I think it's because 2011 is chock-full of releases I'm excited about that will keep me mostly satisfied in the meantime. And selfishly, I don't want them to tour until after I move back to the US :P

Parlophone's A&R for Coldplay: LP5 expected "towards the autumn"
I'm more patient for this album than I normally would be, given that 2011 is chock-full of new releases I'm eagerly awaiting, but I really, really thought it would be out right before the festivals. I hope their plan is to play some new material. I feel like they could chicken out and just play all the oldies, which while highly enjoyable, would let a lot of people down. I'm only about 60% convinced they're going to play new stuff this summer, or more than just one or two new things mixed in with their usual tour stuff.

Radiohead
Agree completely--I was really hoping for a Bangers and Mash-type rocker. I was also hoping for something a little more varied. I think the whole thing is more samey than I expected.

Radiohead
I've listened twice now and am still formulating my opinions, but it seems like most of them have already been said here. I tend to fall absolutely in love with things people aren't feeling, or I'm "meh" about things that people are going crazy over, so it's kind of cool to for once think some of the same initial thoughts as other fans of a band. Everyone's doing spoilers so I'm following the trend, haha:

The Strokes
I was really bitter about the MSG date last night, because I fly home to NYC a measly week after the show. But I'm seeing them at Coachella a few weeks after that...and I have a feeling the ticket sales are going to be an absolute shitshow. I remembered how notoriously suckish it is to try and get good seats, or seats at all, for a popular band in an iconic venue. Anyway, that's me making myself feel better about missing their homecoming gig :P

The Strokes
Everything about this post :D :D I feel like I have an inordinate amount of love for the single and an inordinate amount of hate for the artwork. But there's something about the song that just really grabs me. It beat all my expectations, which were high to begin with. Oh, and NEW SONG ON TUESDAY! Albert said it was another song off Angles, but I'm not entirely sure if that means it's going to be one of the nine other songs on the actual album or if it's going to be a previously-mentioned B-side, like "Radio Minor Madness." I'm hoping for the latter.
