An EP to follow MX?
Yeah, but the question is of the era, do you know when that was? :) I can't recall with enough certainty to say 100%.

Coldplay's Twitter
I don't know what makes me giggle more, the idea of Chris using Twitter like he sometimes does, or the idea of Chris using emoticons :-)

Last bump of this thread for awhile, I promise, but I scanned this in for my blog and thought I'd share it here in readable form, because I find it hilarious:

Coldplay latest act to freeze out streaming services (Mylo Xyloto now on Spotify: 1st Feb 2012)
Yeah, with all the press about Spotify maybe being able to "save" the record industry (which I partly believe it has the potential to do), I think that's the difference. I don't know the stats on Rhapsody or anything, but I don't think they were heralded as the savior of anything, so I guess that's it :P

An EP to follow MX?
I do agree that I'm always disappointed when single B-sides are just radio edits or live versions or remixes as opposed to new tracks. But they "have to" do nothing, no matter how much they have in reserve. I think the X&Y sessions were rumored to have the most unused material that got shelved, and we've never heard any of it. Just because it almost made the album doesn't mean it's going to come out, necessarily.

My wristband has started to rip :bigcry: So much for keeping it on forever...it's now got water inside of it from showers, which could turn icky. This makes me much sadder than it should.

An EP to follow MX?
I know a lot of this thread is just fun speculation, but I have to say that I'm surprised that people are already clamoring for an EP in multiple threads when we JUST got the album. Anything's possible, but I don't think Prospekt's March set a trend for how Coldplay are going to do releases from now on or anything like that--I actually think The Oracle said the same thing in the past few weeks and months. Can we just take a breather and enjoy what we have for now? It's still fresh out of the box! Before and around the VLV release, there were rumors about VLV maybe being a double album or something similar a la Kid A and Amnesiac--I don't remember how those rumors started or what they were based on, but they did end up being somewhat true with the announcement of PM. This time there aren't rumors, which doesn't mean it won't happen, of course, but I'm just putting it out there. Re: Carkids--I do find it slightly annoying that they've got the name "Carkids" everywhere, like on their clothes and in the "CK" symbol and in the graffiti while it's not a song or a lyric and don't have an explanation for it, but...every Coldplay era has had at least ONE song that never saw the light of day that the fans have begged for, like "So Sad" (we got a clip of that in the end, though), "Deserter," "Famous Old Painters" (we got the instrumental of that, but still) and the list goes on forever. I think it was a song that they were going to put on the album so they went ahead and decorated everything with its name, but when they did the last-minute tracklisting, decided it wasn't going on the record. I do hope it'll end up as a B-side or something, because knowing the title of an unheard song makes it more "real" to you and makes you want it more, but at the same time, think about the hundreds of songs, ranging from demos to full-fledged mastered almost-album tracks, that are sitting in the vault never to be heard. A painful thought, yes, but I think it's kind of silly in that sense to get all worked up about one unknown song that we know the name of when there are countless more that might be better that we're just as likely to never hear.

Coldplay latest act to freeze out streaming services (Mylo Xyloto now on Spotify: 1st Feb 2012)
I just think that it's more of a big deal in the press etc now because streaming services are more relevant than they were a few years ago, especially with Spotify becoming available in the US this year. Six months ago, most Americans had no idea what that was, and now there's a huge number of American subscribers, which is a huge, huge chunk of the music market.

Coldplay latest act to freeze out streaming services (Mylo Xyloto now on Spotify: 1st Feb 2012)
This is a very good point, about them being in a position to decide things on principle alone. I guess I'm just unconvinced that their business team would willingly pass up an opportunity to make more money in any way, because they seem to me like they're quite eager to make as much as they can off the Coldplay cash cow. But like I say--I'm a 20-something with a laptop and a degree in media  I guess I'm also thinking of it in idealistic terms as well: though I'm not kept up at night by people pirating music, and though most bands (Coldplay included) make it clear they're not either, I do buy into the idea that services like Spotify have some impact on legal vs. illegal ways of consuming music and at least have the potential to start to shift music consumer practices over time. Besides the royalty aspect, the idea of listening to music through new and legal means appeals to me, and I would think it would appeal to artists as well, given the alternative. But at the end of the day, the alternative is probably always going to reign and they're probably aware of that.

It's in MM :wacky: PS: you told me you downloaded Zane's set that he did before Coldplay came on, I think...is that also in MM? I haven't found it, but I also didn't look that hard :P

Concerts/Artists you have seen/Are planning to see
I had an epically good time both times I've seen DCFC, especially when I saw them this August--I think they put on a fabulous live show, and the setlist I had this time around was to die for in terms of my favorites! For my own updates: I saw Coldplay twice in the past 2 weeks (yeah yeah, have at me), and I've still got The National in December

Coldplay latest act to freeze out streaming services (Mylo Xyloto now on Spotify: 1st Feb 2012)
Being persuaded by people who do need the money, I think. I don't think the bandmembers are idiots or naive children at all, so this is why I'm frustrated by things like this. I mean, in the end, what do I know, I'm a 20-something with a liberal arts degree and a laptop...but I just feel like their decisions are mostly made by people who THINK they know best in terms of money, first and foremost, and who are very good at persuading the band. And I think most times, they've been proven at least mostly right, so maybe I should shut up, but in this case, it all seems silly to me. The numbers and stats speak volumes to me about the future of music and where the money still can be made from record sales.

Coldplay latest act to freeze out streaming services (Mylo Xyloto now on Spotify: 1st Feb 2012)
Singles are a given, but I totally agree about the iTunes stream in relation to the whole-album argument. I think this is purely about how they think it's best to make money, not about any ideal way to listen to new music, that's just a cover. It just...doesn't compute to me, is all--I feel like they're not thinking logically about what the average music listener's thought process is with regard to obtaining music. Just because a person can't listen to a record on Spotify etc. doesn't mean they're going to go straight to iTunes or Amazon or the record store next--they're going to find it on filesharing sites. I'd rather get 0.085p/stream than nothing.

Coldplay latest act to freeze out streaming services (Mylo Xyloto now on Spotify: 1st Feb 2012)
Unsure how I feel about this, really. Yeah, it sounds like Spotify gives a pretty raw deal in terms of royalties for streaming, but services like Spotify help to keep illegal piracy down (nothing could ever stop it, but it does help). I feel like if I were Coldplay, I'd rather get pennies for what's streamed rather than nothing at all for filesharing, but what do I know. Also, I'm probably mistaken, but I SWEAR that MX was streamed on Spotify at least temporarily--I saw a bunch of friends listening to it on release day popping up all over my Facebook news feed!

Patches Pictures??
If you go a few pages back in this thread, someone made a HUGE vectorized version of the logo! I also found another (smaller) one from this board, enlarged it, and made stencils based on it and put them on shirts with spray paint, which worked fairly well...I just love that logo as well!

Anyone have Coldplay tattoos?
Aww, that's good advice, thank you! :nice: The thing is, I actually have a really high pain tolerance--I've been told I don't really perceive pain like other people do. It's more the IDEA of needles that gross me out, that they're going through SKIN, which should not be punctured/opened except in extreme circumstances. I'm weird  I actually don't even have my ears or anything pierced for this reason, but the idea of tattoos freak me out SLIGHTLY less than piercings because ink is just being injected under the skin, rather than going straight THROUGH something (which makes me feel sick just thinking about it).

The Strokes
Me too, but they're one of only two bands that I think could go downhill in terms of quality and I'd still go see them and love them. I'd be frank about what I thought about the music, but they (and Coldplay) mean so much to me that unless the band or the people started to stand for things that I found like, morally repulsive, I'd still have more than a soft spot for them :wacky:
