  1. Oh thanks for the info Humma! Here's the transcript: WOMAN: Violet Hill is actually a bit heavier than I was expecting, which I'm very much into. It's got distorted guitars through it, Chris Martins vocals sound a bit grittier... its still distinctively Coldplay and there's this piano breakdown in the middle of it. But the verse, when I was listening to it, I thought actually this wouldn't go amiss on the last Elbow record or something, its kind of more down that route. So yeah, thumbs up! MAN: Well if thats prickled your curiosity, you can hear the single here on (BBC)6 Music next Tuesday... so thats Violet Hill which will be playing out on the 6 Music airways, at 12:15(pm) on the 29th.
  2. There will be links on this site after its been played on the radio, I promise
  3. Hey, I think I might be getting that too! These student loans are awesome
  4. Oh, isn't Radio One doing the album history and stuff too? God this is so confusing.
  5. Well I read that the show starts at 10AM, so lets hope they don't play it that early for our fellow americans... but I will be tuning in at 10am sharp for sure. But we DO know that on XFM it will be played shortly after midday, in case you miss it the first time around on BBC6. And of course there's that big news on XFM the day before, but the time they announce it that hasn't been clarified. Which NOW means that I wont have a life on Monday OR Tuesday. Hah.
  6. I hope so to. I just need to get up early enough, haha! If you can't record it, no worries. I'll try put up a link as soon as possible afterwards  57 hours away!
  7. It WORKS! I had to tweak the recording settings a little, but it works like a charm. Thank you so much! :nice: I am on a laptop, but I have an external soundcard connected via USB, which makes it possible to record 'WAVE/MIDI'. So I recommend this to everyone who wants to record it! I havn't tried it, but apparently the "What U Hear" option is the best for those on desktops! Thanks again
  8. I've used something similar (Adobe Audition CS3) but it doesn't allow recording straight from the soundcard. Does this work without the need of any wires? If so thanks!
  9. I'll probably attach a poll to this one too, if I think of something useful. And I realise that this might be in the wrong section, but if a mod wants to move it to the multimedia section once links start appearing, thats fine by me. Basically, I wanted to make this thread ask fellow coldplayers, who will attempting to record Violet Hill on Tuesday? Because if anyone is going to spread the song around after its premiere, its probably going to be us. I was planning to record it myself, until I realised I had left the necessary equipment at Uni, which always helps immensely. The only way I would now be able to record it, is through software which adds 2 seconds of a loud and annoying noise once every 60 seconds to the recording. Better than nothing? Sure. Annoying as hell? You bet. Although, I'll still be recording it this way anyway, in case its the best method we have. So if you don't mind me asking, will anyone be able to record the song / show without these restrictions that I'm experiencing? And if so, can you suggest any free software for us, to allow us record it without any annoying handicaps? I think that the more people that can have a shot at recording, the more likely it'll be to have a decent recording done by 12:30pm! We can make this work if we pull together!
  10. That would probably be even better than listening to it on my own on my bed in my room for me. Even without music, those night walks on beaches are amazing. And making massive sandcastles, when I have the patience :P Did anyone here actually ever download that Castles compilation? Very random though, I know.
  11. Elbow - Fugitive Motel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCqfVqFi0hs&feature=related
  12. Hahaha, thats genius  I managed to download the whole of the new VLVOD torrent, and it's passworded like the other one. Also, each mp3 was modified in late 2007... so my verdict is, that its 95% likely to be fake. I think we should get a little less desperate when Violet hill pops up on tuesday, since thats like 10% of the album. Plus A Spell A Rebel Yell in the first week of May.So HOPEFULLY we'll have plenty to chew on before June 13th (when it WILL leak :P). We're so close!
  13. I think the advice you gave in points 1, 3 and 4 are very good, and I'll definitely try to do most of things to maximise the experience. The one thing i can't do though, is listen to music I care about or have been anticipating while doing something else, if its my first listen. Sometimes I think even playing certain music in the car doesn't do it justice. But I'm afraid i think the best way I'll get the most out of this album is by sitting alone in my room in the dark on my bed with headphones on. That way you can listen to the music as it was crafted - with no background noises or distractions. Thats my personal method of enjoying it, but obviously after the first few plays I wouldn't be afraid of playing it loud through the downstairs speakers or whatever, with other people around. As you said, the music was initially made for you to listen to it individually. And i want that first impression to be as good as possible without having other people commenting between tracks or whatever. And i think headphones are the best way of listening to an album anyway, in its pure form... even on the best of stereos, I can't help but feel that it does the music a bit of disservice. Although once I know the music off by heart, I don't hesitate to play it full blast on the stereo ;) But great advice overall, although I'll find it a bit difficult not to listen to any old Coldplay music for the week leading up to VLV. We'll see how that goes :P
  14. Congratulations.
  15. Nice one! And no worries about the cheating, because I do that too :P There's a short song i did a few weeks back in which i made piano riffs sound like electric guitars by distorting them. There's a bit of strumming going on in the background, but thats pretty basic stuff: http://www.sendspace.com/file/g043i4 Just add the right amounts of reverb and distortion and it sounds pretty good. PS - I finished uploading the song in my last post.
  16. Dude, I really like it. All three tracks are ideas that you could definitely expand on, my favourite is the third one, since thats the sort of sound i'm going for at the moment. You're definitely not crap, you're better than me anyway. Anyway, I like the melodies you've got going there, and its definitely my kind of music ;) When I get back to uni I'm hoping to finish up on 2 or three tracks (because thats where I've left my keyboard for now) but this is an instrumental of one of the tracks I'm working on: Anchored (unfinished) Instrumental Its long (7 mins) but my favourite part of the song starts at , if you find the first bit boring. Its also not perfect quality, theres distortion and clicks near the end, and of course my piano playing skills are no where near good. What part of the UK are you from by the way, Fixed?
  17. Yeah we were told about this website in one of our lectures last year. The guy who set up the webpage was a Uni student apparently. I think I heard several people slapping their foreheads in that lecture for not thinking of the idea first :laugh1:
  18. *heh, this post was pointless*
  19. Good! They've got lots of great songs which are better than that one, but not all of them are on youtube. I might bump the Powderfinger thread once i find some more videos ;)
  20. Powderfinger: Lost & Running Actually listening to it, I might be wrong about them sounding british, but who knows really. But they have that classic rock sound about then either way IMO. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ni_QkdyHLUk&feature=relatedAnd DCFC is Death Cab For Cutie.
  21. DCFC do sound quite american to me, but that might be just me. And when I first heard the Shins I thought they were an english band, so I guess they fit in for me :P And Powderfinger are an Australian band who I think could also pass as being an english band.
  22. You must be the first person ever to have said that apart from me.
  23. That must have been the best day of your life (or one of the best)! And I can't believe he told you about his plans for violet hill! You're very lucky.
  24. Hahaha, well the thing is, ever since i came back home from uni, i havn't really had the freedom to go out and buy them. How would I justify coming back daily from the shops with a tube of Pringles in each hand when my mum expects me to be eating healthily? Plus, I would have to take a bus into town every time i felt a craving for them, and that would be DAILY, so its an expensive business. I hope to feed my addiction in two weeks when i get back to uni though! Lets hope that I can hold out for that long :P Your very kind to be so concerned for my well being though :nice: :P
