:)Ahh.. from Zen-master Paul then!:cool: How true - sometimes, in the absence of prominent geographical markers and topography, it seems like everything extends into infinity in all directions.. I can visualize that!;) Maybe a reference to a moment of confusion as well, and a sense of allowing someone else to pilot a craft, where passengers are only aware of the movement, but specifics are left to others, so as to create a sense of going places without knowing the details... I'm think what it must be like to be in Bono's shoes, or in anyone's shoes who travels all over constantly, and after some time there really is "no line on the horizon", as any direction (in life as well) could be just as right as the next...

Here's some hints: "The treaty (Louisiana Purchase) which Livingston and Monroe sent home "aroused constitutional scruples" in Thomas Jefferson's mind, but the times demanded quick action, and Jefferson yielded to his friends. Strict constructionist arguments were taken up by the New England Federalists, but had no effect. & : in an attempt to safeguard American interests during the relentless duel between the British (under the Crown) and Napoleon was his passage of the Embargo Act of 1807. The attempt was to bring pressure to bear upon both world powers by suspending American commerce with either Britain or France. And you can imagine how well that went over with American traders, especially New Englanders! So, the Federal government exercised arbitrary power and infringed on individual rights to enforce the ban, thus violating some of Jefferson's most cherished principles (penned into the Bill of Rights); and it failed to work. Jefferson, at the end of his career repealed it, and ended his term in office with low popularity. So, there went a lot of the idealism.. Looking at Strict Constructionists, it means those who interpret the Constitution based on the arguments given during the ratifying process, and to "sell" it to the states, a weaker Federal Government was proposed, and State's rights given higher priority, according to the 1st article of the U.S. Constitution. Later, strict constructionists would use the argument during the antebellum period to argue that powers of the Federal Government should be strictly controlled (State's rights) - as I recall, as a way of mollifying states where slavery existed.. In relation to more current times, here's a good article to read (and ponder the past few years under GW & the Neo-cons..): http:www.strike-the-root.com/52/younga/younga7.html I think, if what's being asked is Jefferson's response and change from appeasement to defense against the Barbary pirates, that's not so much militarism as simply national defense (and global justice against pirates). It contrasts sharply with the twisted interpretation the neo-cons give it...

Greetings Josh Guthrie! Well rounded - that's an excellent way to approach things it seems, as then you have a good understanding of the other music parts in any group you're with.. Woodie Guthrie would be proud of you! And I think you have an excellent approach to seeing the development of music, from folk and the story-telling aspect that goes with it, to modern forms (often built upon the folk songs). All I do well at is keyboard and occasionally hand drums (mostly for fun), and I used to be able to play flute as well. Anyhow, keep up the great work!! -from Chuck.

I'm not as familiar with Van Dieman's land, although there was NUMB, and Dave sang at the end of one of their songs in perfect acapella - name of the song escapes me - maybe it was "stuck in a moment" in a live performance @ Slane Castle?;) It was a great performance, either way!:cool:

Jarring loose some poorly-connected neural circuits here, and please correct me, as it's been ages since I've thought of this - but the title - to what does that refer? I keep thinking of Muhammad's revelation when he spoke to God, and saw the sunrise everywhere on the horizon.. I'm just not sure how the story goes, but is there a connection?? Hmm! I'm not sure - I suppose they can be either, depending on circumstances.. Mostly, I think it's just some movie our mind makes up to entertain up while we're sleeping - usually a re-run.;) I've watched dogs sleeping - they're funny to watch - as they dream about chasing balls, or playing.. sq.
