  1. Martin wasn't quite the sensation that Gwyneth was when they met, but basically that's true. Still, as far as wooing an actress, it works! So, Gary needs the singing career. Sheet rocking is not the kind of rocking that gets you noticed!:laugh3: Yea, I kinda thought that she might have a hobby like that. But that's better than getting hitched to a gal who earns her living dancing topless or bottomless.. (but then again, this is Gary, so he's fine with that too!). Hmm.. Obsessive Doll Collecting. Check.;)
  2. Take solace in the fact that Albert Einstein (Uncle Albert in a Beatles song - extra credit of you can name that tune:P) got D's (low low grades near failing, for those under a different grading system) in mathematics, and had to be tutored in math much later in life. So, assuming we all must be perfectly adept at this or that is a false assumption. I think each one of us has a place where we fit in; a role to play on this spinning marble in space, areas where we excel, and areas where we are less nimble at maneuvering through. Non-linear thinking does not occur when one is only on a strait line..
  3. Well, Christopher Martin married Gwyneth Paltrow, so these things aren't impossible! I told Gary he's gotta get famous first though - I think that helps.:) He's convinced that he has a future in either comedy or singing, but then that narrows it down to 1 in 1,000,000,000 odds. :laugh3: But hey, you just never know. For every 4 people that get struck by lightning, at least 1 wins the lottery!:lol:
  4. Hmm.. I wonder how the grapefruit trees manage?! Anyhow, looks like you had a little fun in it!! :)
  5. Glogg yes, Gluehwein nay. :rolleyes::laugh3: But back to the all-important question. Please offer some feedback. It isn't like someone else we know hasn't married fame and fortune...
  6. Gluehwein - Pardon?? It's a legitimate question - tell me what you think!:rolleyes::laugh3:
  7. I need your professional opinions on this: Should Gary from Fish Creek marry Marie Osmond? Gary's a comedian, and he's got the hots for Marie - and Gary's convinced Marie's a librarian type who needs a sensible down-to-earth husband who can bring out her wild side. :P Now granted Gary knows Salty Lake City (via delivery truck routes), but he has never met Marie Osmond. I cautioned him about her strong teeth that could leave more than just nibble marks, but he's convinced they were meant for each-other.;) What should I do? What would bring Marie and Gary together in some relationship? Does Gary really know what he's getting himself into?? Is a wedding involving a fish boil, unleavened bread, and cases of Blatz beer possible?:laugh3:
  8. Ana Ivanovic - hmm.. well she looks cute, but I just don't know her!:) OK how about ... Kate Moss
  9. Lord Kelvin's scale was created as a way of measuring temperatures down to the coldest temperature possible, at which point all molecular motion stops. For the Combined Law equations, temperature is given in degrees Kelvin so the basic physics & mathematical framework for the equation works. All you really need to know is - just add 273.15 to celsius values to get the Kelvin temperature. If you want to know what it really means, take a few calculus courses, lean partial derivatives, and then take a course containing the physics of molecular motion.:P
  10. Real gases are pretty close to ideal gases in their behavior, unless you get very near absolute zero (0 Kelvin). This is nice, since most of the equations work smoothly, and you can get a good estimate for mass balances, etc. in equations. Anyhow, it always amazed me how gas molecules could behave as so near to the theoretical ideal - sometimes nature really does work like it should! Extra Credit (20 points) - Since high compression engines are closer to the theoretical maximum efficiency of an engine, what are three reasons why we don't use more high compression engines? What are some ways of overcoming these obstacles?
  11. Yes. The Combined gas laws - Charles' and Boyle's - you can split them up if you like, but it's just basic relationships. I prefer to use the formula PV/nT=PV/nT vs. PV=nRT even for room temperatures and normal pressure, as it's more flexible in the long run, and often we're faced with not normal conditions (auto engines climbing mountains, or rocket engines, etc.). One thing to note - when you look at those charts (cycle diagrams) showing the various cycles, it's important to note that the expansion phase doesn't go the full length, and there's one point where energy is lost that could otherwise be doing useful work. This is because a piston can only travel as far as the crank allows, and unless there's a separate cylinder for expansion on a longer stroke, the gas still has some expansion to offer before being exhausted. Various other schemes work well - extra cylinders, exhaust turbines, etc. I like the jet engine cycles the best, as they work on constant temperature and expanding volume, but not exactly something that one would put in a car (yet). There was someone at Texas A&M working on a low-pressure "low speed" brayton or Rankine cycle engine - a nifty thing that ran like a reverse compressor for refrigerants, and it looks promising, if the materials can hold up and it's not too noisy.

    Hello keane2011:) Minnesota has an Xcel Energy Center?? Hmm! I thought Madison did? Something new! Anyhow, glad you're on board - & Yah, Minnesota has some great schools! MIKA?
  13. OOPS! HELLO LORE!! So all the big bands play in Santiago??:drummer:?? I'm always amazed at who you meet sometimes - here, we had U2 passing through on their way to Michigan, and they were in line at the Citgo store in town.
  14. I'm going back to the old Pagan traditions - since any true Conservative always goes back to the good-old days (of Celtic circles and bonfires..:P).. I do miss all the lights and stuff - I might actually go get a tree, and have some semblance of Christmas cheer.. err. Pagan ritual celebrating the re-birth of the Sun, and the new year dawning. Now where did I put that drum??:sunny::hippy:
  15. :rolleyes::laugh3:I love it! But I love being a lazy slob even more, so that's a hard transition to make!:P I always thought GOOP was that hand cleaner stuff which gets off all sorts of grease and tar, and smells like oranges!:thinking: But hey, maybe her life is great?! But that's not where great art comes from.. One has to suffer to feel the meaning in things, and be made aware of the senses.. I should offer her a few sessions up here in the frigid north woods - I might even make a hot-tub for her, is she's willing to make the trip..:lol:
  16. It's that big a deal?:stunned: Hmm.. I need to get with a band!:rolleyes::laugh3:
  17. :rolleyes::laugh3:And here I thought this was a thread about the Lovely Gwyneth Paltrow, star of Broadway, Hollywood, and heroine in the latest Wonder-woman flick!:P What what? Sure, she's got the bucks, but that's OK - she's a green like many of us, and rarely eats meat - sparing more for the hungry in the world. I know, most of us are just happy getting through the day alive, and somehow making the bill payments, but it's alright to live vicariously though the images of others on the silver screen.. How many would go to see a movie staring Joe the used car salesman, and his wife, the aspiring real-estate entrepreneur, as they wrestle with business ups and economic downs? That's why we watch movies!! But yes, there's a lot of people hurting with this economy. So, if the movies can offer some escape and a little comfort that not all is lost, I'm all for that. If Gweneth hasn't spent some time walking in the shoes of others she wouldn't be at all good at acting - so I trust her awareness of what we commoners go through. Anyhow, what's this thing about her GOOP? I'm lost on that reference. ?? "My life is great because I'm not passive about it." Well, there is some truth to that! Being a millionaire helps too, but we could all use a jolt of self-motivation on occasion.. And she does get down-to-earth in her travels. True in one way, and that holds for us all - it's hard to feel for someone else if we've never been in their shoes, or haven't done so recently. I know there are some businessmen who spend a few days homeless in New York to get a feel for what it's like to be homeless - it does "open one's eyes" - so we all could use a dose of that on occasion....
  18. ^^ What type of energy drink? A cranberry & valencia orange fruit salad.
  19. Hello Joilita:) Welcome aboard our Yellow Sub-marine! Warning signs - and what the song's meaning to you?
  20. Well, they might consider to 'kiss their grannies goodbye' on occasion.:P Or, maybe we should all sue for plagiarism, and take the settlement money?? I mean, hey, if they're willing to settle, then we each get a cut - right?:laugh3: Sometimes I wonder about people's motivations.. why wait till now? Hmm.. me thinks there's more pirates than just those off the Somali coast..
  21. :PIn an octopuses garden, in the shade. I'm listening to the hypnotic harmonics produced by computer fans that are running at slightly different speeds. That, and the drive motor - it's got that weird 'old projector fan' X 'underwater boatmotor' sound going. That, and for some reason the head keeps jumping around - I think the virus checker is a bit daffy..:laugh3:\ Oh, and there's a nice background of the gas flame pulses in the wood stove, with a little crackle..
  22. Stolen from a 17th century minuet. :PObviously Joe Satriani hasn't got a ghost of a chance, but maybe Coldplay stole it from another source?? It could be taken from one of Mozart's earlier works, for instance.. Or maybe Vivaldi - the Four Seasons? I still suspect they owe rights to someone who has been dead for a good 3 or 4 centuries!:laugh3: Beethoven's rollin' over in his grave as we blog..
  23. :laugh3:Why do I get the feeling that if anything even tangentially related to Coldplay comes out, everyone will clamor for it?? I should record something then, and call it: Found!:P or Life in B&W!:laugh3: Or, how about: Speed of Water.;) Then, when souvenir hunters like Beetlemaniacs get going, it'll be worth a fortune!!:laugh3::laugh3::laugh3:
  24. 555. Play Chess with it, or volleyball! Even Marvin the Robot could do that, or so the ad made the robot look like loads of fun..
  25. ^^ Isn't Halloween over? Last thing in my mouth would be a mixture of nitrogen, oxygen, water vapor, carbon dioxide, argon, neon, krypton, xenon, and a few atoms of radon; above a sea of saliva!
