  1. Maybe it's just me, but I've noticed that the music evolves over time - most songs start out a bit more emotionally serious; stay strong emotionally, but then gradually change to reflect a more positive, upbeat perspective. It seems that way with U2's One, and so Coldplay's songs have gone from the strong emotion of loss or introspection to more strong positive in general (ie - Strawberry Swing, even Viva la Vida). It may have to do with the mood of song creation, and the strong emotions that empower an individual to create, which later, given time to heal, reflect, and gain confidence, the tone gets more upbeat - goes from tragedy to triumph.? So it seems with their latest efforts.. Anyhow, just me pondering..:)
  2. So, has Coldplay won the music competition in the Olympics??:P
  3. Glad you made it back, Justin!!:hat::hat::hat: What sort of camp were you at anyhow?:)
  4. @:11 AM and watching professors from the Salk institute (& Scripps oceanographic Institute) talk about climate change and biofuels..
  5. A.) Because it will be in the nation's capitol at a time when we need to reexamine our roots, and many of Coldplay's songs relate to this. B.) Because it would be immensely enjoyable, and what could be more important than that?:P C.) Because our future depends on empathy, and Coldplay's music is all about that. D.) The future requires that we solve global issues, and Coldplay are all about solving global issues. Hence, it's for geography's sake. E.) As a former resident in the Commonwealth of Virgina, I do ordain you worthy of visiting them on the Potomac as my personal envoy.:laugh3:
  6. Is there a shortage of new stuff from Coldplay?? One thing - when a group hits the top, they get played a lot, and perhaps they need to produce more music for those interested in a musical diversion of sorts..??

  11. No, I would never get a Tattoo, but I think Tattoos are fine.:bandana:
  12. I think it's more of philosophical question. Technically, we are all naked, in essence, since our fur is so fine!:P The proximity of fabric to the skin is relative, as is the degree of furriness to each individual..
  13. Soybean Glue is good. Nice on ice-cream, and excellent adhesive for bonding wood plies. Provides a durable, tough finish to furniture, and can be used as a floor cleaner..:laugh3: (some of the above is true; the rest will require testing.)
  14. Well, it is Philadelphia where you live, so that seems only natural!:) Bells were always used for dinner on the farm - to call in the family, especially if they were out in the field..
  15. A good question..:laugh3: I've got one! Hey, did they thank Violet for the bell?
  16. 3:11 and considering which choice is truly green - fiberglass insulation, or something else?...
  17. We are but human, yet we take such enormous risks with life and limb, all for blind faith in nation, religion, belief, or commitment. Does the human in us not comprehend limits? .. How the brokers of power, safe in their towers, push chess pieces across a board; but the pieces are people, and the consequences for one merely losses or gains in a game; for the other, life, limb, sanity, and tomorrow hang in the balance.. .. more compassion, not less. more demands for peace in the world, not less. ..when the US has lost credibility, how do we regain it? Will the wisdom of Ghandi and Martin Luther be enough?
  18. An old ploy in the book of tricks is to manufacture a crisis, and use this to justify an invasion. It has been suggested by our former Ambassador Holbrook that this trick, used by the NAZIS prior to WWII, and by the Soviet rulers of old, may have been used by the Russian rulers to create an excuse to invade. He did however say that the circumstances the began the conflict were a bit "murky." I'm not saying that the current US administration hadn't done the same to justify the invasion of Iraq, so our U.S. "rulership" rates no better, and it is just speculative, but quite possible. It seems more likely, given the relative military strengths of Georgia and Russia, that Russia has a greater probability of being the aggressor. The ambitions of controlling neighboring territory are nothing new, so I tend to think it more likely that Russia's rulers are acting as the belligerents, and the west should press strongly for a cease-fire, and then for a full investigation by the international courts, as the French have been doing. But, it does give one pause to think that the leadership in Russia is merely "testing the waters" to see what reaction this draws from the international community, and use the response as a gauge to see what else might be prime for invasion..
  19. Greetings from below Canada, Valerie!!:)
  20. Well, the 12-string band did one or two Coldplay songs, so is it Just Chinese background music???:P Anywhohow, glad they're playing LIT & DAAHF!!
  21. Well, there's no chance of a sex scandal in the White House with Paris in charge!;):laugh3:
  22. A good time to move away from fossil fuels if ever there was one! Looking at the dangers of control in the hands of a few, it's clear that to be so resource dependent on a limited number of resources is very risky, and there is no better time than the present to make the change. Countries like Russia have a cyclic tendency in "leadership" - and unless the cycle is broken, this is the result. And concentrated power, be it in the hands of one empire or another, is dangerous to those living on the fringes of empire, for they're treated as pawns in some larger geo-political struggle. So often the modern way is to use the military as an offensive weapon, rather than a defense against invasion by belligerents - Georgians should be free from outside influences as much as is possible, but from the given situation, Georgia needs alliances against the old-thinking Russian oligarchs. But I wouldn't say Europe hates the US, just dislikes a certain attitude of aggressive war without first using diplomacy and/or containment - which I'm appalled at as well. We lost the moral high-ground with this aggressive behavior, and so Europeans have a legitimate gripe with US Foreign policy. But to repair the damage takes time, and trouble in Georgia is one example where we must all work together to block something even worse - namely, power brokers that want to use extortion to extract control, money, and influence. And, no more policy of appeasement either. When extortion is allowed to go on, it creates the sort of encouragement that can lead to more of the same bad behavior; so finding the answer requires both diplomacy and blocking the advances of a bully. Europe needs to be more active in this endeavor..
  23. Positives: A way to change the world.. A way of connecting.. A sense of awe in the beauty of all that is. Negatives: more pressures, less pressures.. turbulence at 13,000 feet and climbing.
  24. Economic Security I finally got a larger view of the conflict in Georgia (late, but in earnest), and not surprisingly, it's about control of a pipeline delivering a portion of Europe's energy needs, and naturally, the current Russian heads want to assert their influence so that Europe has to kowtow to the demands of Russia's power brokers. This is why I, and by no small measure alone in this, am proposing we shift to a Green Economy. Simply put, 92% of our energy needs are lost in waste and inefficiency, and depending on a few strategic resources coming from very few places is asking for trouble. Moving towards a Green Economy and a common-elements economy would make dependence based on resources less of an issue, and less and less could any one group control the very survival of any other group or nation, simply by threatening to cut off the supply of some limited resource. To be interdependent with trade over non-essential things is one thing, but reliant on critical resources quite another.. (well, obviously Swiss Cheese is important, as is English Cheddar, or Edam and Gouda from Holland, or String Cheese from America, but it's just not the same as having you country's energy supply cut off in the middle of winter! Brrr!! Putin could have that sort of chilling effect, and lest we forget, once a KGB officer, always a KGB officer.. So, this is yet another reason to move towards Green. Natasha and Boris can be trouble to Europe's Rocky and Bullwinkle, if you remember those cartoons!:laugh3:
