The Thom Yorke Thread
Yes, art does offers a fresh perspective on the world - to make new discoveries or realizations, we often need to view things in different ways - quite a useful creative tool!

The Thom Yorke Thread
Rainbows Origins Looking back a few years to the mid 1980's, there was a magazine called RAINBOW, and it was quite a popular one for the TRS-80 COLOR, TDP System 100, and Dragon & MC-10 computers. Does this have any connection to the name of "In Rainbows" as a cover?

The Thom Yorke Thread
Yes, that is true - they're everything else, and then some! Sort of those thoughts we keep in the back of our minds, bubbling to the surface.. A way to feel that isn't like the typical pop or rock, or really anything else! One good thing about art & radiohead - it does open the window for thinking outside of the box!

Random Coldplay thoughts...
If reverse really makes it better?:laugh3: I'm happy to find their undiscovered gems on YouTube instead.. Rise and Fall is nice as an instrumental piece!

The "I Can't Believe There isn't a Thread about Eels" Thread
The more you know, the more your eyes squint! So is the universe random, or is there order?:P (I favor the idea that "random" is actually not a real concept, but ever increasing states of all things are really what "random" is, and it is this that drives the universe. In my mind, God is blowing soap bubble through a soda straw in the drinking glass (& that is the compete universe.. A Mister Bubble Universe!) And we're just part of the mid-sized bubble, a little to the left of center.:laugh3: Yes, Eels sound incredibly creative - if time permits, I will check them out! PS- Random is that little extra-foamy stuff off to one side on the frappuchino..

coldplay is colourful!
How true bobantang! YGWV! I suppose colors draw attention - maybe there's some logic to it, or maybe it's just an unintended consequence of the way songwriters work? Since music paints a portrait in our minds, it does make sense..:)

Ron Paul for President 2008
Soap Box He has some very valid points, and I'm glad to see him in the race, as he brings these issues to the forefront - we have lost touch with the US Constitution, and need to get back to its real meaning - I agree wholeheartedly! But I'm an advocate of honest, effective government, not the elimination of most government sectors as Paul advocates - some things (social safety nets) are there to lift people out of desperate times, as things happen (such as diseases, disasters or market failures), and what I feel needs to be done is to get the big money out of politics, and let everyone who's interested hold an equal "share" of their candidate. Matching funds are one start; limiting contributions to no more than the average weekly wages of someone earning minimum wage (let's say $260 for the US), and corporations can't donate - only real people. Since a free press is essential to our democracy, and fair elections are a right, by which all other rights are protected, then I believe we must open up the public airwaves and allow for plenty of public access in the print media for all viable candidates to have equal access to the press. (what they do then is up to them - at least the contest should be fair). What we have now is a pay-to-win system, which rigs everything in favor of the most aggressive donors. As Thomas Paine said, "Voting is the right by which all other rights are protected." What might be added? How about equal access to the press for candidates, and a free press, unencumbered by corporate monopolies?! Since the airwaves are public, and use by broadcasters is a priveleged use of a public commons, then I think it only fair, for the preservation of our Republic, that equal access be granted to candidates. Well, that's my soap-box speech! Like I said, I do like Paul's stance on defending the constitution and returning to it's true meaning - just I see the need for government agencies to promote the common welfare of the people, and to provide a referee function in society.

I NEED ADVICE...OR AT LEAST A GOOD RANT!! (The 'Evil Neighbours' Thread)
more than you really wanted to know.. I know - more advice!:laugh3: I would go to the Canadian equivalent of the FBI or ATF, if the police are in on the drug money, etc. I know of one retired policeman from Milwaukee who told me of such things, and I was saddened to hear how bad things had gotten.. My bet is the monster you are dealing with wants to mess with you / hold power over you by trying to drive you nuts. If they get you upset, and you show it, then he (or they) have gotten what they wanted. Best to lay the law down in no uncertain terms, but you will need some backing. So, here's where those good friends can help! Just give him a clear understanding, like a teacher or police officer has to do on occasion, and back it up. If he's totally nuts, he will just keep on with this behavior, and then something drastic enough has to happen to wake him up. I'm betting that turning the power off would help (once again, there's safety in numbers). If all else fails, you should be able to get the interest of the Canadian ATF, FBI, or SWAT team in your area.. But I suppose this could get some innocent by-standards in trouble.. Hmm.. well, a good foam fire-estinguisher helps. If all else fails, stay with some friends until you can get a safer place. :\

US economic growth drops sharply
Yea, our local paper was full of foreclosure sales! Well, this is one good reason why we need to get the money out of politics, as best we can - when wall street pays off politicians to weaken reg's on the "Banking Industry", and the results are all too predictable in the gambling houses of the market, coupled with the hidden interest hikes in these mortgages. So, let's see - we go from S&L crisis to Enron and Worldcom to the Interenet Bubble to a Housing "Bubble".. I think the housing bubble is the worst, because it's so very disruptive on people's lives; the hidden clauses in these loans make me wonder about the ethics of lending institutions in general.. Unregulated markets were one factor in the collapse of the 30's; hopefully, we'll get that lesson before it's too late.. We need better market regulations, honest and open government, and a free press.

Edwards to quit White House race
We Need Reform! I really do like John Edwards, basically because he really does care about the poor in America and elsewhere, and his financing is among the more honest. I got a chance to talk with him in Milwaukee during the 2004 Caucus gathering, and he's really a good person. But, like anything here, politics is driven by the money game, and the big stakes players (who donate to get back) put their money behind those whose influence can be bought. Edward's financing was too clean for them! So, unfortunately, this means the media & ad blitz still sways people heavily, and the money buys exactly that. I'm backing Barack over Hillary due to the effect money has, as I feel he is the more honest remaining candidate, and I hope Edwards does the same! It's a shame we don't have campaign reform measures that are effective, because Kucinich and Edwards would have come out on top then..

Tell me something about you that I don't know
Hey, like it's just beautiful here! Yes, the roads are glare ice and it's frickin' cold; my driveway looks like the sands of the Sahara, as I'm sure everyone else's does in Canada as well - but hey, at least it was a sunny day!:sunny: I got to work on some interior trim stuff, and the kids got a day off from school... Hmm.. something about me that you don't already know? Well, let's see - I have eclectic tastes in many things, and I'm somewhat a Renaissance Man.

What are you thinking right now?
Hola! Yes, I do agree Tracie - we just have too much stuff; to maintain, to dust, to worry about - Less is More! What I'm into now is the European concept - get some really nice stuff (like a really good couch, or have one re-done with earth-friendly stuff) that lasts and is comfortable.. I was even considering ripping out all the toxic plastic stuffing in my auto, and re-upholstering with all natural stuff.. Might not have the time, but that's how I feel! (I've worked in plants that use plastics, so I know how awful the s*** is!) If I have the strength to do it, I'll re-make this whole place to be earth and human friendly - it'll make life easier, too - less energy needed every year, and comfy! Well, my brother might object, but he will have to try and stop me!!:P Anywhohow, glad to know I'm not alone in thinking along these lines either!!:) Happy Trails to You!

Tell me something about you that I don't know
:laugh3: Last night I had the strangest dream. I dreamed that I was 12 years old again, waking up in the top bunk of some bunk beds somewhere; the covers were faded red, and the carpeting was a fuzzy orange; the bunks were wooden & walnut stained; varnished (this was all so vivid!).. And below me, on the lower bunk was Dick Cheney, dressed in a pin-striped suit, like someone in a gangster outfit! But he was just waking up too - kinda grumpy, but not altogether unfriendly, and though I dislike him intensely, I just couldn't dislike him on a personal level at that moment, and we exchanged a few kind words.. Mr Cheney said that he had to go off to some important meeting, so he left. I got down out of the bunk, and wandered up a winding wooden staircase, past someone on the flight up who was looking out of a window, and then up one full level. This was an attic, with a straw-stuffed mattress on a grey weathered wooden bed, and the plank floor was covered with straw as well. It was warm and airy, and the morning sun was just rising - visible through the window. As I went down the stairs, back to the platform between levels, I turned to the person looking out the window, and here it was Michael Jackson sitting in a chair! Only, he looked more like Sir Edward Scissorhands, and there were black stitches in his otherwise white lips. He was a ghastly pale color in the moonlight, and he did say something, but he spoke too softly to be heard intelligibly. So, I didn't quite know what to say or feel (awkward moment), and I looked at him briefly before going down back to the room with the bunks. Then I woke up. That was weird! Anyhow, just thought I would share that..:)

Gwyneth...
Yes, sadly that's what sells. Can you imagine a headline: "Couple Very Much Enjoying Life; Everything's Fine!" How many magazines would that sell? "If it weren't for bad news, there'd be no news at all... gloom, despair, and agony on me.."!:laugh3:
