  1. Well, who knows what really went on - that's best left to a jury to decide. As far as a % of doctors prescribing too much of a given medication, at levels that are clearly dangerous or deadly, it happens, I will attest to that! Either by arrogance, ignorance, or by simple unintended mistake, it does happen. Some will simply never own up to their own mistakes, but then who else is involved may make a difference as well. I say, just let the jury decide, if there's enough truth that comes out and sheds light on what went on. Innocent unless proven guilty, let the peers decide.
  2. Welcome to the forum Luciana :sunny: :guitarist: >Glad you've been a fan for a long time - and enjoyed them in concert! YAY!! All you need is love!:):flutterby: How one word changes the world.;) > Lost here? Well, it's a bit quirky, but just play around with it for a while, you'll catch the hang of it. the Lounge is where it's at, so you've found the lounge and all it's inhabitant - enjoy! Forward any questions to the Ian and Jen help desk, they run this show, and can tell you all it's secret goings-on, demystify the place. You can ask any of us, while none of us know it all, collectively we sense the whole elephant, from trunk to tail. :elephant: Hope to see you around! -from Chuck.
  3. Successfully making 3 sheets of Kolachys!:)
  4. Once in a great while I sleep on a couch, which usually doesn't do any harm, but sometimes my back muscles get pulled or strained in some strange way, and I find it almost impossible to stand up. Is that how it is with her? Generally then I sleep flat on a stiff mattress or even a carpeted floor with just a heating pad supporting the arch of my back, and rest - be real careful not to strain the muscles further, keep the back warm and properly supported, and wait. It may take up to a week or two to fully recover from a severe back strain. Sometimes this happens when the weather turns cold and I don't have the right warm clothes to protect my back, on those windy days walking out in the woods - suddenly it's like a muscle cramp. I've herd that not having enough calcium or an electrolyte imbalance may affect the muscles, or if one is starting to do a great deal of lifting using the back muscles after not having done so for a while, then strains can happen. Patience, support, no sudden moves or drafts (suggest that she wear warm fuzzy sweaters), and slowly it goes away, and when it does, it's like heaven. Unless it's something else, which it could be, but usually it's a back muscle sprain. ;)
  5. Gleetings and Velkommen to the Coldplaying primordial soup! Have a sip, stay for seconds. :laugh3: Juanita Stein of Howling Bells sounds like a fascinating singer, I'll have to look her up!
  6. I would much rather read a logical debate, where both debaters could sit and reason, then respond in written form or at least independent of needing to be present at a debate floor; I believe we are at our most logical when allowed to reflect in a comfortable setting, and consider without adrenaline and time constraints the questions being raised. But aside from that, I missed this important discovery! New research rejects 80-year theory of 'primordial soup' as the origin of life Although the article doesn't mention how the nucleotides hook up, and so I wonder, if simply clay or decomposing feldspar provides the template from which the replicator molecule gets it's chain?
  7. Interesting news Jay, Al Jazeera had a piece on the economic trouble in Europe, looks like things have already spread to Italy and to other countries, which may make the failure of Lehman Brothers look tiny by comparison. Interesting but perhaps perilous times.
  8. :shocked2::( Oh my, that is a massively tragic scene, my heart goes out to all those involved. I hope those who were injured are comforted, and the families who lost loved ones have the comfort of friends and family.
  9. ^^What a name for a city! :laugh3: and there is a Lower Hutt, New Zealand as well! > Vadodara, India :sultan:

  13. mmm, fair trade chocolate brownies!! Hm, now I'm hungry!:laugh3: You might enjoy Kolaches, they're easy - basically like a biscuit or doughnut, just dimple the middle and dollop some fruit or sweet cheese filling (or poppy-seed filling), bake in oven on a sheet, mmmm!!! quick and oh so good!;)
  14. :laugh3: Tarts.
  15. A plot of plums perched near a precipice, with a sour-sweet peculiar piquant flavour and colour. Choose Apple Green or Plumy Purple, from Cherry Red to Lemon Yellow, all the tastes a rare nectar.:daisy::chef::sunny: Alderman, Compass, Red Diamond, Sapalta, Waneta, Toka, Pipestone, Superior; Native, Japanese, Manchurian, European, Sand Cherry or Beach Plum. Pick your plum when the bloom is on.
  16. I think the new song is allegorical poetry for making where we are beautiful and fruitful, and seeing the white rose in the sea of green. Imagine making the desert bloom; turning that dream into reality would reduce the overall pain and suffering immensely, build a world of lasting friendship and peace, and prove once and for all that extreme poverty and famine are things of the past. Imagine all the people living life in peace.
  17. Aww thanks Tracy, you're a wealth of information, a Captain Morgan's treasure trove of info! :cool3: Now I must catch some zzzz'z..
  18. Well there's Wikipedia, and then there's Urban Dictionary, and I always thought the Urban Dictionary was more of a modern compilation of various unique definitions, sayings, new words, and the like, so I would think, if it's a common term, it might last. But it sounds a bit like an uncommon term!:laugh3: Anyhow, just go incognito, that might help. :disguise:

    Welcome Lois!:)
  20. Excellent Post!;) ^^This explains my neighbors, who like to speak authentic Western Gibberish!:laugh3: I think they just like to throw it back in the face of intellectuals, and boy, do the politicians have them in mind with their messages.. uncanny in his accuracy on the assessment of our political and cultural life. Wise sages are seasoned with reason.
  21. As was similarly said on Laugh-in once by an infamous former President, "Spam it to me!"
  22. Artism? Sometimes people are not bad, just extremely shy and sensitive, so perhaps best to not prejudge; I once fancied a beautiful girl, but I couldn't find the words to say to her when she and I were near, so I wrote them in a letter instead. But I often looked her way, so I can see how normal people can be mistaken for something they are not. So we are funny sometimes when it comes to matters of the heart, too shy to speak up but forever longing. Jamesism? Followers of James, what do they have to do with this? Maybe it's Janeism?:P But sometimes there are other reasons which may compel an individual to act as a stalker. Seems like fan girls do this all the time to certain aforementioned individuals, hm??:laugh3:
  23. Pepperland is a tickle of joy on the blue belly of the universe. But it's true! I've seen Dudley Do-right & Nell, and sure enough, the setting is wayy up there! :P (actually I did see a bit on Canada's mounties in a National Geo article, so they do play an important role as peace-makers during the long winters..) I suppose they are, just nice to keep some childhood images alive, but Disney help craft that image? I don't recall them being there with Mickey and Minnie?? Anyhow, it's a good image, even if it's not accurate. At least something to aspire to. ;)
  24. That's very interesting Mike, what Noam Chomsky has to say - thanks for putting that up here. Purchasing is voting with money, and it makes a huge difference, I support ethical consumer choices; but equally, since we cannot see all that is happening elsewhere, it is up to us to change our system to ensure more honest representation becomes the norm, then regulation and policy that is rational and ethically-based generally follows. I haven't the time to test to see if there's lead in all the products I buy, or to know the subtle nuances of where it's all made, where the sub-components are made, how the workers are treated, what sort of wealth is being created and in who's hands; generally speaking though, boycotting on a personal basis does make a difference when profits begin to suffer from it, but even so, if elected officials were beholden to our interests, the legislation and policies would reflect that. Which is why I so strongly advocate for open access to the airwaves for candidates, an end to the money game running politics. For we can work from all directions to solve the problem - through better purchasing choices, better educated minds, a greater awareness of our interconnectedness, and through oversight by selecting honest representation.
  25. > Well I think it's only proper to have an invitation.:smug: And a passport too - they're such pretty things, one must have the royal seal stamped on the invitation! Of course he's not endangering American jobs, but hey, we've got to make him feel special somehow!:laugh3: Oh, and you artists - you're nothing but trouble, you might bring joy and happiness, or a sense of free expression, you know that's been banned by the newer bluer meanies!:P Artists, poets, revolutionaries, free thinkers - how are we suppose to run an effective totalitarian empire with people like you corrupting our youth? ;) The Occupy Movement needs to get some clear goals, hm.. well there are the Amendments proposed, the demand for an equitable economic system, demanded accountability for the crimes which occurred on Wall Street, a demand for real reform and oversight in the markets, more collectively owned enterprises, like worker-owned companies, credit unions, co-ops and the like. Declare that money isn't free speech, corporations are not people, drive the influence machine out of government. I keep thinking the amendments, a set of clear laws coinciding with the amendments to open up the elections process and end the buying of elections, hold fire to the feet of the politicians to get it passed. I think what we want is honest government, honest business practices, fair economics; making that happen is the challenge. How to move the capital towards diversely held companies that are either worker-owned or have workers as major stakeholders, that is one question; or reform current companies to make them democratically controlled by the stakeholders. But if enough pressure is put to bear, I am sure major reform will happen; since adopting laws to ensure diversity of ownership and prevent oligopolies from existing are a matter of applying great pressure via sheer numbers to voters on office holders and office seekers. What do you feel would be effective goals and a process towards change? Harper's government could use a little prodding, hm???:P :laugh3: Well, I gather they're more prevalent in the far north, so that's understandable. You'll have to visit the vast hinterlands of Canada!
