This would be "Expialidocious" by Pogo. He's a unique solo electronic artist in that he takes dialogue from kids films (you might have noticed the voices are from 'Mary Poppins') and adjusts the pitch to fit his own dance track. I really love the melody to this track, check him out on you-tube, he also has great music videos to go along with his songs.
Vessel - Jon Hopkins. Its on the same album ('insides') which the sample for 'life in technicolor' came from. He's amazing, his early stuff is really pleasant and almost new agey, while his most recent stuff has been denser and less predictable.
Winter Wooskie - Belle & Sebastian. Funny you should say that, as they're constantly mistaken for a 60s band, but really they formed in 1996. They’re really addictive.
haha, this is “Over The Pond” by The Album Leaf. You had it right, Jonsi is singing. They opened for Sigur Ros a lot last decade, so the members of Sigur Ros have made several guest appearances on his (Jimmy Lavalle’s) albums.
…Passing By – Ulrich Schnauss. He’s an interesting artist whose influenced a lot by shoegaze, but has a very mechanical approach to his songs. Every so many bars, it adds a new accent or riff, so you get a very rich texture. I agree his songs can sometimes get boring, but I wanted to counterbalance the heavy songs with some simpler, relaxing instrumentals.
Silhouettes In Sunsets – Feltbeats. I think I added this more for contrast than anything else. Its actually by Tom Felton, the guy who plays Malfoy in the Harry Potter films. I like the simple coziness of it.
I believe ‘Indie’ is an accurate descriptor. Its ‘23’ by Blonde Redhead. The singer is indeed female, and though her voice can sometimes get annoying, I really like this track.
Alone In Kyoto – Air. This one’s popular because its on the ‘Lost in Translation’ soundtrack. Another relaxing instrumental, but I also think it’s interesting and unique.
Machine Gun – Slowdive. Pretty straight forward ambient shoe-gaze track. Thought it might be boring, but I’m a sucker for this kinda stuff.
I Have Loved You Wrong – The Swell Season. Off the second album of Glen Hansard (The Frames) and Marketa Irglova, both made famous by the movie ‘Once’. I adore this song.
Beautiful Mind – The Verve. My favorite song off their much more shoe-gazey debut album. I mainly like the ambience created with the reverbed guitars.
Sweet Disposition – The Temper Trap. Obviously a really popular (and great) song. I fell in love with it a few weeks ago, and I figured if you didn’t like all the boring, ambient stuff I’ve given you so far, at least you’ll like this one.
Boy 1904 – Jonsi & Alex. Again you’re spot on, its off of ‘Riceboy Sleeps’ Jonsi’s ambient project with his boyfriend. All the songs on this album have a unique feel, they use only acoustic sounds (it is a children’s choir), but they mix and distort it in a way that comes out sounding very different.
Death – White Lies. Much more catchy and tangible than the previous track. Afraid you’d recognize it, but is awesome all the same.
No need to give the title :P… I’m excited you love it, this is easily one of my top 3 songs of all time because its one-of-a-kind, unbelievably beautiful and has more emotional impact on me than any song I can think of.
I love the way the melancholy of ‘millions’ segs into the guitar rhythm of this one. :awesome: song, and its :awesome: that it makes me :awesome:.
Yeah, absolutely adore it, beautiful concept, the way it just gradually builds, best ‘closer’ I can think of.
This is “I can Almost See You” by Hammock. It’s a couple of guitarists that basically make just a ton of ambient songs. I felt obligated to relieve the tension of Samskeyti with something warm, cheesy and pretty. I’m also happy you picked out the Maj7… I’m no music expert, but those have been my favorite chords to write songs with ever since learning Satie’s Gymnopedie’s.
