  1. Even their rain tarps are painted!:laugh3:
  2. I bet after all this, the gig's a belter! It always seems to go that way. (Abu Dhabi, Hershey PA etc.)
  3. That can be Very dangerous. A lot of times that causes crushing.
  4. At least that's an honest response.:laugh3:
  5. Even if the storm passes, depending on the weather previously, the stadium/gear could still be unsafe. Most of the time these things are regulated by law for Health and Safety. There have been many disasterous cases of injuries and even fatalities during outdoor gigs in unsafe weather conditions. It's not something to joke around with.
  6. Well, you can't fight that I guess. :\ I'm just glad it's not problems with Chris' throat again or something. Still, a major bummer for the people there.
  7. Due to weather, or something with the band?
  8. In all seriousness, what defines "relevant" in relation to a band? At the end of the day, it's still just all pop music, not rocket science or cancer research.
  9. In the past, VIP events have varied greatly depending on a lot of factors. I know people who had experiences all accross the board, and have heard both positive and negative reactions. I'm not really sure there's a "normal" for these, but I've not gone myself, so I couldn't say for certain.
  10. That's a bit harsh. While I have said many times (and stand by), my opinion that anyone who expects things from a Coldplay show that the band are simply not going to deliver is fooling themselves, that doesn't mean everybody has to like how things are.
  11. There's always merch at the gigs, but I'm not sure when the stuff specific to each leg goes on the website.

I think they had to go down the "pop" road eventually. All four members seem to be influenced by pop, and Chris seems positively enfatuated by it. It's not my favorite thing (though I do have a fair amount of top 40 pop on my ipod that I can't admit liking in some circles:embarrassed:), but it's definately an organic part of the Coldplay mix, and IMHO it had to come out eventually. I just hope it doesn't dominate from here on out.
  13. I don't really buy the shape thing, as there are a lot of older bands known for marathon performances (Springsteen for example.) and the CP boys seem in absolutely phonominal shape these days.
  14. I do think they play on the short side though. (although I will say that I've seen other headlinging arena acts, namely Muse and Oasis) that played sets that were both shorter and more repetitive. Funnily enough, I could understand these complaints more if they came from someone who wasn't a hardcore fan. People who follow the band closely (and this goes for any band really) have a good idea what their shows are generally like.
  15. Exactly. Anyone who follows the band closely enough to post here, should know exactly what you're buying when you buy tickets to a Coldplay gig. If what's on offer is not to you're liking and you go anyway, you have no one to blame but yourself if you're disappointed. I'm not trying to mock or belittle anyone who doesn't like the way they do shows (I feel a lot of the critisisms have at least some degree of validity.), but good heavens, how long does it take to connect the dots? Why on earth someone would expect these shows to break from the band's decade plus style of setlists/lengths/etc. is beyond me.
  16. Probably so, but to be frank, there's already been more variation on the MX tour than the whole of the last couple. Not to beat a dead horse, but it's wholly unrealistic to expect that the band will do more drastic change ups. Experience shows that's just not the way they do things.
  17. I think this might actually be from 2001. They weren't touring North America in May of 2002. It's either from the previous year, or further into 2002, though it sounds like he's describing the Parachutes tour more than the AROBTTH one. Either way, good stuff, and kudos to you on an exceptional 1st thread.:)
  18. In a way TKOL was exactly what fans expected. Radiohead have carved out a niche for themselves as an experimental act. Therefore a large percentage of their fanbase does judge quality by just how "out there" they can get. I never said Radiohead didn't want to make that kind of music, but it's tiring to hear how bands that do genuinely want to make 3 minute pop songs can't possibly be doing that out of love for their music, while at the same time ignoring the fact that Radiohead is just as guilty as any commercial pop act of attempting to meet their audience's expectations, they're just doing so for a different audience. Also, I don't think people appreciate just how much skill it actually does take to write "simple melodies that make teenage girls swoon" If it were so d#$n easy, every act would fill stadiums and the labels would be in much better shape.
  19. No, I'm saying Coldplay makes music they like, regardless of the fact that some critic may not put it on some "100 most influential records" list in 50 years time. Radiohead IMHO "experiment" and "take risks" in large part just to look too cool for school, because they know that that's what a segment of their fans (often pretentious ones IMHO) will "like".

Exactly, I think Eno has been almost like a nurturing influence on all four of them as individual musicians.
  21. I think they meant their least successful in New Zealand, which near as I can tell (from Wikipedia:rolleyes:), would make that a true statement.
  22. IMHO Radiohead have become a bit self important. They're more concerned about making "important" music than enjoyable music these days. Ok, king of Limbs may exhibit a high degree of musical craft, but how many of it's fans really put it on when they just want to chill out. Plus, though he's gotten much better in recent years, I just don't dig Thom's "woe is me" act.
  23. I know it sucks.:( I grew up in an area that was too rural to ever get any type of touring show (let alone big acts.) and too far away to make travel easily feasible.

I honestly don't ever see them leaving Eno completely behind. For some reason, a lot of the artists he's worked with over the years always seem to come back to him sooner or later. Personally, I think Eno's chief contribution to Coldplay has been to make them more of a four legged table. They're truly a band now, in the sense that all 4 members are now contributing strongly to the sound, as opposed to the older Chris/Jonny centric stuff. The other two are contributing more than just rythm stuff now. (and Jonny sounds like a proper big cheese "lead" guitarist these days.:wink3:)
