  3. down here in aus. it only takes about 20 000- 30 000 sales to get to number 1. unless you release in the same week as a big band like Coldplay or U2 or AC/DC. phoenix is up against Green Day i think? but i'm sure it will hit the top 5. our current album charts are looking atrocious.
  4. i'm upto about listen No.8 now. the album is gradually growing on me as i start to pick out the intracacies and subtlies that are littered throughout the album. Two Weeks is still quite clearly the highlight simply because i've listened to it soo many times and it's easily the most accessible and catchy song on the record. from listening to the rest of the album i can clearly see why people will describe it as being rather boring but that is also what makes this soo incredible as it truly rewards you for listening all the way through then again and then again. since this is the first Grizzly Bear album i've listened to i cant compare it to the others but going by the critical response it is much better. having been an avid music fan for the last 3 or so years i've noticed that bands of this era aren't as cautious or careful in the making of their music as bands were back in the 60s and 70s. most acts fill the voids with distortion and noise whereas in years gone by bands were much more creative in completing their sound. this record does exactly that much like Radiohead have over the past decade or so. every note has been obviously scrutinised and nitpicked but unlike Animal Collective they still have this great organic indie feel about them. this album really forces you to think about what you're listening to. so best to give it some time. alot of people have been labelling this CD as experimental. i dont get it??!!?
  5. yeah i misread the magazine article.
  6. i couldn't be bothered reading all the posts. but has anyone said anything about the free show they are doing at the Sydney Apple store next tuesday night?? if anyone wants to go its recommended that you turn up at around 6pm if you want to have any chance of getting in.
  7. LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver for only $8!! (thats about $US6.50) God bless JB!!
  8. ^^ mate we should start a JB appreciation thread haha!! i went to the JB near my uni on monday and they had almost entire shelf full of them........most were gone by thursday when i went back. Triple J has flogged the crap out of this album!! and from what i've heard NovaFM have jumped on board also.
  9. Briggins i know you dig MPP but there's little doubt that this album absolutely shits on that.
  10. hey everyone. Australian radio station triple j is about to hold the worlds biggest music poll. they want you to vote for your favourite songs of all time!! the focus here is on alternative music but you can vote for anyone you like. in their early days (Parachutes and AROBTTH) Coldplay were massively popular on this radio station and were very successful in their annual music polls (which get around a million votes every year). Here is a summary of Coldplay's success. Singles 2000- Yellow @ No. 5 2000- Shiver @ No. 63 2002- In My Place @ No. 39 2002- Clocks @ No. 69 2002- A Rush of Blood To The Head @ No. 100 2003 - Clocks (Remix) @No.5 2005- Fix You @ No. 26 2005- Speed of Sound @ No.36 Albums 2000- Parachutes @ No.3 2002- A Rush of Blood To The Head @ No. 8 Not many bands have been as sucessful in the last 10 years. Especially bands with as much mainstream success as Coldplay. I've got the feeling that if everyone on this forum gets behind Yellow and Clocks (even if they aren't your favourite coldplay songs) we can get both of them into the top 20 alongside songs like Stairway To Heaven and Love Will Tear Us Apart and Beautiful Day. i know this doesn't mean that much in the big picture but personally i would love it if one of my favourite bands did well in this countdown. Here is the link to the last Hottest 100 of All Time held in 1998. http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/hottest100_08/history/1998.htm#h100-all-time and a link to the Poll's main page http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/hottest100_alltime/ Voting opens on June 1 and will close towards the end of the month. You will get 10 votes but i'm sure most of us have multiple email accounts (school, work, secret) so if you want you can vote for coldplay (and other bands you like) 50 times. PLEASE VOTE!! PS. the album poll will be held later in the year.
  11. will that be his first show?? i was hoping he would bring in the White Stripes again but Pearl Jam isnt a bad subtitute
  12. just wondering. how bad was the quality of the leaked album?? has everyone gone on and bought/downloaded the proper version of it?
  13. 'explosion' is a good way of describing KoL in 2008. and whats with the widescreen signature
  14. album of the year anyone........so far??? this is an epic album!! i'll write more about it on friday when i get the time.
  15. ^^ the album leaked onto the internet about 8-10 weeks ago from memory. the physical cd was only released around the world this week. i decided to wait and i'm very impressed.
  16. i listened from Losing My Mind onwards and i thought it was ok. i would of listened from the start had it not been hosted by that wanker chit chat and had triple j not had an extensive interviews with grizzly bear, phoenix and karnivool at the exact same time. i also heard the title track earlier in the day which is a pretty decent song. i'm certain that this album will spawn just as many hits as the previous album.
  17. ^^ Listened to the full album on their myspace site this morning. just brilliant!! this is the first Grizzly Bear album i've listened to and absolutely love it. kills Animal Collective in the "artsy indie rock" area.
  18. Billboard has released the numbers of Radiohead Latin American tour. Over the two nights they spent in Mexico they made $US5,175,752 in two sold out shows in front of a total of 109,480 fans. In the words of Thom: Take the money and run Take the money and run Take the money
  19. that could be the reason why and why not also. why play a festival that you've played the main stage twice in last 6years? why not headline that festival that you have played early afternoon once and 3rd last the other time? i'll put my money on V festival.
  20. does anyone know what inspired the album title 'Inshalla'. just find it a little interesting that an Aussie rock band would use an Arabic word with sucjh heavy religious meanings. i know the loop on Foreign Land is taken from an Turkish song but thats it.
  21. its already on the shelves down here in aus. i've been listening to it a fair bit this past week and been loving it!! but would of been better if they made 12 short 3min pop tunes rather longer tracks. would of better suited their style.
  22. Enjoy discovering one of the greatest bands of all time. i recommend you listen to them chronologically ie. start with ten and go all the way to their self titled self titled 8th album. its what i did and boy what a journey it was!!
  23. the three bands i really wanted to see from the splendour line up were MGMT Bloc Party and Birds of Tokyo as well as the smaller ones like Leader Cheetah etc etc. but none of them are doing shows in sydney. and then theres the issue of going with someone but thats not for here. mate can we take this conversation to an IM. we're flooding the boards radiohead-fan-style.
  24. i'm very interested to see how Muse's and AM's forthcoming albums fare down here. hopefully i love the albums and everyone else hates them and its easy to get tickets to the gigs. but in this day and age especially in sydney its impossible.
