I am with you here. I also really want to love it, but so far I only like it. Hopefully that will change. First time this has ever happened to me with a Coldplay single!

Showing Sparks and then the newest single is totally unfair...You forget all the beauty in between! That said, I am still not crazy about the new single. Maybe it´s not my style, but I also think the song is too simplistic compared to previous materials.

Very nice to hear more of Johnny this time around, but I am not liking Hurt like heaven very much to be honest...I hope I will change my mind, but so far both new songs did not make a huge impact on me, unlike their previous material.

Yes, that is what I thought at first as well, but I could not envision sirens as something positive, so if we follow the siren analogy, tears (of presumed sadness) are turned into waterfalls, thanks to the power of music and those reassuring UFO lights :)

The lyrics you mentioned do not seem any more complex to me than those in the new single, but as I said this is all very subjective. Personally I have never seen lyrics as Coldplay forte , but I do like the lyrics in ETIAW and I know I am in the minority here, but alas there it is :)

Yes I get what you are saying, but it follows the theme of "every siren is a symphony", etc. I understood it to convey a buoyant feeling, where everything negative can be turned to positve, hence a siren turned to a symphony and a tear to a waterfall :)

Lyrical likes or dislikes are obviously subjective, but I definitely understand the theme in the song. It´s actually quite more straight-forward than other tracks (I still don´t get what a strawberry swing is *LOL*).

Yes evolution is good, no doubt! However , regardless of genres, there will always be tracks that stand out more than others and the new single is not really one of them in my opinion. Even though I enjoy listening to it, I hope for better tracks on LP5 :)

Yes I agree they could be called bad compared to other artists, but within the Coldplay catalogue I would say they are on par with other songs. Anyway I think the "feel" of the songs is often more important than the lyrics, and the songs makes me feel uplifted, so that probably makes me like the lyrics more :)

I don´t know about others, but I am mostly still ambivalent because I just can´t make up my mind about it. I know I lean much more towards liking it than not liking it though, so that´s a good sign :)

I respectfully disagree on the lyrics being bad (euphemism for your quoted poo :). They are very simple, but simple is not always a negative thing. I find them to be very uplifting and in sync with other Coldplay lyrics. I can think of a very few songs where Chris wrote better-than-average lyrics: most of their songs are not strong in their lyrical content. And musically speaking, well it does sound a lot viva-like to me and Johnny´s guitar riff makes it very coldplaysque, but I do not think it is one of their best tracks. That said, I still like it. Out of curiosity, what are the reasons you like Coldplay? :)

A lot of people do not like the lyrics, but to be honest they really hit home for me now that I listen to them in the context of the song with music and all. A very very uplifting song about celebrating no matter how bad things seem to be. That´s a theme that can never get too old

My thoughts exactly except I just listened to it twice. It´s ok now...we will see how I feel after the third listen!
