  1. Clocks - I woke up to my alarm clock playing it on the radio and me exclaiming "I Love You Matt Pinfield" who also mentioned how this was one of his favorite songs.
  2. lovely! did you go to a lot of shows at 9:30 or black cat? if so - im sure we've seen each other. and did you ever post to the 9:30 forum?
  3. She was the editor of Sassy magazine and that in turn became Jane (not sure what shes doing now).
  4. For anyone in NYC - the National are playing at Summerstage in Central Park. Should be a great show, if I can manage to get a ticket or bribe my way in as a volunteer ;) And turns out some friends of mine play soccer with the drummer's wife (i think its his wife vs girlfriend). Shes quite cool and very nice. We went to see Kevin Drew's show together one night (i think she went with us, but i had drank a lot so i kinda forgot the details). For all I know the national's drummer was hanging out with us and i was too damn drunk to even realize.
  5. Cant wait to hear how this is. I was supposed to go to the show, but the date change didnt work as Ill be in Chicago. My friend and I are both insanely bummed, and if the date hadnt changed Id have seen them in Chicago too :( Ah well. Im still seeing them in NJ :) Ive seen them in the DC area before (for whoever was asking) and its always been a great show. In MD more often, but same difference really. Although they did play Streets of Baltimore the first time I saw them and that was quite awesome. I think last time it was Johnny Cash covers as he had passed away not long before - but be glad youre not seeing them at Nissan. Great show, just a bitch to get to from NoVA/DC/MD.
  6. such a nice picture to stare at before i go to sleep. now im guaranteed to have great dreams! thanks! :D
  7. one of my favorite photos of Tom. and heres another favorite. and one last one :)
  8. Great video with amazing sound clarity. I was a bit further back - behind the soundboard to the right of it. Was a fun show and the weather held out!
  9. LMAO - in DC surely not! just 2 random guys near my friend and I who had the _most_ dramatic relationship I had ever witnessed. We did applaud them when they kissed because it meant they stopped yelling at each other for a bit. Naturally, the love didnt last.
  10. <----- Tom is adorable and super talented.
  11. cant wait for keane's new album and for them to tour. but im not sure much will ever compare to seeing them play at summerstage in central park. it was such a great setting and not terribly crowded. i suppose one can hope. and that was the _first_ time I had seen Keane and no couples broke up around me. In a one year span, every time I saw Keane a couple broke up but none were as great as the gay couple when the guys started fighting and then kissed and made up and then broke up again. Keane is always a good time for me :)
  12. blackbud is still around? i saw them a few years ago and loved them, but for some reason i thought they broke up. maybe that was Black Wire :) I get them kind of confused with all the 'black' band names.
  13. OMG! I so <3 you. That video is awesome and so made my work day. Guy looks yummy in it! Yes is one of my favorite songs off this album so nice to see it live! Enjoy tonight Im so insanely jealous that Im not in Chicago a week earlier :(
  14. great review. cant wait to hear who all these british artists are. i feel like i should know some of them, based on what you wrote - but you can never quite tell :) im so loving these and esp reading them when we have no clue who they are!
  15. I _knew_ I shouldnt have gone to the website but I had to read some of this for myself. I think I died laughing with my eyes watering non stop so i had to close the page, not before sharing it with all my friends. Im so telling my friends with kids how lucky they are to have them for that reason. Even the moms seem to realize they are complete nuts about this problem. I feel this way about rats and cockroaches - and can escape neither in NYC. i had to walk 2 extra blocks out of the way because I saw a rat - mind you they are like small cats here. i hope im not near someone who has this fear when I see them in concert. I might die laughing at that very moment and miss the rest of the coldplay concert.
  16. I started laughing so hard at some of those butterfly stories. Im sure its awful - I know I freak in enough situations. Ive not seen the confetti in person - but I LOVE confetti. Actually - if anyone has ever seen Im From Barcelona in concert - they should know all about confetti. There are beach balls and so much confetti Im still finding it in my purse months and months later. It was awesome and brought back all my child like memories of snow ball fights but with confetti. Purely awesome! Now time to read some butterfly stories and try not to die laughing.
  17. Guy - Ive always figured id be a bassist in a band at some time. but if I were Guy, Id not be able to keep my hands off of myself :D
  18. i wanted to add - im so glad you liked the mixtape and im glad you thought it was made for you personally. that makes me way happy. :D i re-listened to it and i was loving a lot of it LOL. always a good sign. not sure all the songs worked on the re-listen, but felt it kinda gave a good mix of most the things I listen to.
  19. 1. Gwyneth - Someone Still Loves You, Boris Yeltsin One of my favorite bands - but I chose this song because of the song title - it somehow felt fitting. I recommend checking out some of their other songs - vocals are a bit more prominent. This is one of their slowest songs - if you ever watched the OC their songs were on it quite a bit. And I started it slow because I had a plan to build up the tempo. 2. My Eyes - Travis the most beautiful song ever written by Fran Healy. 3. Post Punk Progression - Snow Patrol I believe this is a b-side. They used to play it live all the time and the crowd would get worked up into a frenzy. Its so energetic I always want to dance when I hear it. "You wont be around forever girl, you gotta grab life with both hands" - those are some of the lyrics. It sounds this way live too - almost muddled sounding. 4. Auslandmission - The Rakes one of my favorite tracks from The Rakes. Its off their demos - and the lead singer has a great voice. theres something entirely sexy about this song. 5. Dying is Fine - Ra Ra Riot they're a band from Syracuse, NY (almost local to NYC these days as they play here all the time). I love the use of all their instruments. They have a cellist and violinist in their full line up. This is quite sad - but I believe its the drummer doing the backing vocals - and he sadly died this last year at age 23 or so. Theres a beautiful sadness to the song, and its fitting the title is dying is fine. If you like this they do an amazing Kate Bush cover of "Hounds of Love" - and the violins are perfect for it. 6. Fear of Falling - Palace Fires After Gene broke up, 2 of the guys formed Palace Fires. I think the vocals and lyrics are just beautiful. 7. Thursday - Asobi Seksu Im a sucker for female vocalists and I think she has one of the most beautiful voices ever. Dreampop at its finest! 8. Cherries in the Snow - Elk City A local band out of Brooklyn. Ive always loved this song. Catchy and simple 9. The World The People Together (Come On) - The Dandy Warhols this song is actually 4:20 long or so. The beginning is all instrumental with their voices in the background (i cant remember if eno worked with them on this album). I love Courtney's breathy vocals - its straight up so sexiness. This song always reminded me of CSC the way it was done with vocals, but its very Dandy Warhols. One of my favorite bands! 10. Alabama - Birdmonster my favorite band from San Francisco. The boys are adorable, but mostly they have very catchy, fun songs that are quite bouncy. I think seeing them live would change anyones opinion of them, besides making you fall in love with Pete - who has a similar look to Guy - but is much more spastic on guitar! 11. Colorguard - Division Day some beautiful lyrics and such a beautiful sound. Best friends with Birdmonster, Birdmonster got me into their music. i had a hard time on choosing which song from them, as I think they all are about as good. and youre right - just a tad bit too long, but the guitars are beautiful. 12. Race To The City - The Cinematics this is one of the catchiest songs but I never heard any editors in it. Interesting call. I love how the drums are so prominent in it. 13. Ankle Injuries - Fujiya & Miyagi I love the low-vocals in this and them saying their name in it over and over. And its hard _Not_ to dance when you hear them. My friends and I are obsessed with them. 14. New Hampshire - Wild Light they got huge opening for Arcade Fire on their European tour. I just love the lyrics and all the boys harmonizing. The chorus so simple and easy to sing along to. 15. When Anger Shows - Editors What can I say - Im in love with Tom. I think this is one of the most beautiful songs he's ever written. "in that moment you realize that something you thought would always be there will die, like everything else - these thoughts I must not think of, dreams I cant make sense of, i need you to tell me its ok" -- lyrics have never been more beautiful. and then it gets to the bass line and wham! im done for! LOL 16. Unfinished Business - White Lies Yeah to go from Editors to White Lies was a deliberate choice. They always reminded me of editors/interpol. I think the darkness of the song. But the lyrics are beautiful. Even tho its terribly sad and the video makes me want to cry. But once that guitar kicks in and youre into the chorus I find it impossible to not listen to. 'but theres a light in the distance, waiting for me, i will wait for you, so get off your low, lets kiss like we used to' - i can picture Tom singing this same song. Im curious about the lead singer too - ill tell you in early august, if ive not jumped him by then. seeing them 3 times in 3 days. 17. Music in a Foreign Language - Lloyd Cole i love his voice and fell in love with this song the lyrics are just beautiful. i think its one of the most beautiful songs he's ever done - i really recommend checking out his stuff. or lloyd cole & the commotions. I cry almost everytime I hear this song. 18. Come On - Air Traffic I chose this song deliberately and knew right away this would be the last song. Great vocals and I love the piano - reminds me of Keane. Theres such emotion in his voice. Glad you enjoyed the mix! It was fun making it - and hopefully I got to introduce you to some new bands you might not have ever listened to. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PI69ZFYP and if anyone is interested - this was my best of 2007 mixtape that my friends and I compiled at the end of 2007 http://www.megaupload.com/?d=C3NTT7OV
  20. Wow! I love your review. This is my mix-tape and sadly I read your review and wondered what some of the songs were LOL. Im going to check it out again - as I wrote it down but then had to change some. How embarrassing. I will add - it was Editors - When Anger Shows and yes indeed Travis - one of my favorite bands. And Im actually from the States (NYC at the moment). I never checked your last.fm but I chose music I thought people should know. So when I get this together Ill put up the complete posting. Listening to it now :) tu ingles es muy perfecto. mi espanol es no muy bueno, pero estudiaba espanol para muchos anos.
  21. ok so now id like to add some additional thoughts - like i said id be way embarrassed when i saw the track listing and indeed some of this is mortifying that i didnt know who it was. first off - i remember the orb being big in the 90's. i listened to them in college. if i can find my 'little puffy clouds' on CD - ill send it to you. Secondly, Jonny Greenwood of radiohead fame - did the music for PT Andersen's "There Will Be Blood" - his orchestra that he wrote is just beautiful. If youre curious about it - shoot me a message and Ill send it to you. Its so worth hearing. now onto the mixtape... The Books - never heard of - as far as I know Lali Puna - recognize the name The Streets - i did recognize that lovely cockney accent :) The National - oh how i didnt recognize Matt's voice is a travesty. Ive seen them live quite a few times - but for whatever reason it didnt register. im telling you - my best friend would kill me. Zach Condon's voice - I knew it sounded familiar :) Andrew Bird - I love Heretics. never listened to much of his other stuff, but Im thinking I really should! Frightened Rabbit - Ill have to check out more of their stuff. Ólafur Arnalds - Himininn er að hrynja, en stjörnurnar fara þér vel -- oohh icelandic bands - ive listened to mum a bit whom i love and need to listen to sigur ros stuff, but ill check him/her out :) Get Well Soon - I dont know how I knew who they were - but some stuff Ill randomly hear. My friends (DJs) spin a lot of really new stuff, so Id not be surprised if he was spinning this lately. Wolf Parade - well maybe ill give them another listen. :) Final Fantasy - Arent they Canadian? Im quite sure ive seen them before - or just seen the name a lot. i didnt think i liked them too much, but ill give them another listen. Sunset Rubdown - they just played a show here in NYC from what I remember. if its the same band - a friend saw it and said they were great. ill definitely listen to more of their stuff. Thanks for a great mix! I enjoyed listening to it. Cant wait to see the review of my mix! Now Im really curious of other reviews.
  22. thanks! im really getting antsy to hear what the songs are. I noticed you have a few Wolf Parade songs in your sig. and thought maybe it was your mixtape.
  23. Neon Neon being nominated is pretty cool. Gruff's new band (from what Ive heard) sounds great, and Im a huge fan of Super Furry Animals. Id love to see them win the Mercury, and then hopefully they'll tour and I can see them in NYC.
  24. thanks! im really anxious to get the track listing and have myself a big laugh. Its kinda embarrassing when you realize you dont know some stuff you should probably know - but hell - thats also the fun in this :)
