10-Aug-08: Tokyo - Tickets, Preview, Meetups, Review/Photos
I found this pic on Dorian (of the Teenagers) flickr account from the Summersonic festival. Was hoping he might have some Coldplay pics as he does have a bunch of Luke from The Kooks. This is cool nonetheless.

Help from Boston, DC, Philly peeps
If youre staying in DC for a bit before the shows, DC has some other great music venues that are all metro accessible (granted some of the areas are a bit sketch). and the shows are pretty inexpensive compared to other cities. Matchbox is a great restaurant right near MCI center. E Street is a great theater on (well obviously e street) - one of the landmark indie theaters. theres lots to do there. DC in general isnt known for having the best audiences (dont shoot me for those still down there - i went to a ton of shows there when i lived there) but im sure that wont prevent you from having your own good time.

Maximo Park
Ohhh I cant wait to see Paul & The Park again and hopefully soon! they have to be some of the nicest guys Ive ever met, and Paul's knowledge on architecture and literature was quite impressive. This is just great news to read!

The Faint
Im surprised that there hasnt been a thread started about The Faint already. Probably one of the best bands out of Omaha, Nebraska (granted Im not sure I know of others from there). You can hear some of their songs on their website and a video of "The Geeks Are Right" (one of the most catchiest songs!). And also be sure to listen to "Worked Up So Sexual" - which is just hot and sexy! and will guarantee to have you dancing! http://www.thefaint.com They put on one hell of a show. They just finished up their tour and I believe are headed to the UK. They are so worth seeing. A friend describes them as dance-punk which is probably a pretty good description of them. Their album danse macabre was brilliant and what ive heard of their new album fasciinatiion is awesome. This is a friend's recap of the show at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC. Im so bummed I missed them there. I've seen The Faint 4 times now, and I think this was one of their strongest shows. Terrific big sound and energy. Great light show. I had a great time. Once again, I was glad I was in the balcony because crowds at The Faint get pretty rowdy. The 2nd opener Jaguar Love was terrible though. The singer's energy, shrieking and over the top gestures were completely inappropriate for the music of the band. I was glad I had earplugs and could tune them out. And my review from their show last night at Terminal 5 in NYC. Saw The Faint last night and taking cues from others that had seen them ventured to the upstairs of Terminal 5. This was the last night of their tour and they were really excited. They commented the last time they were in NYC they played Webster Hall at the MotherF***er Party. They also made note that it was the biggest venue they had ever played and were glad to see it was filled to the rim. The crowd was pretty insane with mosh pits breaking out throughout the show, plenty of people tossed out for crowd surfing. The light show was pretty amazing, and they were just phenomenal live. Everyone was dancing on stage non-stop and even on the third floor it was plenty energetic. Finishing off with The Geeks Were Right and then Paranoiattack was just awesome. Right before the encore they played Worked Up So Sexual and the place just went crazy. I must say the crowd was awesome, but I was just glad I was able to enjoy the show from above. And Im beginning really like the songs off of Fasciinatiion. While I detest Terminal 5 for so many reasons, at least they got their soundsystem in working order and bands there sounded great. Right about now Im regretting not wearing earplugs, my ears are still ringing The openers were New York's own: Antipop Consortium and Shy Child. I preferred Shy Child and have seen them a handful of times but Antipop Consortium were good as well. APC's set at 45 min seemed a bit long when Shy Child who was touring with them only played for 20. And some pics that I just loved from their various shows that I found on their myspace page. and a shot with the crowd.

Why no NY concerts? [2009]
Christa - btw - Matt Pinfield LOVES Coldplay and he's dj'ing on WRXP. He had an interview with them a few months back. Theyre promoting a lot of shows in NYC and doing some awesome stuff. They had a free VIP show with Supergrass where you got to meet the band, had a pre-show with them and 50 other people. It was way awesome. It was so successful theyre planning more. And before supergrass came on - matt was playing tons of coldplay until gaz supposedly told him to turn it off. apparently gaz is not a fan of coldplay which nearly made me cry. oh the station's latest - a day spent with the kooks touring around NYC on one of those sight-seeing buses. hehehehe. im in love with that station. and more importantly - i <3 Matt!

Why no NY concerts? [2009]
im still waiting for NYC dates to get added. I just think its unreal that theyve put it aside for Giants stadium (or whatever its called). Until its _easily_ accessible via NJT (and yes theres a bus - and more importantly theyre working on making it way easy to get there), but seriously NJ is NOT NYC. New Yorkers want the best and MSG has great acoustics (interpol in the pit sounded f'ing amazing) - and Ive seen amazing shows at MSG this year - so lets add Coldplay to the list. Granted - Id like it to be a repeat of the Cure. a 3 hour set of which nearly 40 mins was a greatest hits encore to which I nearly had a heart attack. One can hope ;) Im also hoping they play a month-long residency at The Bowery Ballroom. (yes ive been daydreaming a lot today).

03-Aug-08: Washington - Tickets, Preview, Meetups, Review/Photos [originally 02-Jul]
the reviews are incredible. my friend and i were supposed to see them in July, but as it got cancelled that didnt happen. she ended up giving her tix to a friend who told us a week later - it was an incredible show. We were both in chicago and nearly cried when we realized coldplay would be on the stage. i think at that point i was dancing my ass off to mark ronson which made it a bit better. now being near broke - we're trying to find a way for halloween to happen. maybe some money god will find me and send me some. LOL Love the pics and vids! cant wait for NJ.

Coldplay heard in the Olympics
I know I heard Clocks during some portion of the olympics. Im pretty sure they used it during some women's competition thing (maybe gymnastics, but not so sure). i was also way excited when they were playing the dandy warhols. NBC is using lots of great music this year. and DC was going insane when Phelps won his first gold. A bunch of people were from Maryland too (his hometown) so everyone was really excited. And seeing Ian Thorpe as Phelps became the winningest olympic athlete in history --- priceless!

Editors vs Interpol
i love the bass lines mixed in with the drumming. it just always stood out for me and ive always liked the lyrics. i dont think its by far their most genius song - but i did think it was a stand-out on that album and i love the guitars on this track. and i just love paul's voice. boring!?! yeah if you dont like interpol, maybe.
-
Editors vs Interpol
interpol's latest album (our love to admire)- which has heinrich maneuver which is f'ing genius, but lest not forget 'no i in threesome', or mammoth, or rest my chemistry - is damn good. its hard to say otherwise. their second album is even better IMO - antics - which has evil, narc and lets not forget 'slow hands'. oh man - and not even jail. damn that album is amazing! im assuming if youre going by when the artists released their albums youre comparing interpols 3rd album to editors 2nd album - an end has a start and damn - each can hold their own against one another. id probably go with a tie. i prefer antics to our love to admire but damn good stuff! and editors - hell you can never go wrong with tom's vocals.

Blackbud
oh great news. i thought they had broken up - but i seem to confuse them with black wire (who im pretty sure did break up). i think it doesnt help that i saw them so close to each other live - but i remember really liking blackbud. so cant wait to hear their new stuff.
-
I'm From Barcelona
oohh great. cant wait to hear their new one. theyre such a fun band. when i last saw them it was just a total party - with sooooooooo much confetti everywhere. i still find it in my bag that i took to the show. their music just makes me smile - its so happy and sunshine-y and reminds me of a great sunny day in california.
-
Editors vs Interpol
Interpol -- i think each of their albums thus far have been amazing and i like their direction. and for someone who commented on their live shows - they are COMPLETELY different. paul is not known for being nearly as outgoing as tom ever could be. he barely mutters a word on some nights - but their music speaks for itself. after seeing them in the pouring rain outside on a dark, gloomy night - im not sure much can beat the whole atmosphere/experience. i love editors and think Tom is brilliant. do they have lasting power? only time will tell.

Tokyo Police Club (please listen!!)
TPC will get huge! theyre opening for Weezer this tour as they cancelled all their other shows. Im not a huge Weezer fan, but this will be one hell of a show. Now Im reconsidering seeing this tour. Ive seen them more times than should be allowed. And their parents and families are ridiculously nice. I met a bunch of them on the last night of their Bloc Party tour in NYC and it was quite cool.

Stereophonics
I still havent heard Pull The Pin which I figure I better get to, as Im seeing them live soon. I love JEEP, YGGTTCB is probably my least favorite and LSVO grew on me over time. Their earlier stuff is great tho. Kelly has such an amazing voice live. Sadly, this will be the first time im not seeing them with my ex. Him and I used to see them all the time together and always bonded us. Will be bittersweet, me thinks seeing it without him. (and for those wondering - im in nyc, and hes in dc so its not possible or id gladly see them with him again).

White Lies
Album is coming out soon. I cant remember if its August or October (maybe Sept), but definitely sometime soon. I got a single when I saw them, dont even know if its official that has 2 songs. They just released their second single - it says which song it is on their myspace page.

Is Keane trying to copy Coldplay??
Hey dont you mean Issa? ;) Actually she might have still been Jane Siberry when she did that. I saw her perform a couple years back -and she had to borrow instruments from a bunch of locals. Man I love her! Which reminds me - another show to add to my bloated list of concerts that Ive been to!

White Lies
White Lies is my new favorite band. Since seeing them at The Empty Bottle in Chicago, and then again at Lollapalooza and then a third time at The Mercury Lounge - they might just be one of the best newer bands out there. Their first single "Unfinished Business" is so worth a listen. (on their myspace page) And to make it all better - the band are the nicest guys Ive ever met. Harry (the lead singer) who seems quiet is quite talkative offstage. He remembered me from all the shows and meeting me at Lollapalooza and talked of upcoming gigs and finally going home to London, and probably now thinks im a stalker! West London trio White Lies hasn't been around for long, and its members - Harry McVeigh (vocals/guitar), Charles Cave (bass) and Jack Brown (drums) - are all still just shy of 21, but they've already got considerable stage experience under their belts; prior to launching White Lies the boys got off to a promising start under the name Fear of Flying. The name change came just in time, because they're now cleared for take off with enough U.K. buzz behind them to launch them into the stratosphere. Fortunately, they've got exactly the kind of epic, cinematic sound - likened to such models as U2, Echo & the Bunnymen, Joy Division and pre-Fisherman's Blues Waterboys - that can keep them airborne. Heres a list of upcoming show dates: Aug 8 2008 8:00P Haldern Festival Haldern Aug 9 2008 8:00P Field Day Festival Hackney, London Aug 14 2008 8:00P Pukkelpop Festival Hasselt Aug 15 2008 8:00P Frequency Festival Salzburgring, Salzburg Aug 16 2008 8:00P Lowlands Festival Holland Aug 23 2008 8:00P Reading Festival Reading Aug 24 2008 8:00P Leeds Festival Leeds Sep 21 2008 8:00P Club Ifor Bach Cardiff, Wales Sep 22 2008 8:00P Night & Day Manchester Sep 24 2008 8:00P Little Civic Wolverhampton Sep 25 2008 8:00P Bodega Nottingham Sep 26 2008 8:00P Leadmill Sheffield Sep 28 2008 8:00P Thekla Bristol Sep 29 2008 8:00P Komedia Brighton Oct 1 2008 8:00P Arts Centre Norwich, East Oct 2 2008 8:00P The Cluny Newcastle Upon Tyne Oct 3 2008 8:00P King Tuts Wah Wah Hut Glasgow Oct 4 2008 8:00P Faversham Leeds Oct 6 2008 8:00P Carling Academy Oxford Oct 7 2008 8:00P ICA - SOLD OUT London

Air Traffic
I just love Air Traffic. Cant wait to see them again. And I just loved this pic of them. its great they're not huge yet, because it means I can still go to tiny clubs like the Knitting Factory and see them (from this year at some point - a few months ago I believe). and a whole lot more pics at

Radiohead Live??
If you'd like to get an idea of Radiohead live - the vocals are just amazing - check out this review and video http://stereogum.com/archives/concert/lollapalooza-radiohead_011871.html I hadnt seen them in years (which is an understatement as it was when pablo honey was released) and i was just blown away by how great it was. thom's vocals were top notch. the best of any artist out there. the reality is - radiohead is in a different league when it comes to live shows. theyre in a league of their own. If anyone can create the magic (and i dont mean an arena singing along in unison to a song) id be surprised. maybe U2 has an atmosphere like that, but a friend of mine (who loves and sees everyone) has said the same thing about radiohead. oh and ill post this somewhere else. but while coldplay wasnt at lollapalooza - god put a smile... was played courtesy of mark ronson (sans vocals). oh man that was insane but radiohead was the show to see.

German music....
Saw Booka Shade on Saturday and it was an experience. The crowd was going spastic during the set and it was one huge dance party. I met some of the Toadies crew and they loved it (everyone was watching it to see the people which was pretty funny).

Post live performances of songs you find beautiful
One of the best live performances Ive ever seen in my life - and I nearly had an emotional breakdown watching it. It was just breathtakingly beautiful. Everything In Its Right Place/Fake Plastic Trees from Radiohead at Lollapalooza. The fireworks which seemed perfectly synched up with the performance (total coincidence) is mind boggling. (if this has been posted already i apologize - im jet lagged and havent read any other threads yet) Sorry to Chris - but Thom is a f'ing god! It will never get better than this. Videos from the performance (and review) here http://stereogum.com/archives/concert/lollapalooza-radiohead_011871.html

Post live performances of songs you find beautiful
This is one of my favorite songs ever.... from Gene "London, Can You Wait". I still cry almost everytime I hear their music as it was the first and only time I was serenaded at a show nearly the entire set and Martin never let go of my hand. I just curse myself for not taking it further. Hes one of the most beautiful and nicest guys Ive ever met.

Supergrass
yeah was a bit obvious for the mixtape ;) LOL. Im hopelessly in love with White Lies *HOPELESSLY*

Supergrass
I got the best news today that Ive got in a long time. As I never win anything, I figured why not try to win free tix to a private show with Supergrass. And I got a phone call about an hour ago from the woman at the radio station saying I won tix to see Supergrass for me and a guest. There will be 50 of us in total and we'll be seeing a private set with Gaz, Rob, Danny and Mick. Woohoo!!!! I cant wait, especially because a few hours later Ill be seeing them perform again at the same venue. Oh how I love 101.9 RXP and they even played Coldplay this morning. There is a God and Matt Pinfield is his name! If Gaz signs my "Sun Hits the Sky" single I will be most happy!
