  1. Uh..."Survival" sucks a bit less. It's a lot heavier live and isn't as terrible of a closer as you might think, especially with the CO2 jets (apparently they used pyro for a few shows). Other than that, no. A lot of people say "Follow Me" is better live but it really bored me, plus Matt struggles to sing it.
  2. It's like how last tour, they dropped "MK Ultra" before the tour got anywhere near me. And yes, I agree, "Animals" is still one of the 2 best songs on the album. The first half of it is quiet and makes the crowd chatty and go to the bathroom, but so do "Explorers" and "Undisclosed Desires" and those heaps of garbage still haven't gone anywhere. "Liquid State" seems to have completely replaced "Save Me", though, and that's much more understandable. Plus Chris clearly enjoys singing LS so much more. (he sounds like a dying cat on "Save Me", anyway)
  3. Tom has historically been an ass (Serge too, he might be worse), but he's right. AROBTTH is mine and many other's favorite COLDPLAY album, but favorite album from anyone ever? No way.
  4. Yeah, by The National's standards, this is merely decent as a single, but the live videos we've seen of other tracks look more promising.
  5. Probably not, the orchestra and choir seems to be reserved for these film soundtrack songs. These one-offs are fine, but I'd hate for an orchestra or Calvin Harris or whoever to muck up THE MACHINE on an actual FATM album.
  6. This is disputable. Singing "Yellow" usually works just as well.
  7. It finally happened. I finally hate "Panic Station". In fact, I somehow hate The 2nd Law even more than I did 6 months ago, with the exception of 2 or 3 good songs (still a better batting average than Mylo Xyloto, of course). I also apparently caught them at a good time of the tour, because they've since reverted to the old habits of playing short 90-minute shows with the worst song choices. (and they're playing "Eurasia" again! Didn't you guys miss that song? Of course you didn't. They've also dropped "Animals" and "Plug In Baby" completely.) I was planning on seeing them in Vegas last month but ended up canceling my trip, and in retrospect, money wisely saved. Mini rant over, just had to get that off my chest.
  8. Sounds better than Breath of Life to me so far. I liked BoL, but it felt way too much like a film score instead of a F+tM song. And it was so overproduced that it sounded really flat when performed live.

"Is This It" is generally regarded as their best, though I like "Room on Fire" just as much. Basically, listen to the first two albums and the first half of the 3rd album, then act like everything after that doesn't exist.

Better than Angles. Still worse than everything else. Moving on...
  11. ^ Yeah I'm not even gonna try to match that. I've got 12 music posters and a couple other non-music posters hanging up in my room, so the walls are pretty much filled. I've rotated them out frequently over the years.
  12. Got a GA ticket for Santa Barbara. I was actually trying to get lower level seating but Ticketmaster kept giving me seats off to the very side or at the very top, but I tried on my phone's Live Nation app 10 minutes later and it surprisingly threw GA my way, so I took it. The GA is pretty small there and probably holds like 1,000 people, so I'm excited as hell for this.
  13. I posted that in 2011, so yes, I've been in my cave for a damn long time now. :laugh3:
  14. The National Announce New LP Trouble Will Find Me http://pitchfork.com/news/50044-the-national-announce-sixth-album-trouble-will-find-me/ Hold me, guys.
  15. Kinda boring. I'm honestly happier about the fact that they're still alive and are actually putting out a new album after mumbling under their breath about it for several years.

Also, they're playing my city on my birthday. Happy fucking birthday to me.
  17. Looks like I won't be seeing Bat for Lashes after all, but The National (i.e. the best live band) announced a local date at my favorite venue in the world so I'm obviously not missing that. Though oddly enough, tickets don't go on sale for another month. They toured VERY extensively in 2011 and 2012, so their 2013 tour dates are pretty scattered. But the Hollywood Bowl date in September seems to indicate they'll probably add a few more US shows this year before the tour finally wraps up for good. Phenomenal live band so don't pass it up if they come near you. They're just starting to tour next month so expect them to show up pretty much everywhere later this year. Their previous tour was relentless.
  18. Saw Dave Grohl's Sound City Players earlier this week. Upcoming: - Coachella (weekend 1) - New Order w/ Johnny Marr - Austra - POSSIBLY Bat for Lashes - M83 w/ Phantogram
  19. When I think of club, I think of 200 people, not 1,000. Anyway, most "secret" gigs don't involve buying tickets. Some of them you have to win your way into with a contest, some involve a band tweeting about a show that happens in 2 hours in a certain location and it's first come get in, and a lot of them are just private events. So keep your eyes peeled to social media, follow bands' tweets and FB posts about last-minute surprises, etc.

If this was real, it would sound a lot better than Mylo Xyloto.
  21. Agreed, "Default" was a poor indicator for the rest of the album. "Judge, Jury and Executioner" stands up a lot better against the others and remains one of my favorites, though.
  22. I didn't see Coldplay on the MX tour, so I can't judge recent history in terms of stage and performance. But from past tours, I can still judge Chris Martin's voice, which is nasaly as hell live. I don't care who won the award (well, as long as it wasn't Mumford), but in spite of The 2nd Law sucking, Muse's tour this time around is an improvement on the Resistance tour, which was style over substance.
  23. Corkus replied to a post in a topic in Coldplay
Both. And to this day, "Us Against the World" is the only song I can listen to the whole way through without wanting to strangle a cat, punch it, tie it to a toaster, and throw it out the window as hard as I can.
  24. Corkus replied to a post in a topic in Coldplay
In this thread: "Waaaaaaahhh! Someone dislikes a bad album! Waaaaaaahhh!" I don't think I've listened to the album in 15 months, honestly.
  25. "Before Your Very Eyes" is fantastic. The rest of the album is pretty good, but nothing else quite lives up to the first track.
