  1. Where did I say dislike equals disrespect? You are inferring something that was never said by me. In fact, I think I said "whether you like them or not", which is to imply that preference is immaterial to the point I'm making. I was speaking to a popular trend, which was again displayed in this thread, to clown U2 in a dismissive manner. To suggest anything beyond that is you putting words in my mouth.
  2. I think it's amazing the amount of disrespect U2 receives. Whether you like them or not, their influence on ALL musicians is pretty much unmatched over the last 25 years. There would be no king of limbs or suburbs discussion without the contributions of U2. I know Bono sets himself up as an easy target, but I still can't believe how quick people are to slam such an influential band, especially on Coldplay board.
  3. Very close. They have a big sound that will play well at festivals and large venues. When I think in terms of "biggest band in the world", I am reminded of those bands that are capable to draw mass and diverse audiences.
  4. I agree. When I was in college, I used to always have something playing in the background. Now, I work a 9 hour day, and most of my music consumption is on my commute or at the gym, so I want to decide whether or not I like an album quickly. I don't get a lot of chances to listen, and I don't want to waste my time with crap.
  5. Pepsi The Suburbs 10 tracks or less: I've always believed that the best length for an album is 8 to 10 songs. It allows the listener to easily connect the first song to the last. For me, if it's any longer, the album starts to lose its cohesiveness. But I've already mentioned that I have a short attention span, so it may just be me. I just happen to like the Suburbs, but it is way too long in my opinion, and there is certainly some fat that could have been taken out. I also like that short CDs have a certain punch to them - I can make up my mind quickly whether or not I like the album.
  6. I'm not a huge fan, but I respect Phil Collins a lot. He is very talented on a number of levels.
  7. I don't know what you guys are talking about. Wake Up is an epic anthem. I approve
  8. ^ SiriusXM is satellite radio. I don't know if it's an American thing. But they have one channel that plays nothing but Pearl Jam. How cool is that?
  9. ^ I keep waiting for them to release a remastered version of TQID. Some of the songs are re-mastered on Sounds of The Smiths, and they sound great. They should do the same thing but for the entire album.
  10. Does anyone listen to Pearl Jam Radio on SiriusXM? I just finished a couple of road trips, and I had it on the entire way. Because Pearl Jam have so many live performances, B-sides, covers, and side projects, it makes for hours of listening without hearing the same thing twice. I approve.
  11. I haven't listened to it yet, so I have no comment on the album. However, I've been advocating CDs with 8 to 10 tracks for sometime. The catch is that bands need to put them out more often. I would prefer 8-10 track albums every couple years compared to these CDs that have 12-15 tracks but only come out every 4 years.
  12. That's the one!
  13. There is a full length concert on YouTube.
  14. By the way, congrats on your tickets. You'll have a blast!
  15. I've got a lot of vacation time saved up, and i'd love to take a trip and see arcade fire. I think they are playing 3 nights in Chicago. I don't know if it's going to happen, but it sure would be nice. They are one of my new favorite bands to see live.
  16. ^ yeah, that's what I was thinking. I mean, a typical CD contains WAV files, so I don't see any difference. I'll try it.
  17. Quick question for you techie junkies: if I order the WAV file and burn it to CD, shouldn't I be able to pop it back into my computer and import it to iTunes as an mp4? I wonder if iTunes will recognize the disk. Only reason I ask is because all my iTunes are mp4s, and I'm a freak when it comes to uniformity and organization.
  18. I agree, it's an interesting idea. I don't think Radiohead really care that much. They almost never march to the music industry's beat, and they are not signed to a label that's going to push them to compete regardless of their own will. So, no, I don't think Radiohead care what the other two bands are doing. Of course, I don't know anything for certain; it's just a hunch. U2 and Coldplay have super devout fans, but I get what your saying. The hardcore fans (like myself) are going to by the album no matter what, and I think there are a lot of people like me in that regard. However, u2 and coldplay are much more likely to pick up the casual fan if the album starts to achieve some level of mainstream success. Also, u2 and coldplay are infinitely more likely to have an album that does, in fact, achieve mainstream success.
  19. ^ I know what you're saying, but I just disagree. All it took was Nirvana's "Nevermind" to make all hose people listening to glam or hair metal feel ridiculous. I hope ArcadeFire cam have a similar impact.
  20. I don't really hate anyone. The bands that are obviously silly are not even on my radar. I would only "hate" a band if they were receiving critical acclaim and I didn't think they were that good. I can't really think of anyone. I don't understand how people hate the likes of Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, or the Joans Brothers. They are almost complete non-entities to me. I couldn't give a damn what they do.
  21. I like Muse, but I didn't really like their Grammy performance. They sort of seemed out of place.
  22. No shame in that. Been there, done that.
  23. I know Arcade Fire stayed clear of all the Grammy parties. They had dinner at a quiet restaurant the night before the Grammies and were back at their hotel by 10:30. I know that for a fact. So, yes, they weren't exactly soaking up the Grammy experience. I still think people who would otherwise not listen to Arcade Fire will give them a chance because of their Album of the Year win. It doesn't matter how late people come to the party, just so long as they eventually show up. I may be wrong, but it's what I hope happens.
  24. I thought Arcade Fire's performance was only OK. I am more excited about the album of the year win. It's like good music is finally recognized. I hope people feel stupid for listening to silly pop artists when a band as good as Arcade Fire is out there. That's the way it used to be - the kids were never fooled. Now I feel like the youth has bought into a bunch of crap. I think Arcade Fire is good enough to cross barriers. I hope they open doors for other good bands.
