Get-well wishes pouring in for E Street Band saxophonist Clarence Clemons
I am a huge Springsteen fan, so obviously this one is sad for me. RIP Big Man.

u2 360 DVD was only ok IMO.

The Pink Floyd Thread
I hope there is a 2nd leg to this tour. I would like to see it again. There was too much to take in at the first show...sensory overload.

I like the Pop Mart DVD, but it's not my favorite. I'm so drawn to the Elevation and Vertigo DVDs. The Elevation DVD might be my all time favorite music DVD.

The Beatles
^ I'm going to try my best to go. I've had so many opportunities, but I've always skipped out because tickets were expensive, or I was busy on a particular night. I can't make any more excuses....only so many more chances to see him live.

The Beatles
I am going to try my very best to see him on this tour. He's the number 1 artist on my list to see live.

Bands that are great and all but you totally can't understand
Aren't the lyrics to most alternative bands fairly cryptic? I actually prefer more overt lyrics and storytelling, but I rarely get it with the music I listen to.

The Rick Rubin stuff is old and was scrapped. That was my understanding.

U2
Here you go: U2 have delayed plans to release a new album in 2011, and tell Rolling Stone their next studio album probably won't be released until 2012. The band has been working regularly on new material during their extensive U2 360 tour but Adam Clayton says, "We had to have a meeting and look at the schedule to see if we could pick up any extra time to work on it and we just realized that we couldn't. To be honest, everyone was a bit gutted. But it was the only sensible decision." U2 will return to the studio later this year and revisit material recorded with producer Danger Mouse, while scrapping their work with Lady Gaga's producer RedOne. Manager Paul McGuinness also revealed that U2 plan to "recycle" the pieces of their giant "claw" stage as permanent event spaces.

This is a mixed bag. Anyone with common sense tries to do business in a way that keeps them from paying more taxes than is necessary. Anyone who says otherwise is not being realistic. However, with that said, Bono is not just "anyone". Is it a double standard - yes. Is it fair - I don't know.

Rate the new Coldplay song in 24 hours
I do find the lyrics a bit cringe-worthy at times. It's like they are trying to paint a clear picture a la Springsteen, but the narrative is either too overt or doesn't make sense to me. It's like there is no cohesiveness. I start to form a visual image, and then I don't know what they are talking about. I say if your lyrics aren't going to add up, go all out like Michael Stipe or Anthony Kiedis.

Rate the new Coldplay song in 24 hours
After a few listens, I like it. I vote "Yay".

New Coldplay eh?
Mostly, I like Every Tear is a Waterfall. I think it's a fun song that will play well live. For me, some of the lyrics are lacking in certain spots, but that's a minor complaint.

Loving Your Local Music Scene
I don't listen to local bands, but I totally understand why people get into them. You need to love it simply for the music, not because you'll be able to talk about the band at work or see them on TV. I have been to a few local shows, and it seems like people enjoy forming small communities around the band. I always thought that was kind of cool. It's like, even if no one else in the world knows about them, everyone in this room is a big fan. I think it's a binding experience. Just my 2 cents...

Is this everything? (or Help! I need something new.)
I agree I think people do tend to glorify past music as being more groundbreaking and revolutionary, but I've always believed that was largely due to the fact that there was more of an opportunity for it to be that way. All the bands we love from the past were dealing with far more of a blank slate. Now, so many things have been done, an it's more difficult to find new areas to explore.

Is this everything? (or Help! I need something new.)
I hate to say it, but I think you might be right - I don't think there are many different or new ways to twist popular music. I've heard people like Ozzy Osbourne and Billy Corgan make similar statements. World music probably is your best bet. Maybe others have suggestions for you, but the music I listen to (and like), is basically just similar to what has been done in the past. I mean, there are differences, but it's nothing revolutionary.

Live Albums
I especially like live albums by bands that use the studio album as nothing but a template for when they play live. A few artists that come to mind quickly would be Pearl Jam and Dave Matthews Band. Yes, they play mostly songs that appear on their studio albums, but they take on a different level when played live. And I'm not just talking about the jam sequences, although that's part of it (especially for the two artists I listed). I also like buying multiple live CDs from bands that switch their setlists often. When that's the case, each show takes on a new dynamic. Obviously, as mentioned earlier in the thread, I have a preference for bands that record entire shows as opposed to cherry pick select performances from an entire tour.

Live Albums
^ That's interesting because I don't like it when a live album sounds just like the studio album. Different tastes, I guess.
