  1. heh...10/10 Muse
  2. Hmm...We've never made it down to your neck of the woods before. Maybe you had a band director or college friend who worked a band camp up in my state? Or...maybe someone from my state attended college down there and mentioned us? Eh, we may never know! Okay, after hearing all of Muses's studio albums....I think my favorite is.....ABSOLUTION!! My opinions of Showbiz and OoS go against the grain. They are my least favorite albums. :embarrassed: But...I prefer Showbiz or OoS over Radiohead's Pablo Honey. I own just about everything of theirs except Pablo Honey. I only like "Creep" from that album.
  3. ^ I thought this cover was much better than Robyn's, but I still agree that Coldplay's is so far the best version.
  4. Muse - "Undisclosed Desires"
  5. Am I crazy to think that "The Resistance" album has kind of a Depeche Mode sound? I'm listening to "Undisclosed Desires" and it's reminding me so much of Depeche Mode...not a specific song, but the "feel." I really like it. But, I like Depeche Mode.
  6. I hope Bliss stays blissful! We got a beta for our daughter a few years ago and it went belly up in less than a week. :( When she got home from pre-K she asked where "Mr. Beta" went and we told her that he was visiting his family out at the ocean. :(
  7. Eh....6/10 Not a fan really. Maroon 5
  8. Muse - "Sunburn"
  9. Yes. Mumford & Sons?
  10. @Violet...we clearly have so much to talk about! :) All I can say about the double reeds is good luck with that bassoon fingering chart. I have tiny hands so it was difficult for me to play it. Oboe was easy for me because I played for about 2 months in 7th grade before I decided to go back to flute (I started on flute, went to oboe, back to flute, and then to horn in the 9th grade....and only because the quarterback of the JV football team played horn, too. I caught onto it easily, but I intentionally shanked my chair tests so that I could sit next to him that year. Ah the things we do for a crush). Oboe fingerings are very similar to flute, so if you know the flute fingerings, oboe won't be a problem. I do play tenor horn! It's a nickel Besson and it plays beautifully! I play 1st tenor horn in the Ozark Mountain British Brass Band. Used to play 2nd, but I was bumped up to 1st when the lady playing 1st retired. I actually prefer to play 2nd, though. Freelancing is so much fun. I can't even begin to tell you! When I went to college I only majored in education because I was afraid I wasn't good enough to be a performance major. I did everything a performance major does in terms of recitals and chamber work, but I didn't take the extra classes. I was fortunate to marry a wonderful guy who makes enough money to support us. We have two children, a 6 year old girl and 3 year old boy, and I stay home and take care of them and in my spare time I play in the brass band, with the Arkansas Philharmonic as 3rd horn, utility horn for the Fort Smith Symphony, and I play and sing in a brass quintet + percussion called Naturally Brass. We play mostly rock, funk, dixieland, jazz, swing, and blues. We do the band camp circuit in the summer, weddings, and dance hall gigs during the winter and play conventions. I got to meet Bruce Jenner last year and got to meet and play for LL Cool J!! And of course......the shows! I'm doing "The Sound of Music" right now, but I just got finished doing "Phantom of the Opera" a few months ago. Playing in the pit for the shows is probably one of my favorite things to do! Wow, okay, I feel REALLY terrible that I hijacked this poor Muse thread again! I'm currently listening to OoS. And I want to list my top 10 favorite songs, but I don't think I should! I haven't heard Showbiz yet!
  11. Well, that just makes me eager to hear the first two albums then!!!!
  12. Nice mash up! I thought it sounded like that!!
  13. Really? You would rank Resistance last?? Awww. :(
  14. @Megalomania Back in the day when I was a youngster just starting out in band, I remember my band director comparing the sound of beginning clarinets in the high register to "sunrise on a guinea pig farm." haha!
  15. I'll admit, Absolution is a great album! I've only listened to the three recent ones, so I had to rank them, I'd say Resistance is first, followed by Absolution, and then Black Holes... But, I've still got 2 more albums to listen to and digest! @Megalomania.....I can play all scales 2/3 octaves on clarinet. :) But, that's the extent of my clarinet playing. ETA...again....When I listened to Uprising I thought it sounded familiar. Most comments pointing this out in the youtube video I watched suggested it sounded like Marilyn Manson's "Beautiful People." I don't listen to him, though, so no dice. But then it hit me..."Call Me" by Blondie! It kind of sounds like that. I still like it, though.
  16. Just finished Kathryn Stockett's "The Help" and I'd give it a 9/10.
  17. I posted my top 5 faves bands yesterday, but I'm amending it.... Coldplay Radiohead Muse The Black Keys The Beatles
  18. Well, technically I can play all of them. But...only well enough to play scales and produce a nice sound. Music ed requirements and all. But, I'm proficient on horn, trumpet, tenor horn, flute, piano, and voice. ETA: Just listened to "Soldier's Poem." How lovely. I felt a tear form in my eye when I heard the lyric, "there is no justice in the world." Powerful. But, I've come across the first song I don't really care for, "Assassin." There was bound to be a few. After all, even though Coldplay and Radiohead are my two favorite bands, there are still some songs of theirs I skip over all the time. ETA2: Studio Muse are great, but I think I might even like Live Muse a bit better! Matt Bellamy truly has a stunning live voice!
  19. Awww, don't be jealous of my age! haha! I'm going senile and I'm only 32! haha To be young.....er again!
  20. haha! I do. :) Just bought my 2nd horn, in fact. And...I love it. We're in a very serious relationship now. haha! After dropping my H281 in its gig bag and denting the screwbell so it wouldn't screw in a few years ago right before a Mahler V rehearsal, I decided I needed a back up. So, I just purchased a Conn 8D "N" series. It's incredibly open, versatile, slotted evenly, and plays like a dream. We're soulmates, "Conn"ie and I. :laugh3: ETA: Crap, didn't mean to hijack. I'm listening to the album Absolution now. I'm working my way backwards!
  21. Kronos Quartet Kronos Quartet vs. Four Tet
  22. The National The National vs. The Boxer Rebellion
  23. Stockholm Syndrome - Muse
  24. HELL no. The Black Keys?
  25. Five Iron Frenzy?! Wow, it's been awhile since I've heard them! They were big back when I was in high school.
