I think Murray being the home favorite had so much to do with it. It's hard not to feel discouraged in any way when you have an entire country rooting for you. (BTW, I just remembered that he is a fellow countryman of yours. You must be a proud Scotsman today. :D) Someone mentioned Federer's age. (He turns 31 next week.) While that could be a factor, I can't say that's a good excuse, seeing that he won Wimbledon (his seventh one, no less) just a few weeks ago. Even champions have bad days, and this was a bad day for Roger. Even so, he earned a beautiful silver medal for the Swiss, and he's still a highly successful tennis player who has 17 grand slam titles to his name, more than any other male tennis player in the world. As important as the Olympics are, I don't think this will get him down too much. I still love him, anyway. :heart:

That tennis match with Murray and Federer was torturous to watch. Federer was playing horribly. So many unforced errors. :sad: Having said that, Murray did a good job of forcing Federer to move around the court, and he had some killer serves during that match. Anyway, I'm currently catching USA vs. Turkey in women's indoor volleyball. We're ahead two sets to none, and we're ahead in the 3rd set by several points. I'd like to say this will turn out alright. However, our men's indoor volleyball team choked yesterday against Russia, going from a match point away from victory to being crushed in five sets. 'Twas a shame.

I'll go ahead and say none of those are mine. I couldn't decide on an order. Having said that, looking at these, it's not gonna be easy to pick one, either. On a somewhat related note, I had no idea there was a Parisian mix of "Lit Up." :surprised:

As I have been off my computer for the past several days, I'm a bit behind. Excuse me while I make this massive multi-quote post. OH MY SHIT. :dazzled: I really don't know Tool all that well, but I keep meaning to check them out, and a huge reason for that is Maynard James Keenan's voice. Words cannot describe how stupidly excited I am to hear Chris now that I know this. If you thought I was a stan of Chris before...whoa. In fact, I'm nervous about T2L for the sole reason that I might instantaneously combust/implode/get pregnant upon hearing Chris' voice. :bomb: Nope. I love it. Like you said, there's some sexy slap bass in there. Mmmmm, sexy slap bass from a sexy bassist. :dazzled: (Sorry, stanning again.) While I concede that I have to be in a certain mood to listen to Kasabian in the first place, I agree with your consensus on Kasabian albums. Listening to "Velociraptor!" was easier for me to get through than WR. I also agree with your comment about the appeal of Arctic Monkeys, simply because I myself feel that way about the two latter AM albums. I think AM's fast, rhythmic music chock full of guitar is better. I honestly got bored with SIAS when I listened to it last year. It seemed lethargic. Perhaps their later work gets better over time. I wouldn't know, though; I get too stuck on FWN to really listen to much else. (It's so good, though. :dazzled:) Oh, boo. :sad: Hey, Kelly, is that Tom Hiddleston in your avatar? :dazzled: A lot of your examples, though, have only released two or three albums in the first place. Being a better album out of two albums isn't really saying a whole lot. (I'm not trying to detract from your point. It's just something I thought of as I was typing all this out.) Having said that, I'll definitely vouch for "Helplessness Blues." Beautiful. :heart: deadmau5 was popular back in the 2000s, though. Not to mention that he's heaps better than Skrillex. That's nice to hear. I mean to listen to this album when it drops later this month. ETA: I don't think I've ever used so many dazzled smilies in one post before.

Actually, I like "The Resistance" more than I do BHAR. This is coming from a person whose first Muse album was BHAR. Say what you want about that. I also love "Valtari." Also, I believe Muse have released their masterpiece, as do other people. I will stand by "Absolution" until the day I die. That album has done more for me than any other. I could also throw some other albums that are better than their last ones. "Strangeland" by Keane. "Dye It Blonde" by Smith Westerns. "Liebe Ist Für Alle Da" by Rammstein. (OK, maybe that's not fair, given that "Rosenrot" was merely "Reise, Reise" leftovers thrown together, but it still counts.) There are more that I haven't named. It all depends on how you look at it. Even if what you say is true, if you're disillusioned with some of the music you've been listening to ("Their music isn't as good as it used to be" or "They've sold out" or however you may feel that isn't either of these things), there's always new music out there. I've listened to many excellent debut albums this year. Look into those. If those do nothing for you, look into music of the past. There's always something great out there. You just have to look for it. :smiley:

The bolded part is spot on. It's not the conception of experimentation, so much as its execution. Also, I had already forgotten there was some jazz influence, too. That'll be interesting. OH MAN. More temptation. I told myself I was gonna hold off on 2DCC, but now that I know both that AND The Vaccines are out, I don't think I'll make it. It's a little over a month. I had to Google it to figure out who you were even talking about. I've never heard of them. Do you think you could post a link or two of what you think their best songs are? It'd help the rest of the WoM to get more acquainted.

I'm not a fan of dubstep, but Muse have shown me before how well they utilize different genres and immerse them into their music. I'm sure they can do the same with dubstep. :nice: Even if that's not true, I believe they mentioned that T2L is a mix of a lot of different things, so I'm pretty confident that I'll find something I like.

First things first: Keep the title. I think it's quite suitable. As far as the third verse, the idea is there, but I'd reword it a bit. Maybe something more like this: "I'm hoping for a new tomorrow Without any pain or sorrow. Help me. Show me. Give me a sign. Come join me, in this place of mine" I had several ideas running around my head for that bit, but I think you have a better idea of what you could do. To answer your other question, I'd do both the original chorus and the last bit (which is not really a bridge, but an altered chorus). The original chorus needs to be there, and it'd be such a shame not to use the altered chorus, especially given the ambiguous nature it gives the ending.

That's not hard at all. I have yet to encounter much of anything from Muse that has made me lose faith in them. They're not perfect, of course, but they've done enough to keep me listening for over 5 years. That's all the proof I need.

I wouldn't say they're silly. In fact, there are some bits which I rather like. They just need some sprucing up, is all. I'll start with "Wilderness," seeing as I have the clearest idea about what you might can do with it. The chorus is fine. I'd leave that alone. I'd do something slightly different with the verses, though. I'll use the first one as an example. "Covered in snow six feet deep Held down without taking a leap I'm stuck here, all alone. I'm stuck here, on my own." I feel like doing it this way will help the flow of the song. The whole "wilderness" bit throws it off. It also feels redundant. You've called the song "Wilderness," and I feel that by using some of the lyrics you've used, you can show the feeling of being in a wilderness without having to explicitly state it. I feel like the song actually has more power that way. Now, having said that, you can do something similar with the second couplet ("Covered in chains six feet thick/Tied down and feeling sick"). You could even use the same words if you wanted. Then, after the second chorus, insert a short instrumental break, take the dynamics down a notch, and go to the third couplet ("Hoping for a new tomorrow/Without any pain or sorrow"). For the second half of the third verse, I'd use a rhyming couplet that's more hopeful in nature; it changes the vibe, as well as keeps it from being overly repetitive. I'll think more on the other two before telling you what I think. Keep in mind that you don't have to take any of my suggestions if you don't see it fit. I'm just going through my way of thinkiing with what you have provided for me. If it helps, that's just a bonus.

Rumors are that they will. They're only rumors, though. How did you manage that? I mean, I know leaks are common (2DCC's "Beacon" has already leaked, apparently), but I haven't heard anything about a Muse leak. Can you maybe give us a bit more information about what you heard?

Oh no, Theory 4 was back in my sophomore year of college. I graduated in May. At any rate, Theory 4 was nothing compared to my Form and Analysis class, where I had to analyze full works of classical music. For a major grade, I had to count Stravinsky's "Octet for Winds" (or was it "L'Historie du Soldat?") while counting out loud and having both my hands and one foot doing three completely different things. (If I remember correctly, my foot was keeping the beat, my left hand was patting the subdivision, and my right hand was doing the rhythms that I counted.) It was honestly one of the hardest things I've ever done. Anyway, I'll keep what you said in mind. I probably won't share the piece that I wrote for my class (I have several reasons for that), but I may somehow get a spurt of something that might help me write.
