  1. actually, there's a few links between Snow Patrol and Biffy Clyro musically: 1) Snow Patrol (aka Polar Bear) & Biffy Clyro both started out on the same student-run Glasgow record label (Electric Honey), but at different times. 2) Snow Patrol supported Biffy Clyro on tour before a long time ago. i think it was before the Final Straw era as i think SP's early stuff are closer to Biffy's post Puzzles stuff (probably due to the Nirvana influence). 3) Gary's a big fan of Biffy Clyro. & he knows the "Mon the Biffy!" cheer. but tbh, no surprise there since he always roots for the underdog bands that had to struggle like they did. but i'm sure you already knew all that about Gary. ;) that photo/pose somehow seems so very Kurt Cobain-ish to me. :\ *lol* you can tell the year based on Gary's beard! awesome! & i predict that soon you will be able to tell the year based on Simon's! :D the 17th century footballer name is 1 story about the band's name. the other is that one of the band members supposedly had a pen (a biro) that belonged to Cliff Richard that they referred to as "Cliffy Biro"...i leave it to you to figure out where that's leading to & also the link with that t-shirt design. :) EDIT: oops! i just noticed that Anna also posted about the pen story! haha
  2. :laugh3: apparently, he never does...according to no less than Jonny's bro (in his interview with the amazing TTB crew [where else? :D]): & i remember Gary himself saying in an interview he always wears odd socks for personal superstitious ritual reasons...whatever in the world that might be that'd make him wear odd socks ala Punky Brewster. but then, it's quirky things like this that make him so adorkable, imo! :wacky: that comic strip thing made me LOL too! i'm assuming that some effort was put into making sure all the images of Gary used featured him with the same hair style/length for continuity's sake. impressive. most impressive.
  3. saw the news on Twitter earlier...that's great news for you guys!!! good to see that somebody in Malaysia seems to be doing something right for gigs/music variety in 2011... :)
  4. oooh...i love that photo too! i have a (much) smaller version, but this 2000+ pixel resolution one is just all kinds of awesome! :D  & cos it's such a high resolution photo, i can tell that Gary doesn't/didn't tie his shoelaces! + i think that's the pair of adidas shoes that he likes to wear very often cos they're comfy...he said in an interview that if he'd known how comfy they were, he'd buy loads of them! :laugh3: (which i can so relate to...cos i bought a 2nd pair of the exact same adidas shoes recently...cos they were that comfy! :wacky: )
  5. nah, birthday parties are fine. tbh, it's a rather vague (imo) law that says "outings" are fine, but "gatherings" are illegal. & i think it's an old law left behind from the days when Malaysia & Singapore went through a period of racial riots & unrest shortly after gaining independence from British rule. only thing is the govts (Malaysia has a similar law too) never really did away with that law & these days it gets brought up mostly in relation to any political activity by the oppositions. Singapore Makes Public Assemblies Illegal
  6. awww...but that's like a view of his back! haha :P i think young Gary's just as cute...just in a different way. cos of the baby face, even in his early 20s (based on my estimate of his age at the time of that interview). but it seems that because of his baby face too, he's aging very gracefully so far... :wacky: ...just as long as he doesn't put on a cap! good gawd! i'm sorry, but Gary, stick to beanies if you must cover up your (lovely) hair. you can't pull of a cap/hat at all!

Favorite performance: V Festival 2009 when the guys became last minute stand-ins for Oasis...they all really looked like they were both in awe of having the honour + having the time of their lives...even on the TV recordings (cos i wasn't there)...& their cover of Wonderwall + Champagne Supernova... :wacky: & this... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TP3V-V_Gg1w]Snow Patrol, "Run" (Live At The V Festival 2009)[/ame] 12. With a name that I'd never chosen, I can take my first steps, As a child of 25 19. Favorite quote by a Snow Patrol member: "Contrary to whatever liar told me there were no spiders to worry about in the cities, this is one of the deadliest in the world and lives in nearly every garden in Sydney. Before I passed out, I recall Rory (my driver) saying it had the ability to jump 3 feet in the air and bite a fella on his man-cakes. Bang, I hit the floor of the car." ...yup, that sounds about right as far as Aussie wildlife & spiders go. :dozey:
  8. nobody? :dozey:
  9. i never get tired of that video...another awesome work from LP & especially, DJ/Director Hahn. :D
  10. ooooh....Matthew Goode....Matthew Goode as the scruffy heartbroken Irishman with beautiful Irish but inaccurately located settings in Leap Year... *melts* :wacky: i swear, the only reason i still rewatch that movie countless times is just for Matthew Goode + the Irish settings...pure eye candy motivated :P & i'm all for beardy guys.........but not full beards. just the stubbly not-quite-full-grown kind that you've showcased in the spoilers + Gary picspam. there's just something about the scruffy "i didn't care to shave" look for me... :wacky: Mon The Biffy!!! ;) btw, i know this is still pretty OT, but you reminded me of the cartoon trailer i saw in the cinema today & last week...James McAvoy as a garden gnome called Gnomeo!?!?!?! :laugh3:
  11. there's a slight misconception outside of Singapore about the chewing gum law. chewing gum (i.e. the bubble gum sweets kind) cannot be sold in Singapore by law. however, dental gum can be sold over the counter at pharmacies...but you will have to write down your name & i can't remember if it was phone number or Identity Card No. or both that i had to write down. as low as the crime rate is in Singapore (i've seen a banner that read "low crime does not mean no crime"), the police can't really be arresting every person seen chewing gum...short of hauling every gum chewer into a lab just to test if it's dental gum or bubble gum. & actually, you'd get fined for most things first. caning & jailing is for more serious crimes. like what is said in the media about the govt or the Lee family. which is taken VERY seriously. international media organisations have been taken to court over what they've published. oh...& you need to have a permit to stage any form of peaceful protest or gathering of more than 4 persons & how they deal with any form of gathering that even hints of a protest. my favourite was when the police's Special Ops Command were deployed with no less than 4 riot buses for a gathering of 8 people who wanted to stage a protest by doing a photo shoot of their toys "protesting" back in 2007. :dozey: Singapore police sends 4 riot buses to deal with Ultraman? it was never reported in the local Singapore media, but blogs & Reuters spread the word...
  12. hmmm...i hope someone sees this in time & can make it & hence spare me the embarrassment of going solo for a party with the guys! :embarrassed: if any of you are following We Are Scientists on FB, you may (or may not) know that they ran a contest for invites to a party somewhere in London where they'll be playing an acoustic gig + free food & drinks. well, yours truly gave it a shot...not expecting to ever be picked as i'm not the luckiest person around for these sort of things. BUT I ACTUALLY FRIGGING WON!!! :D  ...except that i now have another problem. the invite's for me & a friend. & so far the ppl i know who'd come for this party with me are either not in London or can't make it. :( so, if anyone is free on this Thursday (18 Nov) evening & in London (party's from 5.30PM-8.30PM, guys are performing around 6.30PM), pls PM me...or if you know who i am in FB/Twitter, drop me a msg ASAP to be my +1! * NOTE: you must be 18+ to be able to go or at least 16+ (in which case you're meant to go with 1 adult & i'm the adult in this situation...cos i'm 30. i promise that i don't bite. :P)
  13. haven't seen the episode myself, but have seen both the sneak peek of her doing the 'Umbrella' mashup + a full performance of Cee-Lo's 'Forget You' & it's good! :)
  14. it was reported earlier this year in a few proper news sites & entertainment sites/mags that Coldplay have given the go ahead for Glee to cover their songs (i.e. Glee now has access to their entire catalogue). & the Glee cast & creator have mentioned in interviews before that they'd love to cover a Coldplay song or do a Coldplay-themed episode. + the band initially rejected a request from the show's creator to do a Coldplay-themed episode. SPIN | 'Glee' to Add Coldplay Music PopWatch | Coldplay gives 'Glee' their catalog: Is it the right fit? (links to a Reuters report as source) (i agree with their opinion that Rachel should not be allowed to sing lead in any of the songs! :P) The Independent | Coldplay bows to irresistible force of 'Glee' Billboard | Coldplay Allows 'Glee' To Use Its Songs recently, there are some rumours about Chris Martin appearing in Glee also (a slight possibility since Gwyneth is in the coming one), so the general assumption/speculation is that it's very likely a full Coldplay-themed episode. i'm guessing if it is, it will have to do with a kind of theme that Mr Shue wants the kids to work on or learn from...as is the general pattern with the artist-themed episodes. & i like Blaine too. it's nice to see another openly gay character in the show. Kurt was starting to look really lonely & it's really awful to see him get bullied constantly for being "different". :( ...tho his dad is an amazing character, that i initially had assumed he'd be a stereotypical homophobic redneck kind of guy. :embarrassed:
  15. to add on to your point...in general, international students are cash cows for UK unis. same in Aussie unis also. always have been, always will be. though there are only so many international students all the unis in the world can milk for cash. if it goes up higher, & given that the UK Pound Sterling is still quite strong against most other currencies (e.g. £1 = in the region of RM5; RM being the local currency in Malaysia), there will obviously be a drop in international students. so the situation goes back to square one where the local students' fees will need to be raised given the funding cuts. & just to give an idea of how much the full fee is, for my 1yr postgraduate degree, i paid £15k. my classmates who are local students pay £4k. & this isn't Oxford/Cambridge's fees (i'm not THAT smart/loaded :P). in terms of a medical undergraduate degree, i've heard that Malaysian parents/students typically have to be prepared to pay RM1million+ (after currency conversion) for their education alone, before adding in accommodation & living costs.
  16. loved the Glee acapella cover of Teenage Dream! :) but after seeing the girls cover yet another Bon Jovi / rock song, i now REALLY hope that the girls won't be the ones singing lead for the Coldplay songs in the Coldplay episode when it comes around. :\
  17. Bon Jovi isn't really heavy metal, imo...tho i do associate them & their songs with my teenage years too. fun times. :) Bon Jovi live in Malaysia is also my first gig (that i actually wanted to go to & remember well enough to be able to reminisce)
  18. i guess it's just another form of blogging or longer tweets...whichever way you want to see it. tho i don't understand it either...or even this thing where just about every other Tumblr account about a band/artist is something along the lines of "fuckyeah<insert_name_of_band_artist_actor_actress_etc>" haha...yeah, that'd be quite a bummer...getting wet & all. but at least it's in a covered/indoor venue. & while the Biffy fans are a mental bunch, especially with the rockier songs like That Golden Rule, it's in a good way. you'll end up enjoying yourself the entire time. i found myself being pushed by the crowd to the front. & a random guy even insisted on lifting another girl who was there on her own & me up on his shoulders (one at a time, of course)...up until the security yelled/gestured at me to get back down. :dozey:
  19. they made the rookie mistake of assuming the most handsome guy in the band is the lead singer... :P
  20. ah...that iTunes Festival...that i tried to apply for tickets, but didn't get a single one. not even the Biffy Clyro VIP tickets. :disappointed: i heard about the disgrace that was Axl Rose's diva-ness & tantrums at the Reading & Leeds Festivals & the GNR gig in Ireland. & i think Simon's right in describing it as embarrassing to see what GNR & Axl Rose have become. apparently it was so bad in Ireland that bottles were thrown at them & it was pure chaos! :( in comparison, Axl's ex-bandmate Slash has been getting gushing reviews & nothing but great comments from awestruck DJs who've met/interviewed him. :P anyway, back to Biffy...i ended up buying the 2-CD Dermot O'Leary live sessions compilation thing. if only just mainly for the Biffy cover of that Cheryl Cole song & a couple other covers & live session tracks. :D
  21. heard another new Daft Punk track last weekend! Annie Mac on BBC1 had a "world exclusive" for the past 2wks to play 2 of the new Daft Punk songs off the soundtrack. admittedly Derezzed wasn't that exclusive, since by the time she'd played it, it was well after that clip with the song had been making it's viral rounds. but the 2nd, i think is safe to say was pretty exclusive: the title track of the movie soundtrack! & she played it not, once...but twice! :D Stereogum | Daft Punk – “Tron Legacy”
  22. why hasn't anyone pointed this out yet? (or maybe it's just me being weird...) BEN WITH HAIR!!! :stunned: 'nuff sed. :P he's actually admitted on an interview that he is running out of space for tattoos already... which reminds me...going back to that same interview... BEHOLD!!! the amazing footballing/guitar playing skills of Simon Neill!!! [ame= ] [/ame]
  23. if you guys don't already follow them, you should follow More Than Good Hooks either via their blog or on Twitter. they usually do a good job of keeping track of all the gigs in the region. they also have a Street Team thing, tho i think not much activity recently.
  24. Dave "Fresh Poooooot!!!!" Grohl...the original coffee junkie. haha :wacky: tho Nathan's not looking that sinister there with Dave. that's more like..........................Nathan trying to do "Blue Steel"! :laugh3:
  25. i'd like to think that the only reason he's still in is cos the phone voters are having a laugh messing up the system. :P cos you can tell that the judges are horrified he keeps getting thru...& try their utmost best to be diplomatic with him. including Louis - who i bet is probably thankful he has that Irish Shirley Bassey still in the game to make up for Wagner.
