= Coldplay Record/CD Collectors' Thread =
Hey guys, So I've been collecting vinyl for a while now across multiple artists, but I realised that my Coldplay collection is still a little bit weak. I was wondering if anyone knew which singles had been released on vinyl so I can start hunting them down? I have the singles collection coming to me for Christmas and I already own ETIAW, Midnight (RSD Release), Up with the Birds (RSD Release) and Hurts like Heaven (RSD Release)-- but I'm sure there must be more? Also was wondering what people's thoughts were about the promo CD's? How much would you pay for them? Charrs for any help!

Oh wow, look at this thread. There used to be a time in which we were all on here pretty much hourly nattering away for no reason. How times change eh? :')

[2-Jul-2014] Royal Albert Hall, London, UK
So I was really lucky and managed to get a ticket for the second date after I had all but given up hope. This was a bit of a shambles; but then it always would be for that little seating with that many people... Can't help but feel there might have been better ways to have done it though! (Like for a start not having other tickets also go on sale at 9.30am too!) My advice to people who are still after one: keep checking back and oddly refreshing. When I got on to buy the second date this afternoon, there were a handful of tickets up for grabs for the first show as well. And they also seem to be the odd ticket filtering back through the system. I definitely was really lucky and got one of those. I thought I had used up all my Coldplay Karma when, in the second sale, I only got greeted with 'error' pages until they announced it was sold out. For some reason (be it fate or probably more likely denial that I hadn't got one) I stayed there and refreshed the pages for half hour more. And just as I decided it was my last refresh, the box seats and circle seats popped back up. So nabbed myself one... Over 90 minutes after the original sale started. Never give up hope guys! I have my fingers crossed for more of you to get them

12 Coldplay Months of 2013: December (Merry Coldplay Christmas!)
December turned out to be a ridiculously busy month for the band with live performances, award nominations and both The Oracle and Anchorman getting back on their soapboxes. It felt like every day more news awaited us... The Oracle Answers A Lot of Questions: December Edition I // II // III Potential Goldware for Coldplay in January: Nominations for the 56th Grammy Awards were announced and all our jaws hit the floor when Coldplay were nominated for not one, but two GRAMMYs! Atlas was nominated for 'Best Song Written For Visual Media' whilst Live 2013 was nominated for 'Best Music Film'. The guys see themselves going up against the likes of Mumford & Sons (Best Music Film) and Adele (Visual Media) (you can see the full list here). We'll have to wait until 26th January to find out whether they've been successful-- keep your fingers and toes crossed! Atlas Continues Global Domination: If the GRAMMYs news wasn't exciting enough-- Atlas proved itself to be (potentially) even more golden by receiving a nomination in the Golden Globe Awards. The track has been nominated for 'Best Original Song from a Motion Picture'. It'll be doing battle against 'Let it Go' (Frozen), 'Ordinary Love' (Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom'), 'Please Mr. Kennedy' (Inside Llewyn Davis), 'Sweet Than Fiction' (One Chance). You can listen to them all here. The results will be revealed on 12th January. Xylobands get retired (maybe): A lot of speculation had been rattling around as to whether Xylobands would follow Coldplay after the MX-era has finished (especially if the financial reports were indeed true-- more on that later). Xyloband creator, Jason Regler, sparked more speculation after he tweeted: On first read it sounds like the Xylobands were being taken out of circulation, but Regler quickly confused matters further by amending his original tweet: Both of the tweets were then swiftly deleted (not fast enough to put off the eagle eyed Coldplayers though) along with Regler's Twitter account. So we're no closer to figuring out whether we'll see the Xylobands in future-- but it does seem like their creator will no longer be involved. Financial Doubts Over Xylobands (so yet more speculation): Earlier in the year there had been speculation (several times over) about how much the Xylobands cost Coldplay. However in December, The Mirror published figures from Companies House which indicated that Coldplay spent a whopping £4.22MILLION on the Xylobands over the duration of the tour! I'm sure all of us can agree that the Xylobands were definitely worth it (especially as it only worked out at £3 each)-- but it further fuelled speculation about longevity of the Xylobands. However despite all these costs-- it was Coldplay's highest grossing tour, bringing in £35MILLION (a profit of £14MILLION). [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxYjRx9fJgY]Coldplay Walk On Stage XyloBands - YouTube[/ame] Ding Dong Merrily On High Completely out of the blue, Coldplay played a super secret-- and extremely tiny-- gig at Ring O'Bells pub in Somerset. The show appeared to be a warm-up for the Under1Roof gig (which happened later in the week) but it also came to surface that it wasn't only Coldplay that performed-- they were joined by Chas N' Dave, Connor Maynard, Becky Hill, Royal Blood and Lewis Watson. It soon came to light that this merry showcase was organised by Parlophone chair Miles Leonard-- who part owns the Ring O'Bells-- as a showcase to 100 very lucky VIP's. The setlist: Yellow Clocks The Scientist GPASUYF Viva La Vida Charlie Brown Paradise ETIAW Christmas Lights A Return to Radio 1 Fearne Cotton hosted her annual Radio 1 Christmas houseparty. The event yearly sees a whole host of DJ's, musicians and competition winners come together and celebrate Christmas with a live show full of antics and exclusive live performances. Throughout the week Cotton had been advertising a 'super secret guest performance' which had speculation running rife-- though a lot of us suspected that the boys would surface... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gg3mXQWJdLI]Coldplay - White Christmas in the Christmas Live Lounge - YouTube[/ame] Of course they did! Chris and Jonny appeared to play both 'White Christmas' (video above) and 'Christmas Lights' live on the radio. They also stuck around long enough to be part of Radio 1's Christmas Spoof 'Mulled Wines' video (which also features Rizzle Kicks, Jake Bugg, Keith Lemon and Bastille): [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2LhnfEoecA]MULLED WINES OFFICIAL VIDEO - YouTube[/ame] And then later that day... As if I need to even talk about what happened later that evening. :loveshower: COLDPLAY CAME BACK :loveshower: If you want a full, blow-by-blow account of the evening, then where better to head than the forum (51 pages of build up and post analysis and counting). Here's some of the highlights: The Setlist: Clocks Charlie Brown Fix You Atlas Viva La Vida Paradise The Scientist ETIAW White Christmas (+choir) Christmas Lights [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsY83nQkk54]Coldplay - Atlas (Live debut) - Eventim Hammersmith Apollo - Live in London - December 19 2013 - YouTube[/ame] [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvqIIZ-Gorw]Coldplay Live - Charlie Brown at Under1Roof 2013 - Hammersmith Apollo - YouTube[/ame] [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7awMiVNTgc]Coldplay - Fix You (HD) - Eventim Hammersmith Apollo - 19.12.13 - YouTube[/ame] [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7awMiVNTgc]Coldplay - Fix You (HD) - Eventim Hammersmith Apollo - 19.12.13 - YouTube[/ame] They didn't disappoint me at all. In fact I realized how much I miss them!! The whole band was on fire and seemed to be enjoying themselves as much as we were Apart from David Brent who isn't my cup of tea, I had fun with the other performers. Kid's company videos were very touching also. It's such a beautiful work and the night was just perfect to celebrate it I just hope that it doesn't take me that long to feel like this again. I just can't get enough -- Thanks Cris_Santos Was around 3 rows from the front, in front of Jonny. Beautiful concert! So many people around me were in tears during The Scientist Great atmosphere. -- Thanks CiaranF I'm sort of trying to pull myself together again after last night. They aced it. 10/10. Every single second was amazing and made me realize how much I'd missed them! -- Thanks PrincessofChina As for Coldplay what can I say. WOW is the word I am looking for. With so many songs there were obviously a few which went going to be played. It was nice to be there for the Live Debut of Atlas and Viva La Vida was a right crowd pleaser. It was actually a surprise for me that Yellow wasn't sung. Still it as one incredible set and the snow during White Christmas was amazing. Also it was nice to end the year with Christmas Lights.-- Thanks samc83 Well I thought it was the perfect gig and put me right in the xmas mood - everything was spot on. They ran it perfectly - no big gaps between things - great line up, great vibe...perfect. Coldplay absolutely delivered - everyone was jumping and they just look like they are enjoying it as much as everyone else which is lovely to see. --Thanks dynamiccoins MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM COLDPLAY So, that's 2013 wrapped up. Now you're all caught up, you can start looking towards 2014... Hopefully we'll see LP6 and a new tour-- or maybe we won't. Stay tuned! Happy New Year!

I did too. Normally they have to define whether it is stalls standing or circle standing when you buy. However they don't seem to have so I am wondering whether it is first come, first served on the standing and they'll allow x amount of people into stalls standing before they route the others to circle standing :stunned:

Ahaha. Yes, yes we do  Maybe it is because we are bringing the Andover vibe with us? :P You very well may bump in to me on the train home then (or we can coordinate it...?) I'll be going from Waterloo back to Southampton Central*. My plan would be the 12:05 train all being well, but yeah, I have the option of the 1:15 if it goes wrong too. I'm rather glad the trains down to Southampton run until late otherwise I would've been sleeping on train stations far more than I already have. (*I was perhaps going to go back to my parents place the night before as I'm on Christmas holidays after Coldplay, but yeah, I saw the trains and thought better of it)

I'm also flying solo. So I will see you all in the queue! It's show number 4 for me as well... And every time I've been it has been freezing cold. So does this mean everyone should prepare for a freezing cold, rainy day? Maybe I won't queue for long then :stunned:

Rizzle Kicks are actually pretty fun to see live... I've seen them 4 times before (including their album launch). You do all have to learn to do the hump though-- it's like a rule. I've been to HMV Hammersmith Apollo (as it used to be called) a few times for gigs. It's quite a decent venue and the floor is sloped so wherever you end up you can see. Also it's really intimate for Coldplay. I saw Lynyrd Skynyrd there and even right at the back I could see/hear everything

My plan is to get an early train up to London and queue all day. That is if my boss lets me have the time off... :laugh3:

Curfew will be 11pm most likely-- maybe 11:30 given the event. Coldplay will likely be the last act on at 9:30ish or so. It'll be a steady stream of entertainment though

Anyone else surprised at how easy that was? I just wandered back to my desk from the lab at 9:02-- thought, 'ah I will try it' and bam, had it before I even really panicked about it. Looking forward to it!

What football team does Chris support?
We used to have a lot of French players. I think the number has dramatically reduced since our 00's heyday. :laugh3:

Mixtape Exchange XIV CLOSED! XVI coming soon!!! Very soon!
Sorry, this is much later than I intended. I got roped in to so much this week! Anyway, excuses aside, here's my review: 1) Starts off with this huge organ sound which makes me feel really tiny. And then there's the addition of an acoustic guitar and the occasional xylophone (?) tinging. Love the male vocals. I get the feeling that I know this, or at least I should know the artist... Is it Arcade Fire? (Because if it is, I really don't know why I keep turning my nose up at them for the sake of it) 2) I'm not one for songs that have vocals in another language (I know, I just can't sing along and I think that's one of my favourite parts of live music?) but I can't not like this... It's horrendously funky. Starts off with just an electric guitar and then there's the addition of these minimal drums and it just makes me want to dance. And when the keyboard joins in I can't help it. And dat brass as well. This is brilliantly catchy and I should start expanding my horizons. 3) Begins a little backwards I think-- starts sounding like it might be a synth track and then instead there's a piano? I really like the piano on this, I'm not too keen on the vocalist just because they are a little too soft and whispery for me. I really love when the drum, bass and violins join in on this though, that's when the track really comes to life for me personally. 4) Real change of pace I guess on this one-- more hip-hop, R'n'B than the others. And hey I recognise that voice-- Plan B. I've not listened to a lot of his stuff beyond his whole blues album... I probably should though because I really like this. Also I think that might be Labrinth too? 5) Starts off quite sedately with a guitar and a reserved drumbeat before the male vocalist comes sliding over the top. I kind of find this maybe a bit too ballady for me? It's a little too slow. 6) I know this! John Mayer. Love him so much. Love this track. Love. Love. Love :awesome: Also this is the second mixtape with him on, right? Coldplaying likes John Mayer. And also even better-- he's announced he's well enough to do live shows again so I'm hoping for a UK date to see him again... It's been 3 years and too long. /johnmayerspiel 7) And I also know this one too. Mumford & Sons- Hopeless Wanderer. Why is it everything they do sounds so anthemic? I always want to stretch out my arms and sing a long. This track is brilliant live too. 8) Oh I like how this sounds with the two guitars being plucked alongside the synth before one of them kicks off into more of a rhythm when the vocalist comes in. I really like his vocal tone too-- so you keep proving my irrational 'I don't get other language songs' things wrong. Which is good work. I love the chorus too, feels really wide open and expansive. I want to sway in time to it. 9) Starts off with a latin-esque guitar before being joined with everything I would consider latin sounding-- including a male vocal harmony. Again really catchy, quite simple but it makes me smile which is what matters I guess? 10) Oh this sounds perky. It's played on a ukelele isn't it at first (at least it sounds like it...)? And a shaker in the background before the drum joins in alongside the vocalist-- which sounds like an all male harmony? The chorus is a bit of a change of pace, sounds a bit romantic with a guitar and a slower pace and 'ohhhing' of the harmonies. I'm excited to find out who this is because I really love it :dazzled: 11) This one feels slower with a sedate drumbeat alongside an acoustic guitar and a bass-- I think my favourite part of this is the contrast between the two guitars actually. I find the shifts in tone in the vocalist a bit annoying that it sprials from a whisper to a deep warble to an almost rock-esque shout. It confuses me a bit. 12) I always wonder for a split second if this is going to be Temptation by Heaven 17 or The Killers because I reckon the start sounds the same... But yep, The Killers. Tranquilize is seriously underrated; I love it, admittedly has been a while since I listened to it so it's nice to be reminded there is more to The Killers than Hot Fuss and Battle Born. 13) Synthy drawn out intro before a bass kicks in alongside a electronic drumbeat. And then a little quirky keyboard thrown in there too-- little bit distorted. And a violin sample and guitar used sparingly. I really like this. And hey, I really love the vocals too. Oh this is wicked. Especially in the chorus which is sort of like a minimalist version before it comes back with extra electric guitar interjections. And the bit where it strips away being synthy in favour for just having drums and guitar before hitting the synths back. Ahh man, there's so much in this track to like. I've listened to it 6-7 times more than the rest of the tape and I still can't get over it. 14) Oh this starts a bit sudden with it's hammering of keys and drums and another instrument that I can't quite pin down. It's interesting and kind of overpowers the vocalist at first-- which I kind of like with regards to this track. I don't like the shift towards piano primary for the chorus though. Don't know why... 15) Quiet guitar alongside a piano intro which then has the addition of a sort of faded vocalist and quiet drumming. It's quite quiet I guess is the best way to describe it. It's peaceful and a bit charming. I do admittedly prefer when the guitars and synths join in at their little intermittent parts/more towards the end-- just because that's more to how my music taste leans. 16) Whoa this guy's voice is deep. Reminds me of Gabriel Bruce. It's mainly his vocals that dominate the track alongside the later addition of his more falsetto leaning compadre's that take over. There's a guitar and drum in the background but I'm mainly focussing on the vocals no matter what because they are so powerful. And I was going to say there's a trumpet, but on closer listen I think that's one of the vocalists making those sounds  Really like this one again. Overall I really enjoyed my tape. There are some definite stand out tracks but on the whole it's made me realise that I should start listening to more music in other languages because it doesn't matter that I can't sing along-- it's really catchy! Thanks very much for making this for me and can't wait to check out some more of the artists.

The Muse Thread - Hate This & I'll Hate You
^Chris Martin's voice is weak compared to a lot of artists on the circuit. And it's got worse since he started to bounce around so much. But they're still fun to see live. I miss Muse. I've got a countdown until The Emirates. And I have people to go with for once so even more excited :awesome: (Hi btw guize, long time no see)

The Kodaline Thread
Aw, I hoped to see a thread about Kodaline in here. Absolutely love them. Was supposed to be seeing them in Brighton tonight but couldn't afford the trainfare  so I'm hopefully going to catch them in April or something when they come to Portsmouth. Also they're so lovely. We ran a band of the day/introducing feature on them last May (I think) and they were literally so sweet and thankful about it. I wouldn't want them to tour with Coldplay though. They deserve to make a name for themselves without being tabbed as the next Coldplay or Coldplay support band ect.

Foxygen
I keep hearing about them and I keep meaning to listen. Probably should give it a go, I reckon I will enjoy it.
