  1. Ah, let me know. I need to decide whether I make room for them in my Reading schedule (currently it looks like Miike Snow vs. The Vaccines) Yeah, pretty much. NME have to have one new band to champion though. Hence Spector. I haven't come across that actually because a lot of my festivals haven't gone OTT on DJ's yet. Most of the DJ's are at Creamfields/Outlook/Hideout-- they have their own specialist festivals thankfully (my brother does them, I do mine). But yeah, I'm glad they're far enough away not to disrupt your experience.
  2. The new TDCC album is actually pretty enjoyable if you ask me. It's slightly less sunshine infectious than their previous but for a September release I think it fits better with the season. There aren't really any tracks in the album that stand out as much as anything on Tourist History. I am not alone in thinking the new Miike Snow is rubbish then?! God what a let down after theory stunning debut. I only like about half the album and I bought the Jackalope edition, royally ripped off was I. I've also heard they are terrible live...? I agree with this 100%. If you look at the new bands coming out that are hotly tipped by critics/journalists they're not really doing anything new or trying to reform the musical landscape. NME have tabbed Spector to be massive... For reviving 'indie guitar music' so it really is the same old formula (not that I don't love Spector, but you get what I mean). And the Skrillex thing riles me up. Every man and his dog can do what he is doing and everyone loves it... And people are paying horrendous prices to see that over real bands. At least if you see Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (in the same vein of music I guess), he actually sings... And oh yeah, he uses both vinyl and macbook... And he has dancing dinosaur girls. That's how it ahould be done. (Do I sound like a horrendous music snob yet?)
  3. ^^I wonder why too. Especially considering journalists have already begun to hear it. I'm thinking that they are pushing it back so not to clash with The Killers. Clashing with other massive releases means their first week sales would be piss poor because they'd have to divide people (I for one would buy both, but some people may not). Anyway... Did people see the track-by-track guide by a French journalist?
  4. No, you're not alone. I love UD; it's one of my top played on iTunes for Muse. Something about it clicks for me. And it wasn't my first Muse album. I have to disagree with a few of these. I reckon Velociraptor! is better that West Ryder... Just because Velociraptor! is easier to get in to. I can only listen to some tracks on West Ryder when I'm in a certain mood otherwise it grates on me. Also Velociraptor translates really well live-- whereas only certain tracks of WR do. With Humbug, it was darker and more mature. But I think that took some of the appeal off Arctic Monkeys, and it made their live shows become a little more sedate at points (when I saw them in Benicassim people stood stock still for 90% of Humbug tracks). Even though I do like Humbug, I prefer Suck It And See because it's more fun and I think the Arctic Monkeys shouldn't take themselves too seriously, just because most of the fans have been with them since their late adolescence. Gossamer = Manners. It's really The Temper Trap albums that are the disappointing out of the 2. Otherwise I agree with you. But you say that, I think the quality of debut albums coming out over the last few years are the highest quality they've been for years... Suego Faults, An Awesome Wave, America Give Up, Other People's Problems, Django Django, Enjoy it While it Lasts...
  5. Has it arrived at the next destination yet?
  6. ^^You work at a music publication...? Please say it's not NME otherwise I would feel mega-guilty over all the bashing I have done :uhoh: Anyway, I am glad what you have heard was good. It gives me some faith. You see I won't judge the album until I've heard it and the idea of dubstep and jazz ect doesn't scare me... Because experimentation isn't a bad thing-- it just becomes a bad idea when used... well, badly. I don't have much hope though just because I have spent too much time over the last year getting excited for albums and things-- only to have disappointment after disappointment. Now I am in the mentality 'expect the worst which means you're always pleasantly surprised'. (And side note Violet: TDCC and The Vaccines have both leaked)
  7. I find it a little cheesy tbh. I always find anything to do with neuroscience cheesy though. Just because somehow they think pretty colours makes learning about the brain fun!!
  8. Heads up that you can get presale at noon (local time) if you head to the Wolf Gang Facebook page and follow the link. General sale starts soon after-- I think through the same place and obviously directly from venues. For those in the UK he's doing a 1 off show in London (at Madame Jo Jo's) 18/9. Tickets also found on the Facebook.

  11. Coldplay dazzle a sold-out Garden A review of Coldplay at TD Garden on Sunday July 30, 2012 The line “with great power comes great responsibility” may be overused, but it’s apparent when it comes to Coldplay. The English foursome is without a doubt one of the biggest bands in the world, which means they’re a major draw for fans, but also for criticism. Their latest album, Mylo Xyloto, which they’ve been touring in support of since last year, only received mixed reviews. However, at their stop at Boston’s TD Garden on Sunday night they left no doubt that they deserve to be amongst the biggest acts in the world with a grand performance before a sold-out crowd. Energy and creativity fuel Coldplay’s current show. The energy started with frontman Chris Martin, who performed like a man who’s been trapped behind a piano for years, dying to get out. The singer explored every bit of the band’s extensive stage and catwalk, by running, jumping, rolling, and dancing his way through show. The creativity came in the form of the ingenious idea to make fans part of the visual dynamic of the show by issuing every attendee a colored wristband that lit up in unison at certain points of the performance. The result was a dazzling display that charged songs like “Hurts Like Heaven”, “Paradise”, and “Charlie Brown”. Their set was heavy on new material, such as the aforementioned trio, all of which both looked and sounded like they were built for arenas thanks to the stunningly colorful imagery and big, sing-along choruses. They’ve certainly added some new tricks, but Coldplay also stayed true to their old ways with confetti cannons, huge balloons, and several stages, as they relocated to the end of the catwalk to take the tempo down a bit. Included was the ballad “Warning Sign”, which Martin amusingly screwed up then jokingly claimed that thoughts of the Olympics had distracted him. The band also relocated, one by one, to a side stage in the loge section of the Garden for one of the few X & Y tunes in “Speed of Sound”, before returning to the main stage for the encore. The night ended in spectacular fashion as a laser show accompanied the usual piano bench-rocking of “Clocks” before Martin seemed to give everything he had left to his leaps in “Fix You”, only to go at it once more as he ran about the entire stage for closer “Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall”. Coldplay have had the power of one of music’s biggest acts for years and with this show so well-catered to an arena audience, they’ve shown that they’ve not only accepted, but are enjoying the responsibility. Rising star Marina and the Diamonds opened the show with a charming set that drew many fans in early with bouncy synthpop numbers like “I Am Not a Robot” and “Primadonna” serving as warm-ups before finally getting fans out of their seats with “Radioactive”. 12. I didn't know about the band at all until last month; so you've probably got one up on me  I saw them live by chance and then ended up getting the album straight after.
  13. Hold Fast- The Crookes. Really enjoyable.
  14. ^^I didn't I'm afraid; sorry. I guess we can ask TwistedMind to. I have so many tickets and scraps and stuff that I had to do something with them. Originally I had them all up on my walls but I kept moving yearly and it was a pain to deconstruct my 'wall of fame' and then put it back together again-- some of the tickets were getting damaged. So it made more sense to put it somewhere permanent. And I wish I had one in my family  Although people do say I react like a meerkat when I hear things that interest me in conversations. I suddenly sit up and jump to alert.

  16. Thanks guys. You're right, it's not my first time scrapbooking. I have one (technically now 2 volumes of the same one) that I've been doing to collect all my gig photos, memorabilia and memories in to (I'm currently in the process of doing my Coldplay page from the O2 last year). ETA: Just been sent. Should be there within a week maximum...
  17. Book is all sealed up and ready to be posted; sorry it has taken me a while. I will post it as soon as I can get to an open post office (apparently our local one has shut?) So it will be at the latest leaving me on Monday.
  18. UK peeps that are interested... It's just been announced there is a one off show in London on 18th September. (I've worked out it's going to cost me triple the ticket price in train fare. And I'm still going to do it )

  20. Coldplay concert: One grand mutual exchange of love By Ben Rayner Ah, why struggle against it? I’ve been so desperate to find something original to say about Coldplay’s Monday-night gig at the Air Canada Centre that I’ve resorted, since getting home nearly three hours ago, to thumbing through a dictionary of literary quotations set on “love” in search of what professional journalists such as I call a “lede.” This is the best I could come up with. I’ve absolutely no business invoking Percy Bysshe Shelley’s Prometheus Unbound in relation to the work of Chris Martin — absolutely no business at all, and may the deluge of justifiable hate-Tweets thusly accumulate in kind — but I still believe the following verse applies to what Martin et al. are up to on their current Mylo Xyloto tour: All love is sweet, Given or returned. Common as light is Love, And its familiar voice wearies not ever. They who inspire it are most fortunate, As I am now; but those who feel it most Are happier still. Coldplay at the ACC on Monday night was an ultraviolet-lit, confetti-spewing arena-rock love machine. If you didn’t feel like loving it and being believably loved in return going in, there were enough high- and low-tech distractions — sawing lasers, bounding beach balls, inflatable glowing objects scattered hither and thither in the stands and thousands of dollars’ worth of blinking LED bracelets handed out to patrons on their way into the venue — operating in service of one grand, mutual exchange of love that you had to allow yourself to succumb to the larger process or risk feeling less than human. My bracelet didn’t work, for the record, but why should a single, doubting, maybe-karmic wardrobe malfunction detract from the overall, undeniable spiritual elevation of some 20,000 other doting fans? From up-jackin’ openers “Hurts Like Heaven” and “In My Place” through such knowingly “whoa-ooh-ooah”-ing, throng-acknowledged soccer-pitch keepers as “Yellow,” “God Put a Smile Upon Your Face” and “Paradise” to surrender-or-die encore must-haves as “Clocks,” “Fix You” and “Every Teardrop is a Waterfall” — and that damned “Fix You” knocks me to my knees as swiftly and as capably as any power ballad I’ve encountered during my 37 years on this planet — the British quartet worked as hard as it could to make you feel like this was, as front man Martin put it early in the evening, “the best concert we’ve ever played in our lives.” Every single tune was delivered full at full, everybody-in throttle, as Martin bounded up and down the neon-lit proscenium like the world’s most tireless summer-camp facilitator. Every available space in the script or opportunity for an impromptu hometown slant in the lyric sheet was given over to letting Toronto know how much Coldplay appreciated — and loved — its Toronto fans for being a part of this monstrous explosion of fannish love for Coldplay and the appreciative love-in-return that Coldplay felt for its Toronto fans. It was an ebullient, on-your-feet, eruptive kinda night out from start to finish, and that’s a tough bill of goods to sell believably on a city-by-city basis when your touring itinerary is set out in front of you for well in excess of a single calendar year. I’ve no idea how these four likeable blokes translate the Everyman-ish OK-ness of what they do together into proper tent-revival mania every time they come to town, but they do it very well. And that’s perfectly . . . OK. [source]
  21. Concert Review: Coldplay put on an ultimately forgettable show in Toronto Jon Dekel Jul 24, 2012 – 11:57 AM ET Believe it or not there was a time when liking Colplay was considered cool. But those days, like the majority of Chris Martin’s curly ‘fro and ability to come across as believably humble, went away as soon as the naturally diminutive Greek and Latin First Class honours grad decided to make declarative sentences his communicatus operandi – and, in turn, take his label’s financial fortune on his back. The Chris Martin – and make no mistake, despite drummer Will Champion’s predilection for soccer-chanting choruses, as Martin goes, so goes Coldplay — that tumbles and looks bemused into the camera these days is neither cool nor humble, what Martin peddles in is earnestness (and how!). Luckily for him, earnestness sells, especially in a world where so little can truly be described as genuinely earnest – just ask Aaron Sorkin. Likewise, Martin comes across as friendly and genuine in a way that makes hating him both easy and readily available (See: “You know how I know you’re gay?” from The 40 Year Old Virgin), and all of this works for everyone, until it simply runs out of steam. Which, if yesterday’s show is any indication, it might just be. As Martin pointed out during yesterday’s sold out performance at the Air Canada Centre (the first of a two-night stand), this is “something like the 50th” performance the group has had in Toronto, and, despite a smorgasbord of shiny new toys — literally, the band gave every member of the audience a bracelet which lit up in sync to several of the numbers — the band themselves appeared to be tired of playing the same songs in a believably sincere manner. By my count (and I’ve seen Coldplay seven times now), Martin tumbled about half as much as earlier in the same tour, while the rest of the band seemed to hardly muster the energy to reach the emotional peaks of songs such as Viva La Vida or even Fix You, during which bassist Guy Berryman looked utterly bored. As a band whose songs live or die by the heart they put into them live, most of last night’s effort seemed reserved and, dare I say, contrived. Perhaps earlier in their career, Coldplay’s impressive stagecraft and visual acumen could traverse these lulls but they too came up short. While viscerally impressive, the lighted bracelets trick is just an extension of Arcade Fire’s lighted balls, the combination of confetti and balloons sprayed during In My Place was lacking, even by Flaming Lips D.I.Y. standards, and their stage show simply didn’t live up to the muster of the big pop acts (Katy Perry, for example) which employ bigger and better visual distraction. In theory, if one of these fails the other should prop it up, but yesterday’s performance was lackluster on both fronts, making for an enjoyable but ultimately forgettable show. Luckily for the band, they were surrounded by a sold-out crowd. “We’ve got the best fans in the world and everybody knows it,” Martin declared following a sing-a-long to 2004 standout single The Scientist. And he may be right because, for that night at least, they saved his earnest ass. [Source]
  22. ^Started putting bits and pieces together in the wiki; if anyone comes across anything they think needs adding just give me a heads up.
  23. Let's be fair-- all the magazines said the exact same thing when they first started out. I believe the quote in NME was: 'they'd win a sounding just like Radiohead competition judged by Radiohead and another band that sounded just like Radiohead'. I think they first assumed an identity that would get them noticed and sold-- because they had massive troubles cracking the market in comparison to Coldplay (they played the same music showcase-- their show was empty, whilst Coldplay was massive). They went for something that made them similar enough to a band that already worked with a little flair. Then after they had signed and had themselves an album that would sell enough to solidify their place on the label-- they moved for an identity. Because post Showbiz, it's not Radiohead.
  24. Tickets for the O2 show have just started dispatching. Got mine today :D
