I'm surprised there hasn't been a thread about this until now. Personally I think she's guilty of first degree murder. However I'm not sure if the whole "beyond a reasonable doubt" thing will get past the jury. Although after hearing the prosecution's closing arguments, it may be more likely that the jury can come back with guilty on all counts.

Yeah but the fireworks have already been purchased, and they are funded only by donations, so the people that donated (including myself via raffle tickets) probably wouldn't be happy if they didn't get to see all of the fireworks. It actually might be good for businesses though because they'll get two Saturdays in a row with lots of people hanging around. :D

Well I found out earlier today that there indeed was a malfunction with the fireworks last night. So they are rescheduling the fireworks display for next Saturday. oops

I don't think this has happened to me before... I was out to lunch today and shortly after we got there, we heard In My Place (the live version, which was surprising). Then halfway through the meal they played Violet Hill. And as we were paying the bill, Shiver came on. :freak: I've never heard that many Coldplay songs in one place in that short of a timeframe. The odd thing?... it was a Mexican restaurant. Usually you hear, you know, Mexican music in a Mexican restaurant, not oodles of Coldplay!

Wouldn't a real "blank slate" be more of a barter/trade type of scenario? I'm not sure there would really be any such thing as a "most stable" currency that could eventually win over all others. If in theory that happened, it would have to all be produced in the same place, right? Then shipped to the rest of the world. But then people would be like oh hey lets just make the same currency here, but we'll make a notation as to where it was made, subtle differences will develop which will compound over time, and then you're back in the same spot again. People will for whatever reason prefer the currency that is produced in a certain area even if it may not make sense to prefer it. I'm kind of rambling, it may not make much sense, but hopefully you'll see the general sense of what I'm getting at. Back on the original topic, it almost seems as though what happened in the housing market is what's going to happen to the U.S. debt scenario. (On a side note re: the housing market downfall, I recently watched a program on it and some guy who basically predicted the whole thing and told people, they didn't believe him, and he ended up buying all these insurance policies betting against the banks/mortgage companies (betting that it would all backfire). He's a billionaire or something now because of those insurance policies that got paid out to him because he was right.)

I've only had 2 cell phones. I had my first one for about 6 years (some sort of Motorola flip phone), and now I have the LG Envy2... nothing terribly fancy. The only reason I got that one is because flippy Motorola died. I'm going to try to keep this one as long as possible also.

A virus is a living thing (well, I suppose more like an infectious agent), a sunburn is not. In regard to the highlighted area, I agree it can cause it to break through easier. But the virus was already there to begin with. A recurrence can occur after the initial infection by a trigger, but the trigger itself doesn't cause the initial infection.

No, I don't think the sun can wave its magic wand and throw the herpes virus down on you from afar. You can't catch a virus from the sun.

I'm not an expert but I don't think the sun can give you herpes.

I wish I had all the pieces of the puzzle in front of me so I could provide semi-educated input. As I side-comment, I do find the "entitlement" mentality a little frustrating (e.g., Social Security), since such programs contribute to the debt problem. People (like my parents) get upset about the idea of Social Security reform, but what most people seem to forget is that the original intent was to provide income in the last year or two of life. Life expectancies have increased dramatically since Social Security was first introduced, so now it's being paid out for 20 or more years instead of 2 at the most.

Our town had their fireworks tonight. LAMEST. YEAR. EVER. It didn't start until about 15 minutes after it was supposed to, then a bunch were shot off at once to start it out. Then nothing for 5 minutes. Another few. Nothing for another 5 minutes. A whole bunch really low on the lake for a strobe-light effect. Then nothing for another 10 minutes. Then a couple of normal fireworks. And that was it. We had a huge rain storm, with really heavy hail, about 2 hours before the fireworks. I'm wondering if that messed up the stuff that was used to choreograph it somehow. :\
