  1. Just heard Paradise on a Business news channel outro to commercial - it sounded great - more to come, need to get into this discussion on the new direction of Coldplay - quick judgment of paradise - like it, like the new direction and them going into other realms. More to come.
  2. how do we delete messages - i click the edit button which says edit/delete - but i don't see how to actually delete the repeat posts. Oh well, this new announcement is creating huge traffic on coldplaying appropriately enough.
  3. Yeah - I don't think he's hinting at Tomorrow - it sounds like he's just talking the start of rehearsals and the eventual longer journey they will embark on for the next 2 yrs - btw, i hope a lot of new songs make the album keeping it fresh - the more the better, well as long as it is what they want. But again, don't think Roadie is hinting at tomorrow, but who knows with they've been promoting this album. As for DLIBYH - knowing Chris and his pretty simple titles or at least his theme of love, heartbreak, etc. - it's likely something about breaking your heart at least, again based on Chris' history. Regardless, excited to hear at least 3 new songs on the album.
  4. It's getting closer, and great to finally hear from Roadie again. So it looks like Up in Flames makes the cut, and seems to be a spectacular song along the lines of Fix You perhaps. it's amazing Chris wrote the night before the Itunes festival... wow, could it be the Clocks of the album - Roadie's description is interesting - hypnotically simple (kind of like the sound of the studiofeed sound we got a while back). Can't wait to hear it, and it's a part of the setlist. I guess for all the haters of the seemingly "trite" titles are going to be disappointed that DLIBYH is making the cut - i don't care about titles - i care about the music and the lyrics personally - and from an earlier tweet - it seems Jonny gets all guitar hero on this one - "violently life affirming" - wow, that's an interesting description - and it seems to be another theme of the album which is pretty much every coldplay album - living life to the fullest. Cant' wait - one more week till Paradise drops - i hope it's massive - almost as close to Viva if not as good. Viva is a one of kind song that most bands can only dream of - I think Paradise will be close but we'll have to hear it soon enough.
  5. I will be going no matter what - went to the John Mayer concert 2 yrs ago at Ed Sullivan Theater, it was awesome, the venue is really small, not as big as looks like on tv. The closest we can get to an intimate venue for a band as big as this.
  6. I don't understand why they decide to release it early in some countries, esp. Japan. People will buy it, and rip the album and put it up for free - there goes your inital day album sales. They should just release it on the same day worldwide, and let the chips fall where they may - Can anyone in the know, tell me why labels do this? or does it not make a difference to release the albums at different dates in the world, i mean with the internet - this album will be downloaded illegally 5 d before it is released to the rest of the world.
  7. Hey Blank - it's interesting how you take the lyrics - I see them as a new beginning or a call to arms, and a perspective on how you can make anything positive out of something negative. In the context of the album and a possible concept/story (and talk of it ending the album) - I see either as the morning after the big climax of the story, and perhaps an epilogue to the revolution, or just beginning of a new chapter in that revolution. The lyrics, to me, represent that feeling of music, words, ideas being able to inspire you to take action regardless of the current situation (bleak perhaps in the story's world). Also, the lyrics reflects the need for truth or people to face reality and do something to make the world a better place, almost like a revolution. Looking at the history of music, and graffiti/street art as this album takes it's artistic cue from - a lot of messages were sent through these forms of media (alternative in some sense) often to revolt against the establishment and their propaganda (e.g. punk rock, graffiti, poems, Shostakovich's Symphonies, etc.). "I turn the music up, I got my records on From underneath the rubble sing a rebel song Don't want to see another generation drop I'd rather be a comma than a full stop" The character is expressing the need to take action so future generations can continue to experience life, music, etc. The current revolution is that pause. I really think this song is important to the whole album, and is such a beautiful, exhilirating song, that frankly surprises me to see how many people on these boards either hate it or think it's not quality. It is quality, and shows Coldplay continuing to excel. Also, just forgot to mention, the kids could also be a reference to the Car Kids or the Lost boys mentioned in other songs or theories. It also could represent the next generation of young people about to take over as leaders of the world.
  8. Blank - which lyrics in Teardrop are you talking about?
  9. They so deserved Album of the Year for Viva - just finished listening to the album - wow - what pure creativity and brilliance - Eno told them he wanted each song to sound different from the previous - and it surely accomplishes that - listen to that album again - they truly make albums that need to be heard fully through. Lit, Col, Lost, 42, LoJ/RoL, Yes/CSC, Viva, VH, SS, Death - Wow! each song truly is different from the previous and that's not even including A Spell A Rebel Yell plus Prospekt's March EP. I love robert plant and Led Zeppelin, but that was pure highway robbery and a downright shock - it looked like Coldplay's night - though they still won Song of the year, however they should have won Album of the Year.
  10. Footy - I agree - it's so out of character for him, and with the themes of youth, passion, and beating the "adults" so to speak, it totally fits in with the Peter Pan theme, as well as Charlie Brown, where it seems like the kids know what they are doing and the adults are some monolithic force that all sound the same or like gibberish.
  11. I've mentioned once before on other threads my theory that CB is about finally joining a movement that is against the status quo (in this case, one of conformity, or oppression of thought). It takes place sometime after hurts like heaven - the protagonist hears about the Car Kids or "The Lost Boys" who are involved in these subversive messages around the city/area he lives in. He's curious, scared, and inspired to meet them finally and see what they're all about They show him what the philosophy of the movement is about or their ideas and perhaps their "truth" - that's what sets him free (the old saying the truth will set you free) - At the same time, perhaps there's a love interest in the group that he falls for perhaps after having a break up with a previous one in Hurts like heaven (Oh, you use your heart as a weapon, and it hurts like heaven) - He's both scared and inspired with this new group, the movement, and the love interest - and the glowing in the dark represents the innocence of new love in perhaps a despotic, repressive and "dark" world.. or the youthfulness of hope and passion (I'll be bright red rose bursting the concrete) "Be the cartoon heart"... I really love the pre chorus - Light a fire, light a spark... Light a fire, and flame in my heart That feeling when something or someone inspires you and puts you in a metaphorical "high, or you just have a new found energy for life - perhaps the ideas of the lost boys coupled with this new person he falls for has given him new found hope despite All the madness in the world, or for that matter, occurs. Regardless - They'll run wild, and glow in the darkness of the oppressive world they are currently a part of. The outro piano, which is now confirmed a part of the song, is vintage Coldplay, and elevates the song even further. And, if true, is a homage to Charlie Brown and perhaps the Christmas special - harkening to the good ol' and much simpler days of the protagonist's youth, and like in the cartoon - the kids are the ones we understand, and the adults are unintelligble (perhaps like Major Minus), a parallel perhaps for this album's story. Regardless - I thought the song was good, but not 2nd single worthy, however after hearing the studio version with the new piano outro, I think the song will be a much better hit, and only makes me more excited to hear the other songs in this much anticipated album. Can't wait.
  12. It clearly is - there's no need to ask the oracle. They wouldn't release it if weren't - or sky 1 has a lawsuit on its hands.
  13. it's amazing how much hate that goes around - why can't you let people come up with things - it's part of the fun, art is up to the interpreter. this jocular need to bash others or act like no one else can come up with ideas or thoughts for the new album title is pure anathema. And I didn't say it was people making weird music with instruments - thanks for the intellectual honesty.
  14. wow - i was wrong about the piano part at the end - it sounded like an improv opening to Life is for living, but it definitely adds a nice a little piano outro which is vintage Coldplay - Sounds good, wasn't too high on Charlie Brown being the next single, but I think based on this recording it may do well as the 3rd or 4th single from the album. Definitely AC crowd for sure will like this. I really like the enoxification of these songs which i'm assuming is the beginning part of the song with child like voices or ? whatever you want to call it.
  15. Listening to MX on youtube - you totally hear the xylophones, but the melody in this vid is clearly some other song/melody - I hope the track Mylo Xyloto is a full track, and not 30s intro to Hurts like Heaven a la Life in Technicolor. The opening sounds amazing, ethereal and deserving of a longer track length. Can't wait to see the tracklisting.
  16. Well Phil did tweet those three songs to get released "let's get them out there" - One can presume - these are either b-sides or additional tracks to the Paradise single - kind of like they did for ETIAW - which I think Major Minus will make it to the album, and perhaps POC or Up in flames could be another album track - but then again this is overkill and we end up buying duplicate tracks although through itunes perhaps u only pay for the tracks you don't have yet. I can see that as a possibility and why they are releasing these single ep's through itunes only.
  17. I've seen other limited edition albums with a whole bunch of things added on - they easily come to $100 plus if not more - case in point - Maroon 5's last album, Lady Gaga's last album - were $130 - I'm thinking Coldplay's will be at least $100 easy if EMI is involved, and if they're comparing market forces for other bands - Coldplay is one of the biggest bands out there in the world today so expect the price to be up there accordingly esp with the cost of the pop up book being high already as a previous poster had mentioned. Can't wait for it, though, will be ordering it as soon as possible.
  18. Just was browsing youtube and stumbled upon this youtube video made about a year ago - very insider look at recording process of Coldplay's album - Well they are using xylophones for sure and perhaps part of the title having xylo in it (or not) - anyway, check out the piano behind chris, is that an early incarnation of the current one used for the festival - also remember them asking someone to build them a solar system or something space related to inspire them during the recording of the album. That and with the back to the future theme song points us into the future and perhaps outer space. I can't wait for the tracklist seriously, there could be some real surprises - here's the video, wonder what people think - it's cool seeing the actual recording process, is that jonny off camera playing a little fuzz guitar? I think Guy messes up a little on the xylo or just misses his mark, or perhaps that was intentional. Check it out: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dG1aCaSkad8&feature=related]Coldplay in the Beehive 2010-08-29 Guy & Chris playing xylophone - YouTube[/ame]
  19. James Cochran - Of his motivations to pursue a career in art he says: “After I worked for a year in 9-5 job I found that my soul was dying”. Instead he found his spraycan soul. Written in graffiti on a bridge in a park 'Do you ever get the feeling that you're missing the mark?' It's so cold, it's so cold It's so cold, it's so cold Written up in marker on a factory sign 'I struggle with the feeling that my life isn't mine' It's so cold, it's so cold It's so cold, it's so cold On every street, every car, every surface are names And at the streets arise, i'll be rather insane Don't let them take control No we won't let take control So on concrete canvas under cover of dark Concrete canvas, I'll go making my mark Armed with a spray can soul I'll be armed with a spray can soul Hurts like heaven is such a great song, and needs to be on there, and will be.
  20. AliCe (another street artist, wow that site is amazing, check it out) - I like her quote how art is an exchange of ideas, interpretation between the viewer and artist. Thus everyone can take away what it is they want to from their impressions of the art perhaps like my convoluted theory of what MYLO XYLOTO may mean, lol. Perhaps that's why Coldplay placed the title on the "canvas of pavement (or wall)" in this case, it freed them to place such a unique name/title on a wall rather that a metaphorical traditional gallery perhaps. "I think the artist primarily tries to express herself and doesn’t necessarily know what she wants to communicate. The meaning and the value comes from the exchange between the artist and the viewer. This exchange happens on the street in a more unexpected, surprising and freer way than in a gallery." - AliCe
  21. That site is awesome btw, check out the other street artists - clearly this group was the inspiration for Coldplay - they saw all of this artwork as they're walking around London and boom - idea for the new album and concept. Check out this quote by Roa, another street artist - "Graffiti is one of the most free art expressions of the world; you don’t do it for money nor for an institution, it’s free expression and it liberates yourself creatively from a lot of restrictions" This album will be freeing for Coldplay - some suggested like Kid A or OK computer was for Radiohead, MYLO XYLOTO may be a continuation of that evolution of their sound from the constraints of what they started out with back in 1998. But, I think Viva was definitely the beginning for them though on that path of liberation. More to ponder.
  22. btw, here's an explanation to xylo's work by xylo himself - and it totally fits into Coldplay's theme and new album - "I think [street Art] offers a very necessary arena of expression free from the constraints of commerce, and has an important role to play in providing a physical manifestation of dissent. This in turn then makes people feel slightly more liberated by it’s presence, perhaps looking on it as something essential to the human spirit which defies an increasingly sinister type of sanitization and control of public space." - Xylo Radical/dissenting ideas conveyed to the public/masses. "On a more personal level, I’ve found that making it can help lessen feelings of alienation and powerlessness that arise due to various negative aspects of society. Hopefully through the use of street art to highlight some of these issues people will become more aware of the need for change and thus form a critical mass of consciousness to overcome inertia." I just read another comment on another thread regarding the song MTM, Alien Nation, U.F.O, A Hopeful Transmission and how they all may be connected in perhaps an earlier concoction or concept of the album. Someone wrote alien nation as alienation perhaps as a play on words or accidentally which got me thinking. They were going for a theme of feeling like you're from another world. For xylo, perhaps he was feeling alienated in a world of consumerism and one that was becoming increasingly less private for individuals. Anyway, another theory to throw out there. Keep it going...
  23. Thanks Alice - it really was the community though bc as I was reading people's other theories or discovering that there was this UK street artist Mylo who may have inspired them to look at the history of graffiti, alternative media and how it conveyed subversive, or not mainstream toe the line kind of messages to the public. My theory could be way off base, but it's fun trying to figure it out regardless. I am fascinated with words and their origins a lot - was an excellent speller because i noticed in English that there were patterns to having certain letters together and usually came from a certain language in this case, Latin, Greek, German, French, etc. - So seeing this title and then realizing that they arranged it in a different way on the cover than the standard MYLO then XYLOTO really got me thinking and hence the monster known as my take on it was born. I'm glad Debs cleared up that there is meaning behind title, bc that would have been disappointing but I knew that couldn't be. As for the not being a foreign language part, perhaps then it is the name of the protagonist in the story. I say that, bc again, that street artist Mylo somehow has to tie into this whole concept, and in a way it will bring attention to his work to global masses (check out the site - http://xylo.me/ The top letters of the site is XYLO in his font - similar to the font that coldplay has been using. The connection is too coincidental. Regardless - I love seeing other people's ideas about it, keep them coming, and each day brings closer to the tracklisting and Coldplay's explanation about the title. Best,
  24. Xander - that might be it - they are combining two different genres on this album perhaps and could be a reference to that - I can't wait to see what they explain it as - but acoustic meets electronica is not a bad guess. Nice - keep it going, it's fun to read all the different thoughts out there.
