[18-Oct-2011] Coldplay @ Red Bull Sound Space, Los Angeles, USA
First, Chris is left handed? didn't remember that - awesome of them to sign autographs - it is really cool seeing what they do between breaks - it looked jonny's guitar was having problems right before they started playing Fix You - btw, is there a transcription of what Chris plays on the organ during the live shows - was trying to watch what he was doing - would love to play the song like he does to see how it sounds. Also, Guy on keyboards for ETIAW was cool. One last thing - ETIAW is a great song and will be a classic despite all the hate directed toward it. It's such a exhilarating song - ecstatic, euphoric - especially with the buildup and the lyrical melody. Beautiful - great interview and great set. I'm hitting Colbert Report tomorrow, hopefully we get at least 3 or 4 songs - they played the Daily Show before and think they played at least 3 songs.

Interesting answer to all the critics and negativity - I was posting new songs from the album, and my comments on them on my fb wall when a old high school friend started ripping on CP, being overrated - typical pseudo hipster type, though he's corporate - defended CP appropriately incl. using Duke Ellington's quote - if it sounds good, it must be good - anyway, CB sounds so good, after hearing the studio version, it is going to be a massive hit, would love to hear acoustic though sans accordion.

Loving this concert - great to finally see and hear what Jonny does with the guitar during Viva - it was hard to tell sometimes, great rendition of Viva Interesting to hear how they did start with acoustic album - CB, Paradise, and UATW (likely U.F.O as well) - I can't believe they were playing CB with an accordion at first, luckily Guy put his foot down, surprised Will was ok with it given his track record of rejecting ideas.

So far so good - great rendition of Yellow - amazing how that song was their key to spreading their music to other parts of the world - Will didn't really answer the question of Yellow still mean the same thing it did back when they all wrote it after Chris mentioned he doesn't even know what it means anymore. Glad other members are being asked question, would love to hear Jonny and Guy's take on the new album.

Mylo Xyloto 320kbps torrent (NO LINKS)
Same here - doh! how'd that happen with shortened tracks

When will we see the video?
Yeah, kind of disappointed with this elephant theme - liked the girl in the video concept better - I mean I love Mat Whitcross but elephant costumes - this is ridiculous for a grand song like Paradise. I mean ETIAW was great and totally fit in with the song, theme, and was innovative, but this... have low expectations again for a Viva la Vida level/type of song -

Just saw this - Car kids symbol
is the symbol for UATW rotated - is that a subtle reference to Car Kids being a part of UATW or .... hmmm - hope there is a prospekt's march like ep for this album - i'm sure the other tracks are pretty good despite not making the final album.
-
THIS IS NOT THE FINAL VERSION OF MYLO XYLOTO?
Frankly - I thought some of the mixing was off, and even some of the vocals were a little strange - MX sounds to subdued - not enough volume, and then HLH is too loud, and the mix is just terrible, i like the computer effects on the voices, but something is just off in the mix for HLH. The other song that stands out pretty poorly in terms of vocals is UATW - listen around 2:12 - when he says let it go (the emphasis on go sounds strange, off key). I don't know - will have to wait and see/hear the official cd release.

Hey I'm interested in camping out - have done it twice before for other concerts there last year, it was a lot of fun, bc you're hanging with die hard fans, plus some people bring their instruments or radios and play the music. I can arrive after 11p since i'm working till then, let me know - PM me, I would like to be a part of this bc this album is amazing and i'm an old school coldplay fan from the get go - it's great to see how far they've come. I actually skipped out work for an hour last time they were there in 2008, totally worth it. definitely camping out for this one - can bring supplies let me know.

Mylo Xyloto live Setlist
Frankly i wish they would do a concert for the fans with the entire new album plus other hits/or fan requested songs - that would be amazing.

Princess Of China High Quality (OF COURSE IT'S NOT A DOWNLOAD, ITS YOUTUBE))
Amazing album and POC has definitely made a believer out of me - sounds amazing - good collaboration, and track. Want the instrumental so bad.

DLIBYH
Yup - i'm glad i'm not the only to hear it - it sounds like Glass of Water meets Thing You Don't Understand with a little sprinkle of Low (those xylophones) - Can't get that association out of my head, and it's killing the song for me - not impressed overall with the first 3 mins of the song, although it is energetic and urgent. The weakest track for me on the album bc of the closeness of it to these other songs - love A hopeful transmission before it though, wish that could be longer.
-
Biggest Disappointment and Surprise of Mylo Xyloto
u.f.o is not an interlude - it's an actual song with words and longer length. POC is really good, wasn't a fan when i heard it at rock am ring, but man it's going to be huge. Not loving the first 3 mins of DLIBYH, reminds me too much of x & y era (which I loved) but just have gotten into it yet. I'm sure it will though.

Biggest Disappointment and Surprise of Mylo Xyloto
Surprises: the short interludes are great and really segue well into their songs. POC is really good despite the poor live recorded version we/ve been working off of, love the duet, do agree there should more Chris on it though, feels like a Rhianna and coldplay as a backing band. CB is amazing recorded - going to be a massive hit, that piano outro is so beautiful (thought it was too simple from the live version, but man great recorded. UATW is even better recorded (one of my favorites). U.F.O - what a great song, so beautiful, definitely a little Wedding bells-esque at the beginning. UIF - absolutely love it, when i wasn't impressed with the live one we heard, love the synth bass drum or whatever that is with strings, chris' falsetto - man I understand what will is talking about now. UpWith Birds - what a great ending, especially from 1:35 on, synth birds? love it. AHT is so beautiful - wish it were longer, as well MX. Dissapointments: Moving to Mars should have been on the album. the mix on both MX and HLH is off in my initial listen of HLH - love the robotic effects of his voice, but feel like the mix was just poorly done on it, and it's too loud on certain instruments in HLH whereas it is subdued on MX. MX should be a full song - god, what a sublime melody. Not won over by DLIBYH yet - feel like it's a love child of X&Y's Things you don't understand with some xylos from Low married to Glass of Water. Kind of avg for me so far, but i'm sure it will grow like some of Coldplay's songs have done to me in the past, love it from 3:00 on though.

First Impressions of Mylo Xyloto (and vote in the 1-10 sliding scale poll!)
Love it!!! full review to come - but man - it really is an amazing album, they truly are a blessing and a gift from nature/god/etc. - viva la Coldplay! Love MX/HLH (like it live though more than studio at present, mix off for some reason), Paradise, CB (wow!!), UATW (so glorious/grand), MMIX into ETIAW (what beauty), MM, UFO (parachutes homage), POC (amazing!), UIF (one of my new favorites, didn't like initially), AHT (beautiful interlude), i'll be honest DLIBY hasn't caught me fully yet (feel like it's x&y esque and trying to be a bit like the 2nd half of Death and all his friends for some reason), UATB (interesting, still digesting it, but like it) But overall - amazing album, love the evolution of coldplay.

Mylo Xyloto are.... people (Soylent Green ref)
Well it seems like Mylo and Xyloto are the two main characters in the new album - although someone mentioned a nytimes interview where Chris mentions that xyloto came from their conversation about where music came from - he ?jokingly said they come from between fingers/toes - and jumped to musical digits - "xylo toes" - and mylo just bc they liked the name - don't know how reliable this particular interview is - but man after all the speculation - i like their initial offering of it can mean whatever you want it to mean and how it became a newly created word/entity associated with their music much akin to Google, Yahoo, Iphone, etc. I don't mind it being the character's names either - but really liked the concept of it being the name of the revolutionary underground movement (i.e. the freedom of expression of ideas/sounds/etc.) vs Mainstream media/propaganda/Big Brother (Major Minus Media). What do people think? regardless can't wait to hear it - is there any way to get the album in FLAC, btw, or lossless audio?

The Album is 45 min Long - Says Chris on Hamish and Andy's Gap Year
Didn't care for Reign of Love... that's one of the most underrated Coldplay songs out there - I called it the Swallowed in the Sea of the album. Even Chinese Sleep Chant was decent and homage to a lot of the shoegazing bands they loved growing as teenagers in the late 80s and early 90s - it's another underrated song These instrumental tracks may be good but it's like a tease of the nice vocal melody they could add to the song - I like their full tracks so much, i guess it's not easy to add lyrics and a nice vocal melody (especially with all the critics on these boards).

Is This the Most Hate?
Hey all - saw Coldplay at Letterman - amazing - have been a fan since I saw them back in 2000 - For You is one of my favorites by them - so I love old coldplay and am glad they are going forward with what they want to do - The new singles are great and love the lush instrumentation on them. Got a chance to meet and speak with Phil Harvey after the show, so gracious and down to earth. Told him to tell the guys - don't listen to the hate, especially from coldplaying.com - and he sighed, and told me some of the people on coldplaying.com are really harsh and bit too much. I told him to tell them to keep going and that the new songs are amazing, and don't worry about 'true' fans - you'll never please everybody. He agreed and really thanked me for saying that and that it means a lot, and that he will definitely let the boys know as they probably do feel like they're going into new territory (Will's nerves) and will lose people. But honestly for them, it's new and keeps them wanting to create - look at R.E.M. - after 30 yrs they had no where to go, so they called it a day. I don't want Coldplay to ever feel like that - I want them to do what they want to - they've made so much great music, they haven't gone all Radiohead on us (and I love Radiohead, the new stuff is ok, but iron lung just came on my ipod randomly yesterday night, as I was walking back from work, wow what an amazing song) These new songs and new direction is what they want to do and they're still making great songs that are not acid jazz or whatever obscure genre. As for the lyrics - hey it's not easy, plus for a concept album - you really need to listen to the whole album to understand what the context of both the song and the lyrics really mean. It's a story/opera/musical of sorts. Paradise is the hopes and expectations of the girl in the story - it's not what she expected. I love Death and all his friends - but lyrically - there's not much quantity but it's simple and effective, i think paradise is along the same lines. ETIAW lyrically is about having hope and trying to see things in a positive light despite the Major Minus world they live (maybe that's why MM is titled that, the opposing force to the positivity that the characters r trying to create). Music and art are liberating, and can be used as a positive revolutionary force - the main protagonist has hope and is inspired by his new love and this new movement of spraycan soul he is a part of - it gives him life and passion to make sure that people can overcome whatever's holding them down. That's what i take from these two songs w/in the context of the album. I think they're brilliant as well as the other songs. This album may be another one of their masterpieces (viva was amazing for sure) and another great addition to their next trilogy (perhaps their Empire Strikes Back (original) not the 5th version/edited crap of course) Viva la Coldplay!

Rank Coldplay's New MX Songs.
I think they are all so good in their own way 1. Paradise, HLH, MM, ETIAW, UATW, CB, MTM, MX (wish it were a full song), I got to hear the instrumental track of PoC at the Letterman show - it sounds amazing, it's going to be huge at least for the album, if not as a single esp w/ Rhianna (I could see how her voice would work for it) - so far PoC is up there as well. Heard HLH and CB instrumental tracks - awesome, HLH is so good - So cold, so cold, so cold... No we won't let them take control, we won't let them take control. CB will be a massive "pop" hit, just based on the crowd's (lot of execs, non coldplay fans) response - the quotes are all the "true" fans that think they went too pop, but yet they validate CB over ETIAW and Paradise - CB is as pop as ETIAW and Paradise (which i think is much more unique in its instrumentation than CB except for that opening synth voices part clearly added by Eno).
-
Ive Scrubbed ETIAW and Parasite
Whatever - those tracks are not that bad compared to even the "good" music out there - give me a break - Phil Harvey said it best, some of the folks on coldplaying.com are too much/ too rough - but to each their own - thx for playing.
-
The Album is 45 min Long - Says Chris on Hamish and Andy's Gap Year
I like their instrumentals, but think they really could have developed those into fuller songs with lyrics - I really hope Mylo Xyloto will be like LiT and actually have lyrics down the road - it's such a beautiful, shimmering opener - but reading the latest interviews - it's going to be wordless bc Mylo Xyloto can mean anything to anyone, and what better way than just sounds, and no words :( It sounds so epic, i wish it were 4min at least - And I don't understand worrying about length of album - The beatles didn't care - they just made music, these guys have a gift for making new music but still accessible and beautiful - Eno told them be fearless and don't worry about what others (ie critics) say (X & Y was and is still a great album, very underrated). I hope these instrumentals are not like Poppy Fields (which I really like, but wish it were longer).

Hype Williams (Viva la Vida) directing Paradise video // feat. Cintia Dicker (full details in first
THe Itunes Viva la Vida Video is by far much better than the official one - I wish they made a full song version of it - it's just more visually appealing, and you really see jonny enjoying himself, and that space like effects on it really enhance the video Much prefer the Anton Corbjin video, but that was good, but not great. Love the ETIAW video - Mat Whitcross is great - he has a great vision, and executes it well - really like LiJ video. And I liked how they did LiTii vid - the puppets were funny for sure. I hope Hype doesn't screw this one up again - paradise is a massive song, and deserves a great video. So far etiaw was very good, so hopefully it continues....

[20-Sept-2011] Live On Letterman: Ed Sullivan Theater, New York City
Hey guys - I made it into the show and it was absolutely amazing - I'll write a full review w/ anecdotes, and what not - i recorded the full uncut version of UATW which has to be one of the finest moments in Coldplay history - and a moment I will always treasure, btw met Phil Harvey after the show, so gracious, and I thanked him for helping to create one of the best bands in the world - he laughed at the helping to create part. btw, they were playing the studio tracks from Mylo Xyloto before they came on - and I'm telling you Princess of China sounds amazing - wasn't a fan from the version from youtube, but wow - wasn't sure about Rhianna on it, but I can see how it may work, and may be massive. will post more, and need to figure out how to get video off my phone. Plus took some high resolution photos of the piano. man... what can i say this album is going to be amazing - also heard the studio version of CB (that will be a major hit). alright more to come.
