  1. Jonny's riffs on Violet Hill is fantastic, the bluesy chords and heaviness of the guitar work just shows that these guys can do any genre at will.
  2. love this yellow intro, my god, gorgeous, ethereal, what an amazing song, and to think he was just fooling around on the guitar while looking at the stars
  3. Love Scientist - but wish they could change it up a just little bit like they did for Yellow on this tour.
  4. Jonny added a bit of Edge like guitar effects on Lovers in Japan, nice homage - what an underrated guitarist, his riffs and nuances are some of the best in the biz. . To hear chris' original demo and what this song became thanks to the others make u understand what they mean by chemistry between all 4.
  5. MX/Hurts like heaven is one of the best openings for a band over - I wish we will get a chance to hear a full MX someday even if only instrumental. Btw, Chris got the "Is there anybody out there?" from Bruce Springsteen. Now on to a timeless classic - In My Place - the drumming and the guitar riffs are so sick, love these guys
  6. 20 songs - come on CP - u have people paying hundreds of dollars for your concerts and the best you can do after 10 yrs in the biz is 20 songs - you have so many songs you could play at least 3 more - Frankly - A hopeful transmission should lead into DLIBYH, then go into UWTB - it'd be a great finish to the main set, then play your VLV, FIX YOU, and Every Teardrop. Also, UATW should include the organ/electric guitar intro, as well the organ bridge, those aspects of the song really elevate it to another hair raising/euphoric level. One more thing - POC needs to be full on synth/studio version (not the acoustic one which was good for the Grammy's but I'm paying to hear and see you guys play the studio version which is a massive song with a great driving bass and drumbeat). If anything acoustic, U.F.O should be definitely played or incorporated somehow into the setlist, in fact Mylo Xyloto is one of their most complete albums they've ever made, and would be a shame for them not to play most if not all of its songs - they actually should do a concert just for the album in its entirety and sequence with accompanying visuals, props, fx - it'd be one huge rebellious rave party with quiet moments of reflection.
  7. i like it - different, almost like a Killers remix version w/ the synths
  8. Samuel - i hear ya - it does fit in nicely as a short intro to HLH - but man, I love the chords, and the atmosphere they create with it, i just feel even if it's just a 2 min one - it's good enough for me - and yeah ufo, aht, mx also have similar chord progressions, so ufo could have definitely been mx, but i'm hoping for an mx ii nonetheless - it would be special for sure. and a possible single a la LiT ii, and may get its own video if they do decide to release another ep.
  9. what? i wanted mylo xyloto to be a longer song - i just love it, and it ends too quickly - please let there be a MX ii - also would love to hear Car Kids finally despite the naysayers saying it didn't exist (thanks naysayers) Rex has been seen on the piano, 100k, aiko, lela are all new to me - sounds good, we need an ep next year, i'm enjoying this album's era for sure. Thanks CP
  10. MX/HLH CB UFO love that finger picking also UWTB, DLIBYH, MMIX/ETIAW, POC - i mean i love the whole album - i can listen all the way through w/o skipping - they did an amazing job with it and the tracklisting.
  11. how can u watch the concert if you're not in the UK - I want to see/hear the UFO reference in MX - UFO is one of my favorite songs - almost mastered it on the guitar - coldplay is great both big and small
  12. approximately infinite - totally agree- one of the best concerts i went to was for the Killers at MSG for the Sam's town tour - they had GA pit in the front, and it was amazing, the crowd was so into it, and Brandon Flowers still remember that concert, and is always looking to recreate that atmosphere. With this album (frankly I want them to play the full album straight through, preceded by their hits or whatever) - it would be absolutely amazing having real fans (who don't need a seat, and are willing to camp out to be in front) be up by them, and giving the energy their songs give to us back to them. I mean can you imagine the last 3 songs of MX - I hope they read this, I know Phil Harvey does (he told me when I met him, great guy, and supposedly the guys do take to heart criticisms of both the new direction of the music and the concert setup). But, seriously, they need GA at their US shows, get the suits and the vips out of there, and put them in the club box so they can eat/drink/etc. and maybe listen to Coldplay... Phil - you gotta get ga for the next US leg of the tour.
  13. Just have been trying to get AMEX presale tix for two separate show - it's hard to get 2 seats together in a decent section (it's usually in the boons, or corner in the back) - not good tickets available for presale from what i've seen. Plus 130 dollars per ticket is kind of steep especially since they barely play an hour and half, and they barely change up their set (understood about the light show/fx/etc.) but they need to play longer then for that kind of change. And frankly, i love the wrist band idea, but that can't be adding to the price hopefully. Going to see the vip pkg (which likely will be exorbitant, and don't really need to be front row or whatever, unless it was GA) Don't know why coldplay doesn't do ga for its shows - people would be having a great time upfront in the pit. Anyway, long time Coldplay fan, but will have to wait and see in the general if better tix become available and even then, will probably wait to see how long their sets are going to be. 2 hrs minimum at this stage (5 LPs, one of the biggest bands in the world) - come on Chris, give the fans their money's worth esp in this down economy.
  14. What are the VIP packages? Just have been trying to get tix for two shows, but 2 tix together in a good section are hard to come by, plus the 130 dollars per ticket charge is steep for a band that barely plays an hour and half, for that price I want at least 2 hrs. Give me a break Coldplay, unless they add to their setlist (which they easily can) then these prices are getting out of hand. I love Coldplay, but not for these kind of prices, and their history of short sets and lack of changing up the set. PS and don't tell the wrist band is figured into the price - they really need some sort of high end exclusive fan club for people who really want the good seats or something (of course excluding scalpers somehow - maybe constant trivia, or the person on the name of the credit card purchasing has to go into the concert)
  15. No - Gwyneth is close family friends w/ Maya Rudolph (who looks nothing like Beyonce) plus could you imagine Jay-Z and Gwyneth being close family friends, it's like a different strokes episode. Anyway, great interview, and man - hits the nail on the head - had a elementary school friend of mine post on my FB wall ripping coldplay unfairly, and not even listening to the album at all - exposed him for the dick he was, and basically music is personal, and if you don't like them, f the f off. and chris reiterates that point. Also, a girl i used to date was such a music snob, into indie rock, anything mainstream was like crap, but she texted this past summer saying don't tell anyone but I really like Katy Perry's new album, and now she's like you like what you like, and shouldn't discriminate solely bc it's mainstream or "pop". As Duke Ellington said - if it sounds good, then it must be good. Perfect quote, and kudos to a great interview. Another female friend of mine saw Chris and Jonny interview on Ellen, and didn't realize how down to earth and funny they were. She was impressed. It's great to see other people how humble, affable, and talented these guys really are. We really are blessed to have them. I was at the colbert report taping, and I saw Chris before the show, He signed my Fierce Panda single of Brothers and Sisters - He was impressed, and he said "that's so old school, man, haven't seen this in a long time, where'd you get this?" Anyway, told him to not try be Radiohead or whatever, be yourself, and keep pushing your sound and keep evolving, forget the critics, do what you like, and he appreciated that and said we will (so hopefully that means it's not the last album ; ) I just listened to Radiohead's Kid A and man it's an amazing album, no doubt, I really like it.. but it is funny, and interesting to hear why Coldplay may never go down that direction, Chris loves sing alongs, and most of Kid A - there is no sing along for sure. Though, I would really like to see what they produce from a Kid A type of album from them but of course on their own terms. Would love to figure out what part of HLH was inspired from the Hungarian chant actually (sorry from the student UAE interview).
  16. Great interview - it'll be interesting to see where they go next - Also, I'm really getting fed up with Guy, if the band were ever to break up, god forbid - I can see him being the reason, or the guy leaving. Talk is a great song - love Jonny's guitar solo (kind of seem it inspired the 42 middle bit). But getting back to Guy - he always looks depressed, doesn't really put much effort into singing - he's definitely the sourpuss of the band - thank god for jonny and chris, and will of course (who will probably never leave the band, unless it's for his kids, i mean he's lucky to be in the band which happened by luck). Anyway, Guy needs to step up, and stop being such a downer (I give him credit for saying no to Charlie Brown on accordion but man - they need to play Talk again, love that song.)
  17. Coldplay credits Brian May for a sample on this song - i listened to brian may's song trying to figure out what part they sampled, Anybody have an idea - Is it the synth sighs part or ... - Great song regardless, love the sighs "Might have to go, where they don't know my name"
  18. Man - wasn't an initial fan of the song based on it sounding like an amalgam of older songs but it perfect in that last trio of songs for the album and seals Mylo Xyloto as being one of their many masterpieces (more to come, i'm sure) As far as lyrics - really love how Chris incorporates simple influences on him no matter the source (Kung Fu Panda 2, it's funny many people are impressed or laugh how much I remember from movies and incorporate or reference in my daily life, much like Chris or anybody with ADD and a good memory does) Anyway, my interpretation of the lyrics is that song is less about heartbreak, and more about pushing on and fighting the good fight regardless of what's happened in the past. AHT preceding it is brilliant especially with the same theme of MX - it's like their song/theme/signal or at least the movement's theme (kind of like Close Encounters Theme)- the way it starts off serene/blissful then boom right into the wide cinescape of the song - like he's running into an open field with new found hope and passion restored. "And if I lost the map, If I lost it all" - the passion/love/hope has always been there - it will never go away (the MX theme is like the song Come What May in Moulin Rouge is for the two main characters) "Or if I fell into a trap, Then she'd call" - it's like his lifeline - the hopeful transmission/theme/memories "When you're tired of racing, And you find you never left the start" - he feels futile in his efforts like he's going nowhere, but she/theme is telling him perhaps it/she's always been there from the start (maybe subtle reference to The Scientist) or the love/passion never goes away, no matter what "Come on baby - Don't let it break your heart" - Simple enough, no worries, be happy, fight on. It continues with the theme of giving it your all/never giving up despite the heartache/scars/bruises - "though we heavily bled, still on we crawl" "Try to catch a cannonball" (Thanks Po from Kung Fu Panda 2, and perhaps Apple and Moses since he probably had to take them to see it) "And a slowly burning tide is flowing through my veins" - He's reinvigorated with a fire to fight back despite the odds/or despite being brokenhearted "From my shipwreck, I heard a call" - from his disaster/his lowest point - she or their song calls back to him "When you're tired of aiming your arrows, Still you never hit the mark Even in your rains and shadows Still we never gonna part" Pretty self explanatory - Though he feels helpless and his efforts futile, they will always have what they had, and the movement will win against all odds. Come on baby - don't let it break your heart - really love the last minute of the song, and the heartbeat sound at the end - and then the transition into the equally magnificient and uplifting Up With The Birds. God I would love to see close their concerts - it would be such a rush - honestly if they need to close with ETIAW (perhaps as a reprise (like another call to arms), or a final song they could ) - just UWTB into MMIX into ETIAW. anyway, sorry for the long post - great song, really loving it, and man, Coldplay just keep delivering after all these years - I think this is as good as Viva (and I love Viva, I think it's one of their masterpieces too - actually love how each song is musically different in it instrumentation in Viva, but like the storyline/concept of MX). Cheers.
  19. Later in the career is great, but they can still do it for this tour era - it's a concept album, it has a story - Rush of Blood to the head doesn't really have a story to it, it's a bunch of songs about existential/love/break up songs - Mylo Xyloto - has within its lyrics actual storylines (HLH, Paradise, CB, UATW, ETIAW, MM, UFO/POC/UIF/DLIBYH/UWTB as well more to the romance part that is) This concert could be done in the next two years, near the end of their touring for the fans or limited engagements, it would be great to listen to it the way it was intended especially live and with props/effects/etc geared to their songs. It would be massive.
  20. Yeah - it's not unheard of - i see a lot of bands do that - They play their complete albums on successive nights, I think My Morning Jacket may have done that last year. I hope Coldplay are not above doing something like that - the album is great, and they're very much about the album being heard in its entirety and in succession (e.g. not allowing streaming sites to have the album) - Corkus - it's not about longer setlists - it's about the continuity of the songs - and i did say after they do their proper international tour with their set in stone setlists - it could be near the end of the tour - This album deserves to be heard in its original conception - it's a wild ride, and I would love to see it live the way they intended, rather than jukebox style. I really wish they could be more free form in their setlist, and their playing - it's like they're just a well-oiled machine - it's too slick. Love the older concerts where they seemingly improvised or Jonny did a guitar slide/wall of sound. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibilities - it would sell for sure, and if they like the album enough to do it, then I don't see why they can't after the majority of the tour.
  21. I love the electronic beat - it really makes the song - or else it would be just some parachutes left over - the new album incorporates electronic influences - I really am glad it's different than the one from ACL - and am glad they're using electronic drums for it live - it's quite boring for the first 3 minutes with regular drums, but w/ that electronic beat coupled w/ Chris' falsetto/plaintive voice and simple piano - it really elevates the song.
  22. I think it could either work as an epilogue after UWTB or... the start of a new chapter in the story, anda new album - lol, that would be a trip if they ever thought of doing that.
  23. absolute gorgeous - agree with the mixing too, what happened? on the live version, that part really elevated the song (when Will comes in) - am glad someone else in the band has a decent voice or at least is confident enough to sing with Chris. I feel like Jonny tries, whereas Guy just punts it even though he could probably sing, but doesn't want to bother.
  24. Hey - listened to the earlier Norwich show which sounded amazing - thx Dan and Rik - well one of the things that came up was the setlist and how they don't change it up often secondary to set design, lighting, etc. It got me thinking about hearing the complete Mylo Xyloto. Well I attended a Weezer concert last year where they played the entire Blue Album after playing a hit from each successive album they've released - it was amazing hearing the whole album played in succession even though it may have not been a concept album initially. Mylo Xyloto is a great album with an underlying story - it would be really great to hear it played completely live much like the Wall or other concept albums through out history. Just finished listening to it for an unknownth time, and it really has such varied soundscapes w/ different emotions. It would be amazing to have it offered after a year of touring, perhaps they could do it for the coldplaying community or have limited engagements of fans of the album with other hits played before it to flesh out the concert, much like Weezer did. Hopefully Phil or whoever else involved with the band read this, and really think about it, It would be amazing - Can you imagine the transition from AHT to DLIBYH to UWTB especially with diehard fans? - it would be mind-blowing. They could even have appropriate props/graphics/video (e.g. running man, perhaps expand on that idea) - it could use dark lights all around the arena (much like what they do in ETIAW video) - man, the ideas are limitless. It would be massive. Anyway, let's start a petition, and see how much interest there is - from all levels of fandom - I'm sure we can come up with some great ideas for the band to use to really make it an experience - even make a dvd and cd out of it (win-win for everyone involved). Hopefully, Phil reads this and gets the boys to start thinking about it. And if it's limited concerts, maybe get Rhianna to come along (that might be less feasible though). About to listen to the album again - and MX needs a brother song that expands that idea into a full length song - that chord progression and melody is like heaven.
  25. i think light a fire up from a spark is probably right, it makes sense and flows well. Light a fire, up from a spark
